Not to pour fuel on the fire because I do understand the concerns, but I also think there's something to be said about a character that has a large female fanbase for their games, like Phoenix Wright, being in. It's important in it's own way.
I mean, we did just get Ace Attorney 6 three years ago, so it hasn't really been that long..and Japan got that spin-off sequel set in the past in 2017 too, so only 2 years ago technically.
It's weird to me that people think this is any kind of wait when I remember the pain and uncertainty of AAI2 not being localized and fearing that we would never get an AA5 and if we did that it would never be localized.

if its ubisoft im highkey calling rabbids

didn't rabbids pretty much destroy the rayman line of games until origins, anyway? it's like they took over the series, especially since the sequel.
Sakurai tends to respect the icons, though. We got Mega Man before X or Zero, Simon is the face of the Castlevania content in Smash, etc. Rayman also has consistently strong ballot results and the Rayman-centric games ended up coming back anyways.
Personally I’m not really a big fan of Ubisoft but after seeing someone else put forward Rayman it made a lot of sense to me.

Getting at least one girl as DLC would be cool but I don't think it's a hill I want to die on. Same with first parties.

Does anyone have a different trend they want FP character 5 to break? Personally, I'd welcome a new franchise, considering Persona, DQ, Banjo-Kazooie and Fatal Fury are all over 20 years old (with really only Persona focusing on recent content).

Does Doom Slayer break any trends? :p
He's tied with Crash for my current most wanted.

Another modern IP. Nier Automata. Or riot.

Rabbids are, IMO, as equally substantial as Rayman. Either one or the other would do the job just as fine.

Now obviously true epic gamers who would play any game that isn't Fire Emblem-- or isn't anime sword RPG filth of course :secretkpop:-- would prefer Rayman but I used to be obsessed with those little ****ers so I'm biased and probably ignorant.

Is Doom Slayer all you think about (as well as Crash)? Geez, I appreciate dedication, but you don't have to bring him up like, 5 messages in.

Perhaps the same could be said of me and my female wants.

I mean, he IS both my most wanted and most speculated newcomer.
Kinda like Banjo-Kazooie before, but I got them, so onto the next one. :p

If I get a female character, and it's not my most wanted, I'll be happy, but my treatment of her depends. Cool concept and design (KOS-MOS)? New main (so I can safely drop Wolf or Palutena in case she gets nerfed). Other than that? I'll pocket. But I'll still work to support other females, though it won't be demanding as this time.

If I get a female character, and it's the Holy Grail of my wants (Morrigan), I'll be so happy, I'll trade all my mains for her, and I'll never ask Sakurai for anything ever again. I'll still be speculating though, in case a franchise I like gets in. Case in point...Guilty Gear (Sol Badguy for Smash! Looking at you Cutie Gwen Cutie Gwen ). Also, I will safely let future DLC be male.

Yeah I'd like to see some more modern IP's as well.

Closest thing we have is Persona, but like you said, that's mainly because it focuses more on its more recent boom of popularity.

If I adopted your mindset, had we gotten a female character, I'll still be a ***** since she's not Morrigan.

You don't have to riot every time Smash fails to meet your expectations.

The original NieR was released in 2009. Drakengard 1 was released in 2003. I want 2B as well (she's my new pipe dream now that Joker somehow got in) but the Drakennier series is only "new" in that it came out after the 90s.
That's still new by Smash standards, considering people go "EW, PROMOTION!" for any character younger than a decade.

You can't deny that was why they put Shulk in.
Only female characters fit that role, and there are very few male characters I would play. All of you guys get your plethora of male dlc characters that you’re so satisfied with, well us that like female characters should get some of what we want too.
This is a very distorted way of thinking. But whatever gfy

You're saying Shulk was added to promote a 3DS port instead or recognizing how successful and critically acclaimed the original XC was?

That's the game I meant. They had to remind everyone it existed so they had an excuse to make a sequel

Hell, the top 2 of My original top 10 are already in. Where's my legion of followers asking me what my sources are saying?

Your point
If you're wondering what my point is, I don't have one. I was just making a joke. If you're wondering what I'm referring to, I can do that. This was posted a few pages back.

I mean, he could have been promoting Xenoblade Chronicles X, but that game wasn't a sequel. I'd be more likely that he was promoting Xenoblade Chronicles 3D, but that's just a port. Also, the fact that the port exist is highly indicative of it's popularity, as it was fan demand that got the title localized in the first place. There's no way we'd see Shulk in Super Smash Bros. or the port of the game without the efforts of the people running project...I don't remember what they called it but it was a real campaign. Look it up if you're interested in that kind of stuff.

Nah man, no-one cared about Shulk until he was in Smash, where he was an obscure character who stole a slot from my most wanted. He's obviously just a promotional pick.

You're talking about Operation Rainfall right? Still crazy to me that Xenoblade is the only one of those 3 games to have any staying power

Oh I agree despite never playing them but it's really strange to me that only 1 out of the 3 managed to stay. Shame too, heard great things about Last Story
From what I recall, I mostly heard people talking more about Xenoblade over the other two back when the whole Operation Rainfall thing was going on. I suppose it was overall the game that had the most interest/priority over the other two from fans.

Then again, I wasn't really following the whole movement all that closely so it might just be me...

Well, Last Story has a pretty good. . . well, story. Characters are also all pretty fun. The combat system was rather basic though, and could have done with some more depth. But honestly the best part was the game's online versus multiplayer, with its "pick a set of lines from the game"-chat and horrible balance.
Though on the other hand, that online multiplayer was probably also why the game never got a rerelease on the Wii U eShop.

The only newer series I could see fitting in Smash are Overwatch & Undertale. I’d say Shovel Knight, but he’s an assist trophy sadly.

Honestly, I feel like the "newer series" clamor is weird, considering most of people's wishlists tend to be composed of older characters. Even stuff like Minecraft or (shameless shill) League of Legends are close to, or a little over 10 years old.

It's like the "western reps" thing: people were saying that a lot, but when they actually compared character wishlists, most were still Japanese, so... yeah, I dunno.

Heck, even 2B, which is one of my most wanted picks... she may have debuted as a character not too long ago, but her series is 10 years old, even older if you're bringing Drakengard into the mix, as Flyboy Flyboy pointed out.

I think when people talk "newer series" they mean franchises created in this century, as in, from 2000 to now.

I don't have much interest in most franchises from 2010 onwards myself...

Bayonetta is pretty much the only third party franchise that wasn't born in the 90s or 80's as far as I'm aware.

I'd like to seesome characters from already-represented series. While there are a few exceptions (Maxwell, Phoenix Wright, Frisk), the majority of my most wanted characters come from old series.

New series aren't a problem to, though what matters is the purpose.

PSABR is an example of this. The versions of Raiden, Dante, and the content given by Big Daddy were all made to promote upcoming games. Third-parties that were added for their legacy have more impact to Smash compared to other similar types.

I swear that if we get Phoenix, we better also get an Edgeworth alt. Having one without the other would be stupid.

Also give me Homeless Phoenix alt.

My bets are still on a Namco Bandai character; it would also explain why there are no solid leaks on FP5. That said I do love AA.

On the subject of Nier, new franchises, and female reps:

Season 2 is going to be so hype.
Definitely my most-wanted modern era character, just edging out a Three Houses rep despite me having more personal love for that game (for now - when I get a Nintendo card for my birthday it's all over for me). Such a beautiful aesthetic and cool design.
