Tomorrow is the Mario Kart World Direct. What are you hoping for is revealed?
  • Unrevealed Characters and Costumes?
  • Unrevealed Tracks? Possibly another map not yet shown?
  • Unrevealed Modes?
  • Something out of the ordinary? Amiibo support?

More characters (possibly new guest characters either release or later as DLC), New tracks, and more I can't think of.

I'm fairly certain there is only 1 unrevealed track. Sort of. Intern Kun struck again on that one.

Personally, I'd like to see what their plan for DLC is, and how it'll be implemented into the game. Price wise, I'm hoping it's at least inexpensive. If it isn't, I'll be kinda miffed.

Every racer getting their own amiibo in a Mario Kart line. :wario:
You know they would sell out, especially the cow's Amiibo. 🐮

I wouldn't be against Amiibos giving Main characters or Mii's the full outfit of the Amiibo character though.

The entire Tears of the Kingdom map available as DLC for Mario Kart World, including the sky and the Depths.:4pacman: Though if we get crossover characters again, it'd be nice if Zelda joined Link at the least.

A trailer that starts with Mario vs. Sonic that cuts to Link vs. Cloud that cuts to Samus vs. Master Chief (and then they all converge) as a reveal for the latter would definitely butter my croissant. Especially whenever the choir kicks in.
Greninja vs. Hayabusa! Snake vs. Bill Rizer! Kunio vs. Kiryu!

I'd settle for a Triforce Cup.

Bring back Hyrule Circuit. Add in Lake Hylia, Death Mountain and Garudo Desert Tracks.

But...but...but this is the perfect time to bring back Pokémon Team Turbo! :pokeroll:
sorry, but Nintendo won't pay billions to license to a company that have some percentage of ownership, just to get a PKMN-themed track and maybe some Pokéball wheels.

As for Fire Emblem, there's a small chance to see a Mii Track Suit at best.

Alright so the Mario Kart World is a few hours away, question to you all, - will there be a Baby Pauline after all or not?

Nintendo: "Guys 'cmon, we're gonna have a Mario Kart Direct later. You'll learn all about the game then."

Literally the only new information here is the existence of battle mode.

Honestly I dunno what I expected. I understand that the casual audience may not have seen the Nintendo Treehouse stuff, but I wasn't expecting the direct to be pretty much a complete waste of time if you had.

Did we learn about the Free Roam stuff like Blue Coins, Switch panels and whatnot before? Or the Rewind feature for Free Roam and Solo races? Or the "being able to drive from any one area to any other, including races not included in Grand Prix/Knockout" in Versus Mode? I didn't pay attention to all of the Mario Kart World footage aside from Treehouse, so I don't know if any of those things were revealed beforehand.

But that said,
Pirate Wario.png

We got Pirate Wario from Game & Wario!

C'mon Nintendo, please at least give us the WarioWare outfit.

I love the new traversal mechanics like Power Jump, rail grinding and wall riding.

I don't really have any interest in all the open world stuff though. I never needed that in Mario Kart.

I'm surprised how much classic Mario music is in this.

Re-watching it seems to be a hybrid system like og Mario Kart 8. It's elimination, but you still earn points by hitting opponents

EDIT: This was meant for the Mario Kart World thread and is talking about Balloon battle

I suppose it did reveal a bit more than I noticed at first, though a lot of that I think is just kind of the logical conclusions to things. Some of these things I think were only seen in demos before, so it's definitely a good idea to get all of that info into one place.

It's worth noting that there aren't any versus mode exclusive courses, there are just paths that lead from each track to each adjacent track, some of which Grand Prix and Knockout Tour don't use.

Realizing that if Nintendo actually gets away with selling Mario Kart at $80 then there is a very real chance that they'll try to price the next Smash at $90.

I'm very much considering getting the bundle so I only pay $50 for it...though I'm sure that's still contributing to the problem.

Kinda miffed it doesn't include a physical copy though. That's pretty annoying, though I guess it goes with the trend of physical copies being more and more of a collector's item.

I have said it before and I'll ask again. What do you think about Indie characters and their chances for the next game? So far, Assist Trophy, Spirits and Premium Mii Costumes are the closest they gotten before fighter status.

