How does being female make you a better candidate?
I didn't say it was. I'm just saying that she might be received better as a result. When I said that her inclusion could be looked in other ways, that was from our perspective, not a developer's.

Same logic as saying that Smash needs more villains I suppose. Neither category is really well represented, so people think that there should be more of each group, despite the obvious fact that if these groups are not being well represented, then its probable that characters don't get in for just being a female or a villain, but rather their merits in being important to their series.

Still won't stop either type of argument from constanly being brought up.

(Though being either a female, villain, or both doesn't hurt your chances by any means. You just need to be more than that. Thus Lip being a female in of itself isn't a reason to be in, but it can be a plus.)

Needs more female villains.

...oh wait

Lets talk boss battles now.
IMO i would rather have SSB4 on a different console so we could have larger disc space.
(Because lots of villains and baysplosions makes a happy gamer, rite?)
The HP thing works fine for boss fights BUT- i would like it if Sakurai implemented a pattern/weakness type format. Having OMEGA Ridley fight mostly out of range in the background, but rests on the stage -Only being hurt by a fully charged F-smash to the chest.
It implements more survival in a platform game.

Stage music is somewhat dependant on the stages that are actually included. Thus, in my list of music for Smash 4 that I'm working on, I'm also including stages with it because of that. Still, some things I will say is that for Punch Out music, I'd like Soda Popinski and Disco Kid's music. (Everything else that Jumpman says is fine too, outside of Aran Ryan's theme, which isn't as good in my humble opinion)

Also Super Mario Galaxy, and DDR Mario Mix music should both be included, with the latter being sadly overlooked)

The problem with making music lists is that most peoples' have 400+ tracks and almost every one has over 100 tracks another one doesn't have.

And what list are you talking about? Unless you didn't post it . . . .
If you're making a list, you might want to 'linkify' the songs to their Youtube counterparts if they're obscure.

Its a shame really that there is so little released in regards to Brawl. A good chunk of this newer stuff is somewhat irreivant in regards to characters who made it big or were created from the GC/GBA generation onwards.

Oh, and given that Captain Rainbow didn't sell well (and isn't coming internationally) I think that Takamaru's/Lip's/whatever's chances are pretty bad, seeing as at least in the case of Takamaru, his inclusion was based somewhat on sales. (Wait, doesn't that whole thing contradict some of the babbling that Sakurai's interests take priority to popularity?)
Maybe. I don't think he likes the idea of adding people who are virtually unknown. Also, if you think about it, Pit had a decent amount of demand but Sakurai said that he'd only do it if the GBA release of Kid Icarus sold well. In a way, he kind of bypassed the fans' demand and looked at something else. In a way, it kind of adds further evidence that Sakurai doesn't just add people because they are popular. For example, he also said that Ganondorf wouldn't have even been in Melee if his body structure wasn't so similar to Captain Falcon's despite him being the most requested Legend of Zelda character.

Well, in other news, we now have physical evidence that Jigglypuff and Pichu were joke characters so hopefully no one will try to argue that they weren't now. Also, I really need to see how well Takamaru's game sold because that may greatly affect if he appears in the next Smash.

I havn't completed the list, so I havn't posted it yet, but from what I have so far, each one has a youtube link. For instance, for the prospect of a Mario stage based around Bowser's Castle, the format I have goes like this...

Mario Stage 2 (Bowser Castle Theme)
Nemesis King Koopa Vocals (SMG) – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IObwdOCAfdU&feature=related
Final Bowser Battle (SMG) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIuvjG3Egjo
Bowser’s Star Reactor (SMG/SM64) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_gS2jO2PjM
Angry Bowser (PM) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFbdwxLDzMA
Bowser Fight (SM64) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3kye9HKC4Uo
Bowser Castle Remix (DDR MM)- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7J24vpqlIgA&feature=related
Bowser Fight (SPM) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQLrHp74YYc

Incidently Mario Stage 1 is supposed to be based around SMG. :lick:

Why would I tell you guys that?
Here's an idea for a stage in SSB4: the Boxing Ring from the Punch-Out!! series! It is a normal stage... except fighters can get bounced off of ropes! A bonus feature of this stage is that when Little Mac does something like Snake and the SF characters do, Doc Louis will give Mac tips on how to beat one of his opponents! What do you guys think?

What, you don't give them names?

Also, I'm going to post my list soon as well (within two months, which really isn't soon)
?

You mean the stage name? I guess I havn't since I've never really come to a solid decision about all the stages, so I just say theme to make it more conformed. If its not that, I gave the song's name in most cases, unless I didn't know the official name.

