Also, I'll openly admit that I just don't get Ike. I'm good at Ike Dittos, and that's about it. I don't understand how that character hits people without frequently guessing and getting lucky, or taking advantage of bad habits, which are drastically reduced at high level play. How do you maintain any sort of stage control?

As far as spacing goes, he can create distance for himself both on ground and in the air.
He can space attacks on ground similarly to snake with his jab1 and jab2. You can time the jabs manually, or input a small combat walk by holding A. The kick part of jab can cover a lot of short hop aerial approaches too at times.


Depending on the way you jab, you can easily get 20-30% + if you time delays in jabs, combat walks, and jab cancels correctly, even with SDI. Ike will always have a frame advantage if you're trying to attack him out of his jabs, and can be punished.


He also has a slight burst distance attack with dash attack, it covers a sizable distance (around half or more of BF) in only 17 frames. If the opponent is in the middle of doing something else, there's a good chance he could get hit. It's bad on shield unless you hit with the very tip, then it's quite difficult to punish properly.

As for keeping distance, retreating bair gets the job done most of the time, nair for the rest. Spacing fair is alright too, but can be PSd. Nair spaced perfectly is difficult to punish even when shielded correctly.

Most Ikes will be utilizing dash+shield properties, since Ike has one of the faster dashes, and he slides in his shield, allowing for times where he can punish with jab where a standing shield wouldn't. Dash + shield grab and dash+shield drop to jab are both quite fast, and can interrupt many attacks.

Getting a grab at low %s allows for a dthrow chase, where the opponent can only throw out an aerial as soon as possible, waste a double jump, or air dodge. Anywhere from 20-80% and you get a bthrow to dash attack which does ~17% fresh.


Hitting people out of air dodge is incredibly easy, and there are times where the opponent can't even throw out an aerial without getting outranged anyways.


He has decent kill setups like jab->utilt or jab->bair and ways to force air dodges. He also has a very good pivot grab against aerial opponents.

How do you maintain any sort of stage control?

Stage control is incredibly easy for Ike. He is best on stages with platforms where he can easily get from one side of the stage to the other with quickdraw. If you time it right, you can get a lagless landing.


Ike is one of the better characters at punishing people on platforms. If someone is about to land on a platform, you can uair and it will hit almost every time.
Uair, Fair, Bair, utilt, and usmash are all good at pushing shields on platforms, and easily causes edge slips, which allows for free jabs, and in some cases ftilt or usmash.
Ike will be abusing platforms whenever you take him to a stage with them.


Ike can also guard the edge pretty easily. If you're offstage, you can't do anything against fair except try to avoid it. There's also aether, etc. If you're grabbing the ledge, Ike can abuse aerials from a safe distance.



I barely even have to think or use reads when I play, since there are so many options which keep me in the advantage against most characters. Most of my play I can simply autopilot and kick back.

No, this is tier list reflects the worldwide Brawl community, since the BBR is composed of members around the world. Even though there's more Americans in the BBR than people from other countries, the focus is actually the opposite of what you say, the focus is the entire world. This would explain why the Tier List puts so little weight on John#'s data, because it's only a reflection of the American metagame, and not the world wide metagame.

Regardless, the explanation you're looking for is in the first paragraph in the OP. It's an MK legal tier list because the BBR felt it's too early for an MK banned one, since he only got banned like a month before we started this. Not even our first tier list was that soon.

It still has a reflection of only the NA scene used in its data. Tournaments in other areas were not used objectively: according to what I read in the OP, they held ZERO objective merit, meaning that this tier list is primarily for NA even if people claim otherwise. If it was truly worldwide, European, Japanese, and Australian tournaments would have been required to make up a percentage each of the tier list weight when compared to NA tournaments. If it doesn't, you're just claiming it as worldwide because some of the members pay more attention to areas outside of NA (and rightfully so if they are living in say, Europe).

If those tournaments didn't hold weight like the ones in John#'s data, how can you say objectively that they influence the tier list an equal amount?

There are really two top level IC's in the NA, Vinnie and ESAM, and two top level Diddy's, ADHD and Gnes. So, they're tied on the level. Off the top of my head, the Diddy's that have dome something this year are:

ADHD, GNES, Player-1, Biglou, Zinoto, Fliphop, Vato, Lie, Felix, GDX

I would add Jebus, but I don't know what he has done. Even though most of them aren't winning nationals, there really isn't a character (maybe Olimar) that has that many high level players still taking names.

If we were going by just Japan and Atl North then the tier list should be remolded to the Atlantic North tier list. The rest of the continent is incorporated into it, because we are the strongest region does not mean how well we do is how well the country should do on a whole scale.

And if we are going by how well Atl North does, I believe ADHD has a winning record vs Vinnie, but he's a bit inactive as of now. Does the placings of one person determine everything?

Oh and also, I completely overlooked this, but Dabuz is #1 on our PR, if we're going by Atl-North then Olimar deserves second, not ICs. Although I believe they do, Atl North says otherwise, right?
