i talked to robert and he said that karupin will probably make it to this

I'll be bringing my wii as well, along with a recording device
Double yes. Somebody can't let go of the past. =[

I am getting pretty excited for this. I kinda like how there are more people who can possibly win this tournament. I mean it's not just between dan and clouderz, because who is to say dan knows how to face a good rob? Or who is to say that I can't beat clouderz and dan can? Same goes for jack. I feel like 4 of us have a really good shot at winning, yet I don't necessarily think that us 4 will completely make up the top 4. Results are gonna be kool.

SIDE BETS ANYONE!?!!
Agreed completely. I can't wait to see how this pans out. I'm not going to make any side-bets though, simply because it wouldn't be right for me to put money on a bracket I will be in charge of making. :x I can't wait to see how the high level players from each province do against each other; the fight for the 7th-5th place spots is going to be really tight IMO, as well as the fight for the top 4. Hell, I'm even looking forward to the MK dittos that will come from this. :x

I want to abuse recording set-ups for this. We have a couple recording set-ups (i.e. Dazzle, no infinite replay stuff); Asa has one, and I believe HNG (or was it somebody else?) said he had one as well. Grimice has one, but he told me he can't make it. I would love to have a few Wiis hacked with Infinite replay and little to nothing else, so we can save matches without forcing people to put up with textures or anything in tournament. Asa is great for uploading stuff quickly (no pressure, just stating facts XD), so we'd hopefully be able to get a lot of videos uploaded. Once the bracket thins down enough, I will make sure tournament sets only happen if they are being recorded.

question:

do you find my hacks to be too distracting? my alterations are minimal

i'll bring my hacked wii and cheesze can bring his(i'll make sure he takes off anything distracting)

that gives us 3 hacked wiis at least and two recording devices (me and HNG)

I personally don't, but some people do, and if a player doesn't like the textures on the Wii they are playing on, they have the right to get the hacks turned off before the set begins. This obviously impairs the ability to save those matches on that Wii, which is something I want to avoid.

I personally don't like the hacks on your wii Asa. And i have a wii with just recording hacks.

Good news everyone! I've acquired 3 more tvs. So i think i have 11 now lol. That will help a lot i think for pools. I was thinking since we have so many people, We could make pools mini brackets instead. They did something similar to this at tourney play. Let me know if you guys like this or not.

We need a lot of wiis! So if you can bring one i would super appreciate it!

Jake is definitely dropping Yoshi
Ok, several things:

As far as Island attendance goes:

-CONFIRMED: me, Max, and Grape
-UNCONFIRMED: Tero
-NOT ATTENDING: Ewic, Karupin, and 42 (you guys haven't played 42 yet).

As far as texture hacks go, if it's friendlies, I don't mind playing with texture hacks. However, in tournaments, I don't want any texture hacks at all. Also, depending on the stage, no music hacks either (I know the stage from the music... i.e. when it transforms or when certain hazards will appear). Both will distract me in some way.

Also, I like the "four smaller brackets" idea. It will seed all the players up to the winner's semis. Ties won't matter in this case, as tiews will result in people entering in the same rank anyways.

like 8 person pools turned into 8 person tournaments? Wouldn't there be a lot of ties?
How would there be ties?

Edit. Oh i get it. Because of 2 5ths, 7ths, ect. Well that will be ok, since the top 3 or 4 are what really matter for seeding i suppose. I just think it will be a good way to get this done quicker and still give a lot of matches to people.

To remove ties, the two 5ths can play against each other, while the two 7ths can play against each other as well. That way, we would have no ties.
Yeah but that's so time consuming. The whole point of the mini bracket thing was to make it go faster was it not? Regular pools is the best way, that's why every tournament uses this method, no mini brackets.

Seeding only top 4, do you mean cutting off everyone else in the pool? Like, that seems a bit extreme, are you aiming for a 16 man bracket for something?

No cutoffs for such small numbers. We're no regional/national. lol

If I can make it for this I'm gonna bring my Wii. It will have hacks on it, both of the texture and music variety.

I will be changing some things to ensure that some aren't distracting/mind-boggling though.

If you do the math, replacing 8 pools of 5 players each with 5 brackets of 8 players each (assuming 40 players, which is probably the high end of what attendance is looking like right now) won't even save a significant amount of time. If we have 11 setups, we can group pairs of pools together and give 3 of the 4 pairs 3 TVs each to do the 20 sets needed between the two pools. This will complete those 6 pools in 7 "rounds", with the last two pools taking 10 rounds, though we can divide some of those remaining matches among the leftover TVs after the other pools finish with them. With 5 8-man double elimination brackets, each bracket would get 2 TVs, except for one, which would get 3. An 8-man double elimination bracket involves playing 14-15 sets, depending on whether or not Grand Finals goes to 2 sets, but because of the way brackets are structured, this would take 8-9 rounds with 2 TVs. This also means extra TVs can't be used to speed up progress as they become available, because by the time there are extra TVs ready to be used, each bracket would likely be on GFs, WFs, or LFs, none of which can be played at the same time. So realistically, the round robin pools and the qualifier brackets would actually take around the same amount of time from start to finish.

This would likely result in a messier final bracket as well. Not only because 5th/6th and 7th/8th seeds would be indistinguishable (not a huge deal, but it does make a bit of a difference), but also because it wouldn't take as much for a player to get a lower seed than they deserve in a bracket qualifier. The bracket requires more work from the TOs as well; not only do we have to divide the players into even groups, but we also have to seed the brackets relatively well to avoid getting strange results; something we don't have to worry about with pools. The brackets also give the lower-level players much fewer matches than pools would, since they would play a minimum of 2 other people instead of 4.

There are a lot of things that could go wrong with qualifier brackets that are known to be non-issues with pools, and we wouldn't even really get much of a benefit from using brackets instead of pools. I'd personally rather stick with a tried and true method than try an unusual method that could simply cause a lot of unwanted problems.

Well just because even by bus/skytrain it is kind of far from Burnaby and I don't know if I'm going to be super busy with school or not.

That's my 'if' reason. :p
waitwaitwaitwait

did you just say it's kind of far from burnaby? you are probably one of the closest people to the venue if you live in burnaby dude.

btw clouderz I'm not planning on losing to anybody but you in this tourney, so if you end up losing to one of the albertans you better do it in a way that doesn't drag me down with you

I was just fired. Would rather not talk about it (doubt anyone cares), but consider me 100% confirmed for this. I'll see you all there. I'm still uncertain on if I'll team with HNG or not but that'd be mean of me to decline right when I said I would if I went.

I'm not settling for anything less than the top 3 for Singles this tournament. Clouderz, Bundtcake, Jake, Breeze, everyone, wish you guys the best of luck when or if I get to play any of you.

K i Fixed my wii, there is 100% less freezing. so it wont freeze at all 0.0

Its set up so that ALL original textures, i.e green link, pink kirby, green yoshi are all the same. So if you don;t want to use a crazy hack just pick default character.

I never got around to changing the csp for anything else, so its pretty much a mystery what its going to be.

I have no stage textures as of yet, but i'll probably get some. And no music hacks, which i probably won't get.

some textures include

basicly all the crazy vertex hacks that look nothing like the original character =] So I think itll be best used as a practice wii. or you can simply remove the sd card to play normally.

I also have a dazzl and a lappy, and all the required cords/splitters.... but have no idea how to really work it.