That's actually what my idea for the PO stage should be (technically being world circuit) and the only real difference in my mind is that there could be a rope ladder to nowhere that shows up in the middle of the ring. (As seen in the SMM and
Donkey Kong
fights)

You know what? I'd love it if with the next Smash poll they held a contest to see who can make the best music remixes for SSB4 and the top ten winners would have their content added in the game. (Technically, when people do this they forfeit their ownership to the larger company so their wouldn't be any copyright issues.) For example, I think this would be amazing to fight to:

Also, I really need to see how well Takamaru's game sold because that may greatly affect if he appears in the next Smash.
"Greatly" is too strong of a word. It may influence whether Takamaru appears or not, but at the end of the day, Sakurai's opinion is practically the only thing that matters when it comes to choosing characters.

But since you asked, GBA Nazo no Murasame-Jou total sales figures rounds up to 0.07m according to VGChartz.

Sales History: http://www.vgchartz.com/swlaunch.php?game1=Famicom Mini 22 Nazo no Murasamejo - GBA

In Famitsu sales 2004, Nazo no Murasamejō placed in 241th place out of 500, which is impressive.

(I can't find sales numbers for the original Nazo no Murasamejō)

Not sure about you, but these figures honestly exceeds my expectations. Given the circumstances Nazo no Murasamejō was in (let's not forget the context), the GBA title sold―I would say―decent if not relatively well for what it was. Couple in the original Nazo no Murasamejō numbers (not sure how much, but I'm confident it sold more than the GBA counterpart), and you pretty much get an idea of how successful Nazo no Murasamejō is sales-wise.

You know what? I'd love it if with the next Smash poll they held a contest to see who can make the best music remixes for SSB4 and the top ten winners would have their content added in the game. (Technically, when people do this they forfeit their ownership to the larger company so their wouldn't be any copyright issues.)
Dude.. I know how you feel. Some fans are just better composers than the professionals at times. Miku Hatsuné for instance.. all the songs that are released on her records are fan made, but if chosen by the vocaloid company for an album, you're able to give up those rights.

...but i have no clue if theres pay involved.

Okay, this is probably the coolest thing I've seen all day. Also, I'm definately going to need help with this... It took me nearly an hour to read two pages and there are probably close to 100 pages altogether.
I might help a little. If I do, I'll probably go the stupid way and just do Bablefish and try to piece it together (I can usually get the subject that way). I know someone whio knows Japanese, so I might ask for his help on a few.

How does being female make you a better candidate?
It really doesn't, but there are a lot of fans who want to see more female characters.

I forgot to add Olimar to my roster, sorry! I'll do it!

Also, what music would you guys like to see in Smash 4? I would like to see Brawl's Shin Onigashima, and from Punch-Out!! Wii: the World Circuit, Mr. Sandman, and Aran Ryan themes.
Except all the fighter themes were the main Punch-Out melody to a different musical style.

Well, if you think about it, he added him based on some kind of popularity. The character was added because a lot of people bought the game. In some way, that is popularity.

Sakurai has a big belief on adding characters people know. This is why he has been opposed to adding characters from Japanese only games. He didn't want to add him if people didn't know who he was. Since the GBA game sold well enough, it means enough people knew more about Pit. Thus, the move would make more sence rather then "who?"

If Takamaru's game ever comes on the VC in America, expect him to be playable.

Well, in other news, we now have physical evidence that Jigglypuff and Pichu were joke characters so hopefully no one will try to argue that they weren't now. Also, I really need to see how well Takamaru's game sold because that may greatly affect if he appears in the next Smash.
It sold about 70,000 in Japan.

Been a while since I've seen you.

...You don't know me, I'd just been lurking.

Anyway, Geno (and Roy at this point) don't deserve playability. Roy's chance of returning left with his exclusion from Brawl, and Geno simply has no significance to Square Enix OR the Mario series.

Well, in this case, Sakurai said it would be the major thing that would affect his decision in whether or not to let him in. To Sakurai, it seems to be more important to him whether or not the character is decently known than not whether or not they are particulary liked. (So far the only people that has gone against this is Game and Watch and Roy.) Hmm... I guess I'll look over the sales and see how well it comes to the other GBA classic titles released that year.

Add in: Ladies and Gentleman... I have the results... Removing all the third party titles, this is what it looks like from most sales to least in the Famicom series:

1. Super Mario Bros
2. Super Mario Bros 2
3. Ice Climber
4. Link's Adventure
5. Dr. Mario
6. Excitebike
7. Mario Bros
8. Tantei Club Part I
9. Wrecking Crew
10. Tantei Club Part II
11. Balloon Fight
12. Mystery of Murasame Castle
13. Metroid
14. Kid Icarus

Mystery of Murasame Castle beat Kid Icarus by about four thousand copies to boot. Third to last, granted but if Pit can get it simply by being dead last...

