the pointers that I reffered to, simply point to later in the file where the action data (amongst other things) are stored. if there is a bunch of actions taken (frequency doesn't matter), you'll need a larger offset in the file (because there's more data, when you need to point to the end of it; i.e. if you needed to say "look after the action data" when there are only 10 actions vs when there are 10,000). At some point, the amount of data stored exceeds the offset representable in the number of bits allotted for that pointer, and the replay can't function.

Any thoughts on the file replacent code change? Any way of getting it to read files from the usb slot rather then the sd card? I can load brawl+ through a thumb drive with gecko but i can't use textures.

I don't think anyone truly understands how the File Replacement code works. I've had a peek at it occaisionally and I'm sure I will again, but it's pretty cryptic and I'm already behind my fictional schedule.

Thats fine just wanted to know where it stood. Im sure a code of that nature its pretty tough to switch around.

the pointers that I reffered to, simply point to later in the file where the action data (amongst other things) are stored. if there is a bunch of actions taken (frequency doesn't matter), you'll need a larger offset in the file (because there's more data, when you need to point to the end of it; i.e. if you needed to say "look after the action data" when there are only 10 actions vs when there are 10,000). At some point, the amount of data stored exceeds the offset representable in the number of bits allotted for that pointer, and the replay can't function.

Cool, I get it now.

Shorter pointers would be more easily overloaded with data and would fail, but longer pointers would be able to carry much more data before they failed.

That means, theoretically, a pointer could be long enough to remember a 99 stock match without failure, but I'm guessing that having pointers long enough to do that would be a bit much for the Wii's RAM.

Here's an interesting thought --
Encoded in a replay must be data for every button press and random event like item appearance.
All these events have to be placed within a time-frame, so that means the replay must be able to perform a player's quickest or most precise movements.
With this in mind, a hacker could construct button data for a match that never occurred or alter an existing match.
Can you imagine taking a replayed match where you lost due to your timing just being a little off and tweaking it until it appeared to be a match where you had perfect timing and won as a result?
If the Wii can make you lose a battle you actually won with one faulty button reading, then isn't plausible that a "faulty" button reading could make you win?

Has nothing to do with the Wii's ram, and entirely on their decision to just use 32bit pointers instead of 64 (which would've given them virtually limitless replays). It's just the datatype the decided on, no real limitations of anything.

It's very possible in concept to create your own replay from scratch, although there's an implementation catch. I've talked to someone who's tried dealing with this before. Replay files are AES encrypted (as per any other brawl save data), and the few people that know how to decode (and re-encode) aren't particularly willing to share their knowledge. The spec is pretty much known on Replay files, it's just that you'd need to break that encryption.

a 32-bit pointer is sufficient to hold extremely large pointers. In theory it would range from an address from 00000000 to FFFFFFFF, which is about 4GB of space. Of course practically it's less, but 32 bits is a lot.

In retrospect, it must've not been a 32bit pointer. Although I'm having difficulty finding that spec again.

T_T Ok so I rendered and made both a In battle picture, and a character selection screen picture, both are in TGA Files, both are saved in 32 Bit, and both backgrounds have 255 Magenta But when I tried converting the 2 files with CSP tools, both files were deleted... as well as all my desktop icons... And the 2 pictures were deleted too.. so I had to re render them, recolor them all over again and argh... Since this is a request topic can I please send these 2 files to someone who knows how to make them into a Character Selection Screen Picture and a In battle screen picture ;-;

I have MSN and Aim.. Chronicle4life, or Linkhero32@hotmail.com I can send the 2 TGA files like that

Please and thank you!

I already have the codes to make the Portraits work and all that, as well on my SD card.

Step 1: Install the homebrew channel through any method you like. Smashboards cannot help you with this step.

Step 2: "Install" Gecko OS, either as a homebrew application (normal), or as a channel (more advanced)

Step 3: Get the brawl+ codeset (.gct) and put them in the appropriate place on your SD card

Step 4: Put a Brawl disk in your wii, Load up Gecko OS (typically through the homebrew channel), and hit "Launch Game"

Step 5: Ask More specific questions.

I have three requests:
1. We should have an official music hack for the online waiting room level, preferably made up of the good songs that are on banned stages. Also maybe an official texture hack for it as well.
2. A custom stage select menu with unfrozen versions of frozen stages (this would also make it so we could freeze even more stages because you could still play the unfrozen version)
3. A cooler looking NPC shield, we might as well make new versions of all the shields, it seems like its an easy hack.

