As some of us know, The Witcher started as a novel series and Turok started as a comic book. But some others now consider them as video game series, probably because they were more successful as video games, but still that doesn't change their debut and for that reason some want the characters from these two series in the Super Smash Bros. series, something that will never happen.

I dunno, it's kinda hard to say whether this would 100% deconfirm them. We have gray area characters in Smash already. ROB isn't really a video game character, he's a peripheral. Duck Hunt's a weird hybrid between characters and peripheral (their smash attacks are supposed to be coming from someone using an NES zapper). Dracula is first and foremost a literary character, and probably more well-known for his literary and film appearances than his Castlevania one. Yet, the Castlevania iteration of the character is what's used as a boss. Lucario first appeared in the anime before debuting in the games, but that didn't stop him from getting in. To say nothing of the fact that Pikachu and Jigglypuff also wouldn't be notable if not for the anime (they're simply rare encounters in a couple early areas, it's honestly kinda comical how missable they are in Red and Blue, and how they're not even that strong for being so rare).

That said, I'd be surprised to get any characters from The Witcher or Turok in Smash, simply because I strongly doubt either series is high up on the priority list to add.

Hell yes. Big Trails fan here and it is a damn shame that it is never ever talked about when it comes to JRPG discussion in smash just like SMT. It's always the 3rd FF7 character or the 2nd Persona character or Geno.

Which is crazy, because Estelle and trails actually has a fighting game (along with the Ys series)

Lowkey surprised they did not package all three Trails of the Sky games together and port them to modern systems. All three games are on steam (and are cool!) but it is surprising we have not seen a modern port yet.

Trails would be sick in Smash, if only so we can Trojan Horse in a metric ton of Falcom music. I will probably make an effortpost later about how good Falcom music is and why that alone is why Falcom should get a character. It is that good.

If not, then might as well just go with another character like Randi from Secret of Mana.

A reminder that Sakurai had to constantly adjust the open part of Palutena's dress constantly until CERO was satisfied, to the point where even Sakurai pointed how much he had to adjust it and how ridiculous it was to have to adjust so many times. CERO is apparently very picky, especially in regards to female crotch shots.

And they won't do Randi. Not Sumo. Not Duran. Not even Hawke. If a Mana character is chosen, it would 100% be Riesz. She's easily the most popular Mana character. She was one of Square's very popular characters in Japan who's popularity was almost as much as Tifa's and lasted a long time even after her game's release. And while it would slowly disappear, her popularity would revive and greatly revitalise after the Trials of Mana Remake.

I remember Trails getting a ton of talk on here a few years back, same with Ys. So I wouldn't say it's never talked about. Additionally, when it does come up here, everyone has overwhelmingly positive things to say about it. I’d be happy with any CO from Advance Wars to make the jump to playable. Someone like Sami or Nell would be just as fine for me. If I had to choose, I’d choose Sami personally just because I think she’d visually pop the best compared to the rest of the cast.

We would probably get Andy if we got any CO, but I’d personally prefer Sami. I’d be happy AW getting any Smash content tbh because the series is super neat.

Falcom is one of those companies that is lowkey yet has a strong enough legacy to make an argument for getting in Smash. Adol is my personal pick but you can never go wrong with picking someone from Trails as well.

Andy is the most, let's say, "emblematic" of the Advance Wars cast. He's a perfect fit personality-wise to rep the series in Smash, with his carefree approach to battle, alongside being the obvious lead out of the trio with Max and Sami.
Given that IS lets Sakurai choose, for example, between Robin and Chrom, I doubt we'd get a Min-Min situation where a specific character gets requested by the creator.

Moveset-wise, I get that people like the idea of Sami as a commando/soldier type. And, yeah, Sami would be cool as a second rep if the series was ever fortunate enough to get one, but Andy just fits much better with the way I envision the first AW rep working.
I assume an AW rep would have some mechanics involving summoning in the various AW units to attack for them, and Andy being an all-arounder would be slightly more in-character doing this than someone like Sami, who is an infantry specialist. I feel Andy's wrenches are also an underestimated part of his potential, as they can help fill out a lot of the non-special basic melee moves, especially in a way that doesn't draw too much attention away from the main concept of the moveset while still spicing things up in comparison to other fighters. Yeah, Sami has a gun, but this would have to be implemented carefully or not at all if in conjunction with unit summoning; like, why summon a mini-tank to fire at my opponent if I am just going to fire my own gun at them myself?

Not that she couldn't work or that her potential issues couldn't be resolved in some way, but I feel Sami translates a little less naturally to a "represent all of Advance Wars moveset" and would have to be catered more towards representing herself and herself alone, if that makes sense. Probably because she's one of the more unique playstyles in the source material, and in fact one of the COs that tends to wildly alter how both players play the game. If we're looking for a moveset that aims to represent the series as a whole for its one and presumably only rep, then Andy is a more sensible pick IMO.

More succinctly, "Andy is the main character and fits so perfectly well on his own that there's really no need to look for anyone else."

Nell would be a weird choice. She's less important than Andy and Sami, and her main thing is getting extra luck damage, which would be a funny gimmick but not really what I'd look at for a "first and probably only rep who well-represents the series as a whole." Though I feel that with her they could lean even harder into the whole "let my troops do the work for me as I don't have any real weapons of my own" kind of thing.

All this said, any AW playable rep in Smash would have to be considered a major win for the series. Though I'd be disappointed if it wasn't Andy.

Outside Geno and Shadow, not sure if i have a top most wanted list. Smash these days has taught that having favourites leave to you to up to be desired and 90% burned by deconfirmations so i really don't have a strong wish list.

Idk if that's a good or bad thing.

I would say also Rayman, Black Mage, Jack Frost, Rival Octoling, Decidueye, Android 21 or probably Magalor are characters that would be nice in Smash.

Her Bo Rod would definitely make her unique, but I thought of another way to do so; S-Breaks. In Trails of the Sky, your characters have special attacks called Crafts with various effects. When your Craft Points are above 100 or higher, you can click on the red orb next to their HUD to perform an S-Craft in the middle of their turn (called in the game S-Breaks).

I was thinking that the Smash version of S-Breaks could translate into charging one special move at a time (with the attack being indicated by the color of the orb next to Estelle’s HUD) but still being able to use the uncharged versions of the special moves that aren’t charged. This is loosely based on how Arts work, where the user takes a turn to charge.

The R.O.B. as is known, it is not from any video game, but it is related to nintendo since it is his creation, but still give him his own stage and i think a stage based on Gyromite would be just right for R.O.B.. I'm also partly thinking about a stage based on Stack-Up, although I don't think that's what anyone would prefer, but I also thought about a stage based on both. But this with Gyromite seems more likely to me.

R.O.B uses Gyros in its moveset, so I'm inclined to think Gyromite would be its home stage if it got one, yeah.

My favorite Falcom music is the CD-quality versions of their early stuff like Ys and Dragon Slayer, the versions you'd hear on stuff like the PC Engine. They're arranged in a rock/fusion style that goes extremely hard and was very distinct from a lot of other early JRPGs that went for more of the orchestral feel. This is a style that permeated a lot of these JP game companies' house bands during the 80s and early 90s, stuff like the SST Band, ZUNTATA and sure enough, Falcom's very own JDK Band, and it's awesome.