Geno definitely is an obscure character with no popularity or even people knowing about his existence outside of message boards (maybe he's only known of in SMASH message boards) and Square Enix is greedy enough that it won't ever happen, but Roy *could* come back. If there is no new Fire Emblem Lord to put in for marketing purposes by SSB4 than Roy could get in. It's a slim chance but he definitely isn't as unlikely as Geno.

Well, if you think about it, he added him based on some kind of popularity. The character was added because a lot of people bought the game. In some way, that is popularity.
Let me just state that sales doesn't always equate to popularity.

e.g. Cult films may not have mainstream success, but they have followings that tend to become bigger over time. Underground hip-hop is popular despite not selling nearly anything what mainstream hip-hop makes. etc. I'm basically saying that there are exceptions.

Truth be told, I'm starting to dismiss the "Japan-only" thing, partially because some characters invalidates it, but also because it's down right silly. Putting such superficial limitations on a Nintendo "All-Star" title is just... dumb―makes me wish/hope some Capcom developer makes SSB4.

But it's true that Sakurai tends to add characters people know nowadays. He does makes exceptions, though.

The GBA title sold about 70,000 in Japan.
fixed.

@Fatmanonice: I would never had thought that Nazo no Murasamejō would outsell Metroid and Kid Icarus on release given it's history. That's saying something. Wow

I've already proven this statement horrifically wrong many times before so there's really no point in me doing it again. Don't try me, I can easily prove you wrong. Also, considering how Super Mario RPG is the second best selling third party VC game is all four major regions (Japan, Europe, North America, and Australia) and has been in the top ten each month since its release, I think it's safe to say that a decent number of people at least know who he is.

Was'nt there some hint about Travis Touchdown being in the next one? I think the creator said something like he'll lok forward to Travis Touchdown playing with Link. I may be wrong...

"I love him (Travis), and I want him to be a huge star. That's why I'm working very hard to make this game as interesting as possible. Maybe in the future, we can see him fighting alongside Link in the next Smash Bros. [laughs] That would be great."
It could happen. I love NMH, but the crazy stuff that happens in that game is perhaps even more crazier than what we see in MGS, and that might hinder his chances somewhat.

Still, it could happen. I wouldn't mind.

Sales on the VC were good, but games on the VC don't sell as well as console games, so by comparison SMRPG did well but it still didn't reach a lot of people. Besides, even if some people recognize him, aren't many more going to recognize and want characters like Bowser Jr. and Paper Mario, who have actually been in multiple games?

I know that the two statements seem to contradict each other, and SMRPG did reach a good amount of people I guess, but I'm just saying that on VC games don't sell quite as well and it doesn't mean as much that SMRPG did well in comparison to other VC games. It never sold too well when it was originally released as well.

Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars (1.47 million in Japan) *cough* That's not including the other regions or the VC sales. In comparison, Kid Icarus sold about 1.09 million and Metroid sold one million when they were first released.

Why doesn't it mean much? You know what, no, you're right. I guess S&P success on the VC didn't mean much either. I mean, yeah it's getting a sequel, but that doesn't mean much.

And why are you taking away from SMRPGs' success, belittling it even?

It never sold too well when it was originally released as well.

Welcome to my world. I've been hearing stuff like this since 2005. "Nobody played it." "Hardly anyone liked it." "Nobody wants to see a sequel." "It'll never be on the Virtual Console." Blah, blah, blah. If anything, one of the big reasons I'm still supporting Geno is because I believe, in Nintendo's whole library, it's probably one of the games most deserving of a true sequel. Punch Out got one. Sin and Punishment is getting one. Earthbound got one. Chrono Trigger got a sequel and was remade twice. Miyamoto made it apparent that a Kid Icarus sequel will come eventually. Why not SMRPG? I mean, if there are people like me and McSnapple who still want to see Geno make a comeback 13 years after his original game was released then the game obviously did something right. If music videos with SMRPG material can reach close to 2 million views, then the game obviously had some lasting appeal, didn't it? If the game was in the top five most requested VC games basically world wide until it was released and then has stayed in the top ten since it was released then people have to had liked/were interested in it. Still, it's an on-going fight for us Geno/SMRPG fans but we hope to win evenutally.

OK, I looked though a few. All of these are on page 15. Also, remember that I'm guessing since the translation sucks.

RO's
He seems to be saying how he liked the game, but there is never enough time (or he waste a lot of it). A lot of work at the University. Sakurai says how he wants people to enjoy the game, but is sorry not everyone has a lot of time.

Mr. Taka 4
Except that he mentioned Nintendo's puzzle games, I have no idea what he's talking about.

