does 50hz really create input lag, like the kind we associate with hdtvs?

it's just the game running at a different speed. i don't think it would make "lag" like we traditionally think of, or 50hz would have 5 extra frames of input lag whereas 60hz only has 2 or 3 on the same TV.

that wouldn't really make any sense

holding down+b could very well change the hertz (i wouldn't know, i've never played pal), that's not what i called him out on

The game works at 60 frames per second, but it's displayed at 50. The frame data, when converted to real time units, is still the same. When you play it at 50, you will be skipping frames sometimes, like going from frame 45 to 47, skipping displaying frame 46 (hypothetical example, don't quote). I hope I'm wording this in an understandable manner. MikehaggerTQLIDNFOS Someone posted something along these lines a page back or two, somewhere, but I can't find it. but I'm lazy.

50hz means that you only see 50 frames per second instead of 60 (alrthough the game still RUNS @ 60 fps, you just cant see all of them). now since the game does not update as fast (since there arent as many frames per second) it makes it more laggy. this also means input lag since you would have to wait longer before you see your input updated on screen (1/50th of a second instead of 1/60th of a second)

i just did 1hr of testing it and your right pal does run slightly faster

To play that on a PAL system which is 50 fields per second, it's not so simple, because the only way to make it work would be to repeat a frame. which would create a nasty lag for smash

Rather than doing that The solution is as what being said holding B to make pal run on 60fps

The NTSC and pal versions at 60hz versions are the same length. There are no "extra frames". The PAL version is shorter because it is played faster

1 minute to pass on a pal version only takes 57.6 seconds to view via PAL playback.

i played NTSC a fair amount with the player Fuzzyness

we have always noticed a difference

we just think NTSC runs smoother than pal

What are you guys talking about, no one plays PAL on 50 Hz competitively so why are we talking about that. You only need to hold the B button if you do notice it's 50Hz and you restart, after you did it once you never have to do it again. Now in SSB64, there the PAL version is always 50Hz and can't be changed to 60, so there the NTSC version is way better

Pal ***s are not all europeans. First of all, I would bet every penny I own that not all europeans have played smash and even know what PAL and NTSC mean.
