The Melee polls were taken after Melee was released. Things change.
Then how do we know Chocobo is still popular...The exact same situation can be said for an anti-Chocobo arguement. As far as I am concerned, the Melee polls will have very little affect on SSB4 (Unfortuantly for the Balloon Fighter >.>)

@Neo: Optimism and whatnot.

The thing about Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest is, they make up two of the four biggest franchises in Japan (the other two being Mario and Pokemon). Square-Enix to them is a really REALLY big deal. Any characters they have shouldn't be ignored.

On another similar note, Sakurai has mentioned that Mega Man has a lot of demand from the West. Most of us consider him the most likely third-party character, but I wouldn't be shocked to hear that Chocobo holds that honor in Japan.

@Wizzerd: Was that Chocobo & Slime idea mine or did you have that one for a while?

Is Dragon Ques bigger than FF, just out of curiosity? (trying to gaugue just how likely it will be)

japan likes things that are cute thats why we got jigglypuff
That's very over generalized

DQ and FF are pretty much on par with each other in Japan. FF has the edge in being considerably more popular worldwide.
DQ is on on par with Final Fantasy in Japan? Heck no. There is a Japanese law that Dragon Quest games can't be released on weekdays because too many people would skip work/ school to get it. That's how popular it is.

That was your idea, man. It might be a good way to get both in since they're the two best options for a Square Enix character (in my opinion). Did they ever actually team up in a game though? I never played their games (I'm considering ordering the Rocket Slime DS game though).

From an international standpoint, it's clearly Final Fantasy. However, I don't know if that's the case in Japan, but DQ is notable for having a law stating that a new DQ game cannot be released on a weekday so people won't skip work/school to play it. Also, Dragon Quest basically started the RPG genre for videogames. At the same time, Final Fantasy popularized the genre and gave the genre mainstream presence with Final Fantasy VII.

Personally, I'd pick a Final Fantasy character with that character being one of the following: Cecil, Terra, Cloud, Lightning, Black Mage, Warrior of Light, or the Chocobo.

I understand that Cloud and Lightning have not appeared on a Nintendo console yet, but I think an exception may be made for Cloud at the very least.

I don't understand how people ACTUALLY believe that a FF character can make it into SSB...
I love FF as much as the next guy, but they DON'T belong, snake at least works, even if he doesnt "fit".

FF has dissidia, you want FF in a fighting game go play that.
Personally I'm against all 3rd parties other than the ones that made many appearances on Nintendo consoles, ie mega man, bomberman, and Sonic is okay... This is a Nintendo fighting game.

Thank you.

Oh, sweet. Yeah, I always figured it'd be better to have them both since it's better than either one of them by themselves (both functionally and thematically). Pretty sure the closest thing to a real team-up was the Itadaki Street games, but that's probably enough. Square-Enix is the kind of company to use an idea like that anyway.

@Kuma: The "DQ games sold on weekends" thing isn't an actual law, just a really good idea SE sticks to.

@Wizzerd

Please take down the link to the "Brawl Polls". It's misinformation.

Go to this and scroll down to the Brawl section. he explains what the "Brawl Polls" really are.

Okay, but why don't you see a FF rep in brawl?

This isn't a game where Final Fantasy characters belong. Can you truly see Cloud and Cecil running around with the likes of Mario and it not being too awkward? I sure can't. The don't belong, or fit in.

Right behind you with a knife.
What's this? People are playing "it doesn't fit" card for Smash Bros of all series? Really now, seeing as we have the LoZ and FE series runnng around there, I don't see how this could really be a complaint. Snake was far more "unfitting" and yet he worked out just fine. Final Fantasy would work out despite any hostlities you feel towards the series, even if t was a character from one of the more futuristic games.

Also, Neo Exdeath, pick a avatar and stick with it.

In my defense, I said He wouldn't get in, I said nothing about not fitting in, yet was called out for saying a Chocobo wouldn't fit, which did not happen.

Regardless, certain characters are scrapped because they do not work. Balloon Fighter (allegedly) was not implemented do to his mechanic not working, same with urban champion (Mach rider?), and other characters posted in the melee polls that were posted a couple posts ago.

characters I want: Classic Megaman (I'm fine with X, if I have to be), Takamaru, Lip, Masked Man, Another F-Zero character (SAMURAI GOROH), A Castlevania character.

characters I want that need to be in: Ridley, King K. Rool, Mewtwo, A Ganondorf with original moves.

as for this Square 3rd party thing...

first off, Finman702; saying a character doesn't fit is a worthless argument. Zelda characters and Mario Characters don't fit together. Fire Emblem and Pokemon characters don't fit together. if that wasn't enough, the fact that Snake is there completely destroys your argument, since he doesn't fit with any other characters, yet he still works great and doesn't feel awkward.

that being said, not belonging is a different matter. the only character that (I assume) would be allowed in are ones from Nintendo games, which limits the characters being from games 1-6 (not including spin-off games). my bet would be they would choose a generic class, like Black Mage, OR use a character from FFIII of FFV, and have them change classes back and forth quickly to use moves.

regardless, Megaman deserves a Third Party slot more than any other character.

Please don't screw with Ganon's moves. There is no need to Screw Ganon mains out of their character so you can enjoy playing as ganon when you do (which isn't as often as those who main him, like myself).

And please noone pull that Black Shadow Bull. Giving Black Shadow Ganon's current moveset could easily be done with giving a new character the "heavy swordsman" role *coughIkecough*

His power and Magic have been a reacurring role within Ganon's history, while sword(s), tridents, etc. have changed from game to game. The current ganon is the appitomy of Ganon's history.

I would like to see G-dorf get a few new attacks. Sepcifically, I would like to see a new Neutral Special (Involving the sword) and possibly a new Up-Tilt and Down-Special. drag0nscythe has mentioned giving him a B-Down that lets him pull out his sword. An idea not without merit, but Sword Ganondorf would, logically, be stronger, have better priority, have better reach, and be even slower. Not a great character concept.

G-Dorf doesn't need an overhaul, but a few new moves would be nice.

The Warlok Punch, can indeed be changed (I don't hink anyone uses it consistently). If the down special was taken away, Ganon's already poor apporach/ Punishment would be gimped further, not a pretty picture...

Yeah, I know it would hurt his approach (That was my original opposition to drag0nscythe's idea), but the D-Special isn't a fantastic approach anyway. Heck, a new D-Special might end up in him getting a better one.

♣ Though it would be another sword user, Ganondorf with his sword would be a great idea. Something most of use can agree on. ♥

In theory it would work most similarly to a lance, but i only want him to use it in one attack, if it all. I would rather Keep Ganon as he is than re-do him entirely.

@Lovely: Except most Ganon mains :p

Personally, I like drag0nsythe's suggestion for Ganondorf to have two movesets. Basically, one of his taunts swaps in and out of the old and new movesets.
