o___________O It's too bad they didn't make Brawl have downloadable characters. That would have sufficed.

I think Nintendo just did this for kicks; they know everyone would be all over it, seeing as there are strange references to Mega Man and Geno in it.

Don't count on this being anything extra super duper special, folks.

Wouldn't that rather belong in General Discussion? SSB4 thread is here, though ...

Whatever, Twitter is probably the worst idea a man ever had for a website. So much bull**** and hoax' are comming from this site it's not even funny anymore.

Just reading that article makes clear what this is all about, promotion. They're trying to get attention for some new DS game (just who is that Gayton guy anyway, never heard of him) and when it comes to Nintendo what would probably grab the most attention?

That's right, Super Smash Brothers. And what's more hinting at characters like Megaman or Geno will make sure that enough people will see it.

Really it's nothing more than promotion, take everything that comes from Twitter with a big grain of salt.

It may just be a promotion, but it's also a sign that Nintendo knows what characters are popular, whichh is good.

They knew Geno was popular when they made Brawl, if that poll the japanese had wasn't for show that is.

They may have known these characters were popular before, yes. But if this is being posted, then it means that these characters have not been forgotten. Layton, Little Mac, Mega Man, and Geno are all popular choices for a new Smash Bros, and Nintendo acknowledges that here. Although I'm surprised they didn't reference Ridley. That really would have gotten people going.

Since they're doing a second Mario 3D game (Super Mario Galaxy 1+2), maybe it's possible they're doing another Smash Bros game this generation? With the way the Wii's selling, I doubt the generation's ending anytime soon. e_e; Personally I would rather have them wait, but hey, if it's a good SSB4, I'll take it.

There's a strong possibility that the nest Smash will be on DS. Plus, the Wii is still selling like illegal drugs, so the generation will last a good while longer. Plenty of time for a new Smash, particularly if Sakurai isn't in on it anymore. Although he probably will be.

This should probably go in SSB4 discussion.

Doubt it, even with DS's graphics, I sincerely doubt we will ever have a handheld smash, it greatly lowers to possibilities. I mean, compare the few buttons you have with a DS to the GC, you definitely have more options with a GC, even if Smash is a fairly simple game. You only need 2 of those buttons for a smash game, you need shield buttons, and a C-stick. You also need jump buttons. IE, I would hate a DS smash and I think Nintendo realizes that.

Nintendo does not find the C-Stick necessary. The DS has enough buttons because of that.

D-Pad-Movement
A-Attack
B-Special
L-Shield
R-Shield or Grab
X-Jump
Y-Jump or Grab

Tap the screen to taunt.

That pretty much covers it.

Eh, maybe they thought Ridley works better as a boss character. I personally agree, but hey, Charizard works well in Brawl and I'd imagine they'd control similarly aside from moveset.

Also I hope it's not on a DS. Playing Brawl with a Wiimote sideways is pretty much how it would feel like aside from a few missing buttons. I don't want to double tap through platforms. :/

Any speculations for the name? Perhaps "Super Smash Brothers Tournament" because of how it's worded in the Twitter page, but that's kind of a lame name.

EDIT: Also the controls you listed, what would be dash/smash? Double tap? Triple tap D Pad? Or is everyone on dash mode constantly? Interesting to think about.

Big difference between playing with the Wiimote on its own and the DS, I think. Mostly because the DS has more buttons in more convenient locations (the shield button isn't on the back of the controller)

Please post in SSB4 discussion. THat's what it is for.

EDIT: Smash/Dash can be done the same way it was with WiiMote.

I was mainly concerned because dashing and using smash attacks feels a bit awkward to me on the Wiimote. But hey, to each his own I suppose. I also played the original Smash Bros using a DS as a controller using some homebrew program awhile back, and it felt comfortable, but it depends on how they design the game.

To be safe, I'd rather have a Wii one again.

This is starting to turn into another SSB4 Discussion Thread.

I'm thinking a mod should close this...

This is nothing like what I expected! I was told to FIGHT a blue robot boy, a possessed doll, and a tiny boxer! I'm leaving at once!
Nintendo is trolling us.

