Smash Hero
I was just reiterating what Sakurai said.Considering DLC was "finalized" in November of 2018, well before Three Houses would release, yeah, promotion was the key factor. They just made sure the character was part of Smash AFTER release of the game.
Certainly promotion was at least one of the relevant factors here, I agree with that, but Byleth’s inclusion doesn’t seem as simple as “we want people to buy the game” and is guided at least in part by what I had mentioned. At least if Sakurai is to be believed here and this isn’t just PR… which like, I’m not gonna speculate on that really. But he does follow up with this. For this fighter, an important factor was being able to turn the protagonist of a game that people are playing right now into a fighter that players could experience immediately in Smash Bros. As such, I tried my hand at working on the character while the source game was still in development.
I’d say both things are likely true. Just that discussion of “promo character” is often working off the bare minimum of “this character is from a newer game = Nintendo wants to sell” and I wanted to offer a little more of a good faith perspective.I’m not exactly aware of what Nintendo’s future release plans are, so I go along with what they decide. It just so happens that the timing was right with Three Houses’ completion.
