FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!A report on Korean gaming site RuliWeb details an alleged interaction between Nintendo customer support in Japan and an individual inquiring about 3DS region locking. The supposed Nintendo Japan support officer specifically spells out, "There are no region codes in DS and DS Lite, but DSi, DSi [XL], and 3DS have region codes. The region codes are installed in each game and the 3DS itself ... you can't play if the region codes are different."
Report: 3DS will be region locked

FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!
Pretty much this.
3DS games will cost more.Wow not one but TWO debbie downers...
First the low battery life and now the region locks...
Any more bad news?![]()
We're not sure yet on the amount.5 bucks at most sans Squeenix.
So we'll see.“We don’t believe that the world is in a state where high priced software will sell well, so we don’t believe it will be in a price range too far off from current DS software.”
Why region lock anyway? What's the benefit?
I'd put strong money on this. We recently had a big thing where a lot of our major retailers were complaining about losing money to online importers and wanting to put a tax on it (which is stupid because the one they wanted would make a $60 game here cost $22 to import instead of $20)I have a couple theories as to why
So gamers in countries with poor yen conversion rates have to pay $500 dollars for a system and $100 for software.
Retailers are putting pressure on game companies so they don't have to compete with foreign retailers.
This x 9,001.Yeah I really don't get why nintendo loves wasting everyone's time with friend codes and crap, they should just make it like Xbox Live where you can just send a friend request to a user, they accept it, and there ya go, you can play with your friend.
Yeah, its really unfortunate. Plus wouldn't it be easier for nintendo anyway to make it like xbox live? Making all of those combinations of numbers probably takes time.Or maybe they don't need much time to make all the combinations, maybe the numbers are randomly generated, but it would still be simpler to make it like Xbox Live. This x 9,001.
It just shows that Nintendo doesn't take online gaming seriously.
Probably. It wouldn't be so bad if you only needed one FC instead of one for each different game. Should be universal like a Steam ID/PSN/XBL GT.Yeah, its really unfortunate. These measures are said by Nintendo to be conscious steps to preserve users' privacy.
I can think of many improvements that Nintendo can implement in a higher quality online system. The main problem for the lack of a good online service is the lack of quality Nintendo games that could really benefit from a higher quality online system.
Plus the fact that the Wii has sold way more units than both the PS3 and 360 despite having the worst online system by far. In Nintendo's eyes, they're doing everything right.
I hope they get rid of friend codes tbh.Nintendo's clumsy method for connecting Wii and Nintendo DS players to others online, the dreaded Friend Code system, may be returning for the Nintendo 3DS if a report from magazine Famitsu is accurate.
According to Andriasang's translation of the report, there's no mention of whether that 3DS Friend Code is still per-game or, more conveniently, universal.
We've asked Nintendo of America for clarification but have not yet received an official response. It's likely that we'll continue to waiting the North American unveiling of the Nintendo 3DS, which happens in New York City on January 19, to get confirmed details.
No, but it will just discourage people like me from playing 3DS games online.I laugh at the "TEH SKY IZ FALLIGN" attitude people seem to have towards FCs. Is it necessarily the best system? Nope. Is it going to make or break anyone's opinion on anything? Hmm, doubt it.
I'd say so. If a game is coming out that utilizes online play I'm less likely to buy it if I have to deal with friend codes. FCs in Wild World were a pain in the *** so I passed on City folk. I stopped buying games on the VC and shop channel when I realized that there was nothing to tie my purchases to me. Does anyone still play Brawl online? Maybe online play and/or features aren't a bid deal to you but they certainly matter to a lot of people.I laugh at the "TEH SKY IZ FALLIGN" attitude people seem to have towards FCs.