Look at Nintendo's line-up for this year and next. They are releasing all kinds of big titles. Why not throw a DS smash game into the mix?

Still, this is most likely fake. Nintendo knows how to get their fans going with these simple hints.

First of all, don't get your hopes up people, I seriously doubt there is another smash game coming for awhile. Even if their was, remember how long brawl took to make?

As for another console generation, I think nintendo, microsoft, and sony are all waiting for televisions with stereoscopic 3D to become mainstream (think 3D movies in theaters now) because that will most likely be the next big gimmick, every generation needs one.

Doubt it, even with DS's graphics, I sincerely doubt we will ever have a handheld smash, it greatly lowers to possibilities. I mean, compare the few buttons you have with a DS to the GC, you definitely have more options with a GC, even if Smash is a fairly simple game. um, they made smash to be played with a wiimote, it isn't good, but if they were willing to do that I doubt a DS would be a big deal to them.

A DS game while highly unlikely COULD actually be really good if done right. Think about it, smash isn't about graphics, it's about gameplay, they could theoretically make the gameplay and online a lot better than brawl currently is.

as for the controller, you have directional input, 4 face buttons and two shoulder buttons, that is all you ever use in brawl, I don't know where you are getting this "more options" business.

Still, I doubt it, and yet this does seem to be hyping smash bros from Nintendo, so it's confusing, it wouldn't have been a big deal unless he hadn't mentioned newcomers, that's what is really confusing about this, we'll have to stay tuned to see if they say anything else.

Lol at the brawl isn't about graphics comment. While it is true its gameplay first graphics second for Smash, Brawl has some of the best graphics on the Wii.

one thing is a major kink in all of this. you know this is nintendo of america putting out this information, you know what that means, it means a whole lot of nothing.

most any real announcements always come from nintendo of japan, and guess who would be making another smash bros game if another one was indeed being made? Nintendo of Japan.

so for that reason I don't think there is another smash anytime soon, I just can't figure out why they are talking about it.

Not only that but smash has historically been a big seller for them, but it's also a long term seller, unless this is a ds item they wouldn't release a new one until they have milked brawl for all it's worth in sales. They even re-advertised brawl on the nintendo channel a year after it came out to try to get new people to buy it.

They might just be doing the same again, trying to get new people to buy smash bros brawl.
I can't say that that's a bad strategy, nor do I mind, more sales of brawl is always a good thing for us.

Ingenious. Absolutely ****** ingenious.

Also, maybe add a 'run' buton like in super mario 64 ds?

Also also, if this is a joke,

Don't know if anyone else saw it but there is a new message on the Professor Layton twitter.

"We had a wonderful discussion over supper about people reading too much into things. Not that there's anything wrong with that, of course."

I have a feeling this was all a cruel joke by none other than Sakurai himself..

How do they know that it was Nintendo? People have been impersonating Pokemon on twitter for months and I know for a fact that Nintendo does not own 200+ different accounts.

Ugh.. Twitter makes me want to toss babies off 5 story buildings... Professor Layton and Little Mac? C'mon, now they're just grasping at straws... Geno I don't care about but he would probably make a good character, Megaman would be cool, though. But if freaking Little Mac is in before the Masked Man...

Though this is probably a joke. Nintendo is taunting us... I mean, there's no way the first info we get about a game being made in Japan is from a US account on a God-awful site like Twitter.

still, it's pretty neat to think about it :D

Yeah, what are they thinking? The protagonist from a first-party series with a recent installment instead of a secondary character from an obscure Japanese game released three years ago that half the fanbase doesn't even know exists?

little mac just got a new game, to be fair, he's a classic character, and there are already several mother characters, so...

Compared to many people he wouldn't have a very, erm, varied and interesting moveset... Punch punch punch punch... (but i guess the same could be said for swords, slash slash slash...)He'd be a playable version of his assist trophy, which is IMO what he's better suited for. I just don't see him as a very exiting or intersting character... I guess they could always just pull a Captain Falcon/Space animals, though...
And cmon guys, they're obviously just messing with us.