I think all three of these could be in the official release since they don't alter gameplay.

Alright, I'm having a huge problem with the Character Selection Portraits (CSPs).

I used CUPASH to create a common5.pac containing my desired CSPs. I saved that file in the RSBE/pf/system directory of my SD Card. But when I load the game, it doesn't work. What am I doing wrong?

I got a question, and need some help.

I have B+ installed and all that good ****. But it's textures where there's a prob.

So yeah, I got the latest update btw. I do all the cheat manager and gecko stuff, and I'm on hte brawl roster screen. It shows the textures on there when your picking the character. But once you start the match, they're just regular costumes. Is there a problem on the SD card?

If not, someone mind helping? Or giving me a codeset of theirs.

>_>

Can music hacking be done without ISO hacking?

Or how else would you rip a song from the game?

Moved over Raoh's question.

It's still debatable whether or not you can do such a thing. Phantom Wings thought he had something for a while but it eventually came apart, I believe. The main issue is that unlike things like Textures, Music must be streamed from the drive, and it's a lot harder to persuade the Wii to stream something from an SD card than a one-time load.

So right now it is not possible to change songs using Homebrew, and that is as far as I will discuss the matter.

Masterpimp, maybe you should go out and find all the guides to things like these that are scattered across the internet. The reason people probably don't respond is because they've already answered your question tens of times, and can't be bothered to find the resources again, which you could most likely find within 5 minutes of searching yourself.

Please fix the actual combo count option in training, would help alot >.<

This way we can actually try combos on non moving opponents to see if its really a combo.

Can you guys make a way to slow down and speed up replays? So you dont have to go through the whole thing to get to your epic combo?

Moved sword's post into here.

I don't think that's possible, Fiction. At best it might be possible to pause replays. But you can do that already using the debug/frame by frame code found in the code agenda.

I know it's probably been posted 1000 times but could I get the code for infinite replay time. Also is there a code to have default setting of 3 stock 8 min team attack on. I'm not sure if this is true or not but is there something that will save people tags on the replay.

Though I don't see the need for this to be in brawl+ I do have a small request and I'm hoping this is the best spot to ask.

Is there a code, or is a code even possible, that slows down the waters on Jungle Japes? I like the level for the most part but even with a fast character it seems you screwed if you even get close to the water. Sure if you drop from the right you can make it but anywhere near the middle or left and your screwed. If there is no way to change this then I'll just make the layout in stage studio or something.

Well I have 2 questions that need answered:

1. Can you switch between playing with textures one day and not playing with textures the next BUT still playing with the latest Brawl+ codeset?

2. How much memory should a SD card have if you need to:

- downgrade 4.0 wii
- obtain homebrew channel & geckos
- download codeset & textures

and all the other stuff needed to play Brawl+.

1: take out your SD card from your Wii and there will be no textures
2: IDK, use a 1GB or a 2GB.

Sure if you drop from the right you can make it but anywhere near the middle or left and your screwed. If there is no way to change this then I'll just make the layout in stage studio or something.
Use the level speed modifier.

sry 4 double post, btw.

Well I just tried it out but I don't think the speed modifier affects the actual water. I put in the stage number for the stage modifier and put in the speed I wanted for the speed modifier but it never changed the water push effect. These are the codes I tired. One at a time of course.
Code:
Half Speed
4A000000 90180F08
10000033 0000002B
10000034 00000000
E0000000 80008000
4A000000 90000000
1416A904 3F000000
E0000000 80008000
At first I figured it just wasn't slowed down enough until I tried this next combination.
Code:
1/4 Speed
4A000000 90180F08
10000033 0000002B
10000034 00000000
E0000000 80008000
4A000000 90000000
1416A904 3E800000
E0000000 80008000
With this it was very easy to tell that visually the water was moving slower but when you actually fall into it you're being pushed the same way. Just to figure it out for sure I then the put level in reverse with this.
Code:
Reverse
4A000000 90180F08
10000033 0000002B
10000034 00000000
E0000000 80008000
4A000000 90000000
1416A904 BF800000
E0000000 80008000
And as I had expected the water was moving in reverse but you still went to the left of the screen, visually against the current.
