As far as the niche franchise getting a new entry, is Star Fox still too well known to be considered for that category despite its declining sales? There is some precedent for Nintendo home consoles getting SF games near the final years (Assault in 2005, Zero in 2016, almost SF2 in 1995) so a Star Fox release around this time isn't that out there.

I mean, when the only Wario Land content in Smash Bros. is the one main theme from Wario Land Shake it, where else are you going to categorise it without a Wario Land category?.....😔
They had 3 games to just put in Greenhorn Forest as a Wario song and didn't do it.
That's like his theme! How is it not in after all this time?

For all we know everything that isn't like... Mario, Zelda, AC, Pokemon, Splatoon, Smash, DK, and probably Kirby could qualify. It's based on the perception of the leaker and what they see as "somewhat niche" yet "big".

I would argue Star Fox fits somewhat niche yet big (for the Nintendo crowd) very well, but I don't think it's SF. I think if there is a SF in development, Nintendo isn't putting it on a system that is actively being replaced. I think they want to give it more of a chance than that in terms of longevity and promotion.

Maybe Fire Emblem but that series could still be considered niche depending on how it’s defined.

Will people bring "Characters from F2P games origin can't become fighters" fanrule? Fortnite, Genshin, etc
Not only would it be broken by Fortnite, but Fire Emblem Heroes can also break that rule(and then people go "3rd Party characters from F2P games origin can't become fighters").

That said, even if Fire Emblem Heroes didn't get a playable character, I'd still love to see some content for it like the music, an Assist Trophy, a stage or even the Breidablik as a Pokeball-like item for Fire Emblem characters.

I want it to not be a fan rule just for the sake of using FEH and all the Pokemon mobile spinoffs as a way to get reps from their older games.

If they haven't yet, probably not. People weren't stoked on the idea of a Fortnite character in Smash but no one was saying it couldn't happen on the grounds of being F2P. And if people aren't using that excuse for a character so unwanted as, like, Jonesy, clearly it's not widespread.

Besides, Nintendo has released F2P games themselves, so it would be a little hypocritical.

I think my biggest issues with Jonesy are that he looks kind of boring visually and I don’t know much of anything about his story or personality. He kind of gives off the impression of a blank slate avatar but I could be way off. Fortnite’s definitely popular enough that he’s earned consideration. If his moveset is fun, I’d be perfectly fine seeing him in Smash.

I don’t see why they couldn’t. If people love the games and the characters, that should be all that matters. I don’t care to play F2P games myself but some have pretty cool lore based on shows I’ve seen.
I feel like the only video game characters that could have issues are ones that are from non-video game franchises such as KOTOR (Knights of the Old Republic) and maybe even The Witcher since not that many people are aware that it started as a novel series.

It will probably be a Hero situation where it wouldn't be just Jonesy but every alt is a different skin because they're mostly aesthetic in Fortnite. There is lot of original skins so copyright wouldn't be an issue.

Alternatively, we could see Jonesy's various outfits over the course of the games story, he's had a lot.

It was talked about earlier, but ideally if Jonesy is playable they'll add some of the quirkier skins. Part of the charm I've seen if the game is how silly it can be, and skins like Peely, Meowscles, and Fishsticks are popular/recurring skins that the franchise constantly uses and would help highlight that aspect.

I like these designs quite a bit actually, particularly Adanna. I have no idea if either are prominent characters in Fortnite but they do look cool and they’d help give Smash some diversity.
they really aren't important to anything, but at this point reoccurring characters of relevant interest are basically down to Jonesy, Peely, and I guess Hope?

...it's not worth making sense of this game's story because it's so obvious when things get sidelined because they have to pour all their resources into making the game whatever Epic thinks the definition of metaverse is this year.

From what I've heard it's a simulation that kidnaps and lobotomizes people from just about every universe in existence so they can watch people fight...

Oddly dark, but in a way that feels like a copout to explain how literally every crossover is cannon rather than an interestingly dark Kirby lore sort of way.

Yeah, Master Chief, Kratos, the Avengers and the Street fighter gang have been integral to the plot before after being kidnapped from their worlds

Jonesy personally being the guy who dragged Ryu and Chun-Li here.

I have seen few people arguing why Nintendo won't pick Fortnite on this ground. Of course, their claim was shaky.

It's a bit more complicated than that, but from what I remember they're not really "lobotimized", more like they lose their memories/powers after entering the Loop and fight each other constantly as a safety measure for the Zero Point, which could destroy the entire multiverse if it's messed with. Heck, once you leave the Loop, you don't even truly "leave" it: while you do get your memories back and are able to explore more freely, the Loop creates a Snapshot of you to take your place inside the Loop to keep things going. That's the in-universe explaination for why multiple of the same skins can appear in a single match.

A few hours ago a rumor surfaced about the announcement of a "last big Nintendo Switch game" from a niche franchise and it is NOT a remaster. Which one could it be?
My bets are either Rythm Paradise or Golden Sun. Camelot hasn't released anything for four years and until now they were releasing games every 2/3 years. Rythm Paradise usually comes out relatively late in each generation.
Might as well be Donkey Kong yet again at this point. Probably not though lol

I hope for Golden Sun. Should technically be possible since Camelot has gone quiet for a while. Not getting my hopes up however.

I feel it will happen but in the middle of the Switch 2 since Retro is almost done working on Prime 4.
They probably will be tasked to do another platformer in the same style they did before. Pretty sure of it. I just had hoped there would've been something else in the meanwhile.

Metroid fans might've complained about the lack of Prime and whatever else, but at least there where steady other projects coming out. Metroid Dread being the most successful game yet.

Donkey Kong shamefully doesn't have that. Yeah I know I complain a lot about it. But I just wish they expanded Retro Studios to the point of being able to handle DKC and Metroid Prime at the same time. So steady releases for both can continuously happen.

With steady releases I mean at least one every decade or so.

I'd keep it excluded, there are plenty of people who would still be under the impression that series is niche.

Idk, Metroid has two developers, what's stopping DK from having more than one?

Nintendo themselves probably. I really don't know. There's no good explanation. And I don't know if those rumors of a 3D DK game by Vicarious Visions are true or not.

What if the new game is actually another Famicom Detective Game? They seem easy to make.

Even if they are easy to make, I'd be surprised to see one so soon. Emio just came out last August, so it's not even been five months since it released.

So, what do you all want from the next Smash Bros.?
  • Would love to see the "everyone is here" back again for the next Smash Bros.
  • New characters, stages and music.
  • Unique "Break the Targets" and perhaps the return of "Board the Platforms."
You know what's another franchise I'm hoping Nintendo will bring back for the Switch 2?

Pilotwings
I'm personally hoping for the likes of F-Zero, 1080 Snowboarding and Wave Race for me.

I’ve been hoping for the return of Board the Platforms since Melee, I want Race to the Finish to come back as well. I miss the fun little side modes.

Same here. I had a fun idea that I shared a while back that could really help. What if they improved Stage Builder and gave players a setting at the start that would allow everyone to create and share their own side mode stages? Like, there would be a menu before you started creating that let you choose between a normal stage, Break the Targets, Board the Platforms, and Race to the Finish. That would really add a lot of replay value for fans that want something beyond just endless Vs matches.
