Nintendo just confirmed the rumor and gave full details on the new DSi system launching soon in Japan. The DSi LL is a larger DSi featuring two 4.2" screens (compared to the 4.3" PSP screen or 3.8" PSP Go screen).

The system also features a bigger battery making the battery life that of the DS Lite instead of the slightly less DSi system. The system will launch in November 21st in Japan for about $220 in burgundy, brown, and white. The system is also confirmed to launch in Q1 2010 in Europe under the name DSi XL.

My DS Phat is still working fine.

Ironic that now they're going big again after promoting how small the DS Lite was compared to the DS (And even going back to shrinking the GBA->SP->Micro)

its still designed quite small (as in not much space that isnt being used)

despite the new screens its still thinner than the ds lite

and as someone mentioned to me, it could be a great marketing technique to appeal to the older demographic who cant see small screens well, or handle tiny stylii with precision

Oh look, it comes in old people colors.

Despite me owning (and loving) the DSi. I think this is what they should of done on the get go. But the only difference between the DSi and the DS LL is the big screens. Hell there's no new resolution either.

This is more suited to people who can't see small leters OR the touch pad on a DS/i/Lite is too small for 15 year old's playing Call of Duty while screaming at their mothers.

Nintendo saw its first drop in profits in 6 years.
Its economic sense to release something only when you need to. From Nintendo's stand point, they need to in order to prevent their stock from dropping.

Still not good enough to get me to upgrade from my sexy gold DS Lite.
Also, way too expensive.

Remember, the $220 is from yen to US conversion. The DSi costs ~$180 in Japan while it costs $170 in the US. I can't imagine them wanting to break the $200 barrier in the US.

Haha, I've still got the phat as well.

It's not really ironic if you check the color names, Wine Red, etc. It's clearly marketed toward a older "where did I put my glasses" audience.

My opinion of it? Slide a "o" between the two L's and that's what I think of this. Nintendo needs to release actual games if they want to see a profit rather than another hardware iteration. They listed their exciting holiday line up of "New super mario Bros and Wii fit plus". Really? Two games, one of which I hesitate to call a game. And last year was Animal Crossing and Wii music. C'mon Nintendo, you're better than this.

Oh my gosh. Another one. ._.

I'm still using my silver DS Phat and my red DS Lite, lol. Don't see a reason to get another one unless my Lite breaks. This new one looks too big for me.

♣ Muramasa The Demon Blade anyone? I know this game is ignored but it's still one of the best games on Wii so far. ♥

♣ I guess I might get this DSi. ♥

Next year will be a totaly new handheld. But lol DSi Micro would be epic.

I actually like this though. It might be a little bit too large. If it was a tad smaller would of looked nicer.

Ehh....if they brought back the GBA slot I'm sure they'd get a lot more sales and people would actually want to buy it and upgrade from there old phats or lites.

What bowser king said. The price is already higher than the Wii so far, more memory and a bigger screen won't draw much of a crowd unless the shop can play up to N64 games.

Well that sucks for me, I guess. Luckily I didn't buy a DSi for full price.
I won't be picking this one up, I don't need 3 DSs anyways.

Hopefully next year they'll announce the next gen handheld.
A DSi Micro would be a stupid idea from Nintendo.

I hope the price in the US is below $200.

As nice as a GBA slot would be, it wouldn't really help the DSiLL.

I'll stick with my DS lite.

LOL Nintendo LOST a HUGE chunk of my respect for this one. ROFL. They are not catering to ANYONE guys. You may think they are releasing this for people who have fat thumbs, or who can't see or are annoyed by small screens. In reality, they are trying to stop people from pirating their games, just as Sony just tried to do with the PSP go. YOU SUCK NINTENDO.

Actual, it's just a new bit of hardware that Nintendo is pushing out because they're having a profit decline for the first time in six years. A new 'console', even though it's not really new, will help this.

You should really read the artical on the first post, I mean how can anyone miss it? ಠ_ಠ

I most likely not going to get this because I don't need 3 DS's, and this is a great cover up from the DSi's lower battery power mostly.

♣ I blame both 360 and PS3 went down to an affordable price now. Thanks to that, a system with more features that's affordable now will be in charged... maybe except the PSP to the DS since late 2005. And people are starting to realize how low tech the Wii really is, it's a sad sight to see right now, all the big N has to do is depend on first party games to hit big now. T_T ♥

Now if only they made that were exclusive to this. I love DS graphics and all, but I want to see something different. But then again, I still use my very first DS Phat to this day so that's probably why.

