Because it's your job as a player to make the smartest decision possible. If you decide to use a lesser character like Snake or Falco, that's all on you.

Placing higher means you're the better player for that tournament. That's all tournament results show: player strength. It's too hard/complex/inaccurate for tournament results to make indications of character strength.

More people using MK just means people have gotten smarter. Nothing wrong with people being smarter and picking better characters.

While this is true, he was going for the MK still takes a lot of spots even if Brinstar and such are banned.
