I have literally always been saying she's genuinely a good pick. It's so dumb for her of all characters to be the cuts scapegoat because like...it's not like she replaced any of the cut characters.

People can be mad about the cuts while also liking that Gertie was added. They're two independent events.

Its more that Gertie's an example of poor prioritization, cutting big and popular veterans for wacky, controversial newcomers when they were tight on resources. No, Gertie didn't instantly replace every cut vet, but pushing Gertie but cutting Helga was seen as a poor choice. If there were few to no cut vets (and hopefully some are still in the base game) she would've been much better received.

But given the precedent this sets, I wouldn't be surprised if characters like Spongebob and Aang were gone by NASB4.

One thing I do appreciate about Gertie's inclusion is that she fills a character archetype that isn't really present in many fighting games: an old lady.

... I'm serious, there's REALLY not a lot of old ladies in fighting games lmao.

Just because Nick pushed Gertie doesn't mean they'd be fine with that. SpongeBob is still the star of their most popular show, someone they still like to push.

Now I know he's full of it. There is no way the same executives who gave them the "most bland corporate roster ever" told them to add Gertie.

That aside, she looks like a lot of fun. I wasn't as in to Hey Arnold as other shows, so I don't recognize all her moves, but I think she's a fun pick even if I'd still prefer Arnold get in first.

1. You haven't even seen his gameplay yet, so calling him "genuinely pretty boring" already makes no sense.

2. I mean...attempting to use the literal only Unambiguously Black Character on the roster as a scapegoat is a really ****ing bad look. It's not pulling a "card" to call out what may very well be underlying bigotry.

I think what he's trying to say is that he doesn't want people to shut down criticism of Gerald's moveset just because of his race. Granted, we have no idea what his moveset will be like, so lets not jump to conclusions. But either way I do think he will get the most lukewarm reception out of all of the characters

As much as I hate Gertie's inclusion over so many other picks, I'm glad they picked a fitting stage for her while at the same time being a cool stage choice that's also reoccuring. The Lockjaw episode was one of Gertie's best by far.

The hell is this "What goes around comes around" BS? Do you think the logic behind roster selections is "Ahh yes, we should add Azula to reward all the Azula fans for being good noodles unlike those WRETCHED Zuko fans!" If they did things that way, Jimmy certainly wouldn't have made the roster with all the NASB 1 -immy drama.

I do think it's important to remember that at the end of the day it is just a video game. It's ok to be invested and feel things, but 'it is what it is' and beyond venting a little, a game is to have fun. We can have fun with what there is.

I'll still say that it's ok to want certain characters or for things to be a certain way, it's just that I figure most of us do want to just.. enjoy the game