MN さん MN's
Talks about him and his friends playing Smash and how he never has enough time due to school. Sakurai mentions that when he plays it, the time seems to tick away.

Mr. SHIKUYA
He mentiones how he's played the game A LOT and how he loves the good and some of the bad). Something about a technique. What Sakurai said would make scene if I knew what this "best technique" was.

TK さん TK's
Says his brother uses Luigi, his sister uses Kirby, and he uses Yoshi. I believe he wants the characters to be more balanced (specially Yoshi). [I might be wrong about the balance. He might also be saying he likes the characters and they all fight well]. He really wants a second one and tells Sakurai to add courses along with characters. Sakurai agrees.

ぽけもんまにあ さん It only has to be solved or preservation (what?)

He talks about this mode he made up called "survival" I think the goal is to beat a Lv 9 by as many lives as you can (no items, 99 lives). His record is 21 lives with Kirby. What Sakurai said may be important, but I'm not sure.

MILK さん Mr. MILK
He mentions Square and Nintendo working together on Mario RPG and said Nintendo should work with other companies for Smash bros. He mentions a game from Sega he's like to see in. From Nintendo, he wants Marth. He would also like to see a story mode. Sakurai isn't very clear. He mentions the reputation of Square and Nintendo. He does say something important though.

Nothing else really vital. KK さん Mr. KK may be important

Remember Fatman, SMRPG =! Geno. Just because SMRPG sells well, doesn't mean Geno automatically profits from it. The game may be a big seller on the VC (heck, its one of the few games I got from it) but it already does have three characters from it, so its well represented as it is.

Also SMRPG has a sequel...its Paper Mario/M&L. :p

It almost seem as if people are blissfully ignorant of just how popular SMRPG is, and the impact it had on the Mario series. I've seen petitions that well over 20,000 fans have signed. I've seen fan-made videos with millions of views. I've heard of a plethora of e-mails being sent to Nintendo about a remake. Mother is practically the only other game/series which has such support.

SMRPG kick-started the Mario RPG series, one of the most successful series in gaming. It's quite possibly the longest lasting sub series in the Mario series.

It's been 13 years since Super Mario RPG was released―little did anyone know, 13 years later, it's still consider one of the best Mario games out there. A true classic, one which I believe is more than deserving for a remake.

OH GOD YES PLEASE!
It should run on the n64 engine.. Infact it should be SSB1 but with an updated roster and attacks. Upon seeing who people like in this game would determine who makes the SSB4 cut. Or something
I think the DS Lite can handle N64 graphics quite well, so yeah. I can easily see characters like Starfy and Andy making it in, which opens up the doors for more characters for SSB4 who probably wouldn't make it in before them. Not to mention another 3rd paty character. It'd be great. ;D

Eh, Geno does benefit from SMRPGs' success one way or another. And you saying SMRPG is "well represented" is subjective talk. There's no invisible number that says a franchise will get this many characters and so forth.

And Paper Mario is more of a spiritual successor than it is a true sequel. ;P

As I've said in the past, there's still no content in Brawl except for Peach's frying pan and the mention in the chronicle. That's it. Also, if SMRPG is going to have more content it has to be big. Neither company is going to bother with each other for a few stickers, a trophy, an assist trophy, etc.

*throws a pie at pieman* Paper Mario is not a true sequel to SMRPG and neither are the Mario and Luigi games based on their playstyles and how they don't have any of the characters from the old games, not even minor ones. There's nothing that truely ties those games together aside from a few basic things. Basically the only thing that's been retained is the collecting of seven stars and Mario RPGs weird sense of humor.

Actually, there was a Japanese magazine that stated that Mario's FS was based on his attacks in SMRPG...Though they of course are not aesthetically perfect matches. Anyways, the fact that any representation of SMRPG would have to be big, lest it not be bothered with, is one of the larger killing points for any of its content to be included. For one, there are more deserving SE games that should be covered first, and secondly, there are even more important Mario games that never really got much representation in Smash. (I'm looking at you SMB3...Also Galaxy, but that's acceptable for now) Heck, why not represent more of Super Paper Mario. That game sold more than SMRPG, is newer, and isn't third party. Given that Smash tends to favor the newer games within a series most of the time, I'd say that its much more likely that the more recent game gets represented before a older one.

And while there is no true sequel for the avid fan of SMRPG, all three of the M&L games, as well as PM2 have been "Mario RPGs" in Japan. While the style and story hasn't been fully retained, they are still sequels in a sense, given their systems that all emphasize timed attacks. Quite frankly though, I will say that it seems that characters in these games mostly never return...heck, its quite a feat that Fawful has done as well as he has, given that no other recurring Beanbean character to the best of my knowledge.