I know, right?

What the hell? They released the DSi a year ago today in Japan. This offers NOTHING new. They can't even advertise the crappy (in my opinion) extras this time. It's just lolbigger with some games/apps/whatever they are exactly that are clearly catering to an older audience. (Brain Age and Language training? Really?)

My DS Phat is still working fine.
This.

DS Phat > all.

Lawl, costs more than a Wii.
Bahaha, I didn't even think about that.

Remember, the $220 is from yen to US conversion. The DSi costs ~$180 in Japan while it costs $170 in the US. I can't imagine them wanting to break the $200 barrier in the US.
I don't imagine they'd want to either, but even if they don't break the $200 barrier, it would have to be a little more than $20 cheaper in the US than in Japan...and that's a larger difference than 180 vs. 170.

Haha, I've still got the phat as well.

It's not really ironic if you check the color names, Wine Red, etc. It's clearly marketed toward a older "where did I put my glasses" audience.
Yeah...the more you look at it, the more it's obvious that that's what they're doing.

I just wish for once they'd release a console/handheld suited towards the people who are used to be their fans for once.

My opinion of it? Slide a "o" between the two L's and that's what I think of this. Nintendo needs to release actual games if they want to see a profit rather than another hardware iteration. Unfortunately, I don't think they're better than that anymore...

But, I agree, it's pathetic how they've got no good software anymore. Their big releases are just about once a year, and they advertise the Wii series games ad nauseam.

You're right, last year was Animal Crossing and Wii Music. Wii Music is a toy, Nintendo has admitted themselves multiple times.

Animal Crossing was Wild World put on the Wii with a few of the features from the original that had been missing. Oh, and a city that you can spend about 5 minutes in every time you play, max. They even ripped the freaking soundtrack from Wild World, for crying out loud.

I'm more worried than ever that Other M is going to turn out like crap. It doesn't seem like anything is going right with Nintendo anymore.

Next year will be a totaly new handheld.
At this rate, I highly doubt that. The last thing they want to do is announce a new handheld and have the sales of the handheld they JUST released slow down.

I don't see the sales lasting long anyways, but they'll probably end up waiting until late next year to announce a totally new handheld.

Wow, and to think I didn't want the Nintendo DSi to be more like PSP. T_T
Yep. I said the same thing when I saw the original DSi announced.

Ehh....if they brought back the GBA slot I'm sure they'd get a lot more sales and people would actually want to buy it and upgrade from there old phats or lites.
Yeah. I would consider buying it if it had a GBA slot again, but clearly the GBA is a thing of a past to them, and even in enlarging the system it's more important that they have non-game-related features than compatibility with another handheld.
(But I'm not getting into a GBA slot debate, I had enough of those when the DSi was released.)

I can imagine a lot of people who bought the DSi are going to be pissed that they spent $170 only to have it one-upped in the next year.

...Okay, I'm pretty down on Nintendo, but you're being paranoid.

Nintendo hates Homebrew/pirating/using their systems in any way they didn't explicitly intend, but they're definitely catering to an older demographic here.

Loooool. I was being a little sarcastic there guys. But in addition to their loss in sales, you must realize the main objective is to seem like their are trying to broaden their demographic while in really buffing up their protection?

Apparently the resolution for the game will remain the same on this new console

Which means that there will be wider gaps between the pixels since the screens are bigger. Get your DS Lite or Phat, and put it up really close to your eyes. I think that's a pretty good estimate of what the image will look like on this new DS, unless they change the resolution.

DSi LL has a 42 inch screen. While the normal DSi is 32 inch.

The DSi LL will have better viewing angle so if looked from diffrent or in groups you will be able to see it better.

It will have a longer battery life.

Also the fat Stylus is only a bonus thing that comes with the DSi LL as it can't actually fit into the stylus slot so the DSi LL will actually be having a normal thin stylus like the DSi that can be slided in on the side, The big version is only a bonus if you want to use it instead of the normal one but it will not fit in the stylus slider hole.

Dark Brown, Wine Red, and Natural White are the other colours that are coming. Comes out in Japan on Novemeber 21st.

Hope thats some extra info people wanted to know.