Of course, some come and go based on their popularity and impact.
imo this is the game where getting an indie fighter moves from possible to pretty plausible. And like everything, if one happens, everyone will immediately start expecting more, but again, like everything, Smash will probably feature that kind of inclusion gradually.

Smash ain't bigger than Mario Kart.

Games I expect to sell at $80:
Mario Kart
Smash Bros.
Next Gen Pokemon games
Mainline Zelda
3D Mario
Animal Crossing
Splatoon 4
If the Mario Party port is $80 they're probably not going to be that restrictive :/

Though maybe with all the backlash they'll move some of the more questionable ones down and just keep the biggest like those

Also Thwomp is the one character that has appeared in every Mario Kart game, but has never been playable.

Justice for Thwomp!
I’d rather have a driving Whomp

$80 Animal Crossing would genuinely make me cry

I already said I wouldn't approve of having to pay $60 for SSBU again and then $30 for a pass exclusive to it. Now I gotta worry about paying $90 either way.

If Smash 6 is really coming in 2027-9 then it’s already too late in my opinion for Meowscarada or even Gen 9 in general unless it’s late generation pick such as Ogrepon.

It’s probably Gen 10 or even 11 unless they break cycle of picking an early development Pokemon.
The first three Smash games had at least two new pokemon each. If the next Smash game has large enough a roster, I could see them doing the same thing again - a Gen 10 pokemon and then a "throwback" character from one of the Switch games.

Between the fairly blatant WarioWare/Land references and one of Yoshi's costumes essentially being Boshi, i think the odds are the best they've ever been that we get characters from the Mario RPGs. This joyifies me.

Don't worry, Smash will only be $80!*

*plus $7 for each dlc fighter, and $20 per amiibo. Online Functions require Nintendo Switch Online.

Smash being 80$ does seem likely now that Mario Kart set the Precedent for games to be sold that much base. At the very least, I no longer worry about relicensing a lot of 3rd Parties being a big issue. If the pie is 20-30% bigger than it was before, there's more room to make a couple extra slices for royalties to whoever is brought back/introduced.

It's kinda weird how budget and its potential to limit scope is so prevalent in relation to a project as big as Smash, but I guess that's just the nature of a series like this.

That depends on why the price increased.

Tariffs, inflation, and straight up greed might bump up those price numbers up a bit. That also goes for possible third party licensing.

Genuinely glad you mentioned this, because I think people seem to forget the actual costs involved when you consider stuff like DLC or online play - sure, they're not necessary, but a lot of people are going to go for them regardless.

As a point of comparison; Ultimate is $60 for the base game, featuring $25 and $30 DLC packs, and there's a $20 cost for the base NSO subscription. So, in practice, a "complete" copy of Ultimate's already $135. Makes you wonder how far it'll get stretched next time...

...at least its not as bad as The Sims 4?

Assuming the 5 character $25 Pass is going to be the norm and we get 2 passes...$150?

Yeah pricing it 20$ more doesn't necessarily mean they're getting 20$ more profit per copy compared to the previous game. Surely they're not, as development costs have been rising even before factoring in the current global trade situation. Also remember selling something at a higher price point means you're selling less copies, but getting more per copy you sell, so for them it's just a matter of estimating the price point which will maximize profits. Now, I don't know what model they had that spit out the current prices as the optimal numbers, but we'll find out soon enough if they overshot.

Mario Kart World looks great, but they didn’t bring back Shine Thief, which was my favorite battle mode, it not being here is my biggest disappointment.
I didn't get much that I didn't already know from like Treehouse footage and stuff in that Direct when I watched it after I woke up, but I'm pretty sure they said something about Balloon Battle eliminating you when you run out of balloons, which I'm actually surprisingly hype about because it hasn't worked that way since like DS? Every game since then I think went with the point system rather than elimination style lol

Also kinda funny that they're keeping the "you can use racetracks as Battle courses" but they're ALSO putting in Battle courses like Big Donut, plus I heard the Double Dash battle theme remixed in there and I saw someone in a group I'm in mention they heard Chain Chomp Wheel remixed?

It sort of happened once after DS.

The original version of Mario Kart 8 was actually a hybrid; you could get eliminated, at which point you would turn into a ghost who can still cause chaos with items but can no longer gain points, but the highest scoring player would be the victor, even if they themselves were eliminated.

I imagine it'll be the same for World but it'd be really cool if Last Racer Standing was an option.
