Terry on the 6th? That possibly lines up with the Phoenix leak saying we'll get FP5 (Being Phoenix Wright) with Terry and Terry releasing on the 6th. Hopefully it's true as Phoenix would be an absolutely amazing character but it could just as easily be a lucky guess.

It's mostly coincidence. Phoenix is just a lucky guest. The higher-ups haven't outright said anything yet.

Phoenix Wright, Reimu or Kos-Mos. At this point I'm hoping for either one of them to close off the Fighter Pass so we can move on. If it's Phoenix Wright then I'm officially retiring from speculation out of pure joy another one of my dream wants finally made it to Smash Bros. If it's Kos-Mos, great! Although I've yet to get her in XBC2 or played the original Xenosaga games, she's definitely a welcome addition to Smash's roster if you ask me. If it's Reimu, then one of the craziest speculator dreams has come true again with Touhou joining and being celebrated in Smash Bros.

This is like that Terry/Ryu Hayabusa leak that described the Terry trailer as a redux of the Incineroar one.

Final Fantasy music seems to be non-JASRAC. It makes the absence of FF tracks baffling because DQ music would probably be more difficult to acquire due to having to work with JASRAC on royalties and the what-not. How come Nintendo could only get two songs for Final Fantasy when they got more songs for Dragon Quest from JASRAC?

The rights for FF7 contents in general was always a mess to begin with. DQ musics aren't that strict. They are often used in random TV shows. JASRAC usually takes margin via a percentage of every copy's profit so that's why they'll get expensive for products like full-price games. If just for one-time use like a TV show or a concert, then the cost won't be ridiculously high.

Only woman I would be opposed to off the top of my head is Edelgard, if only because I vastly prefer Dimitri as a character and representative of 3 Houses and I doubt Sakurai's going to add all four main characters in Smash.
Plus Smash already has a decent amount of women and Claude would help diversify the sheer amount of white/Japanese characters in the cast.

Don't you think that's... I dunno, a little close minded to base your satisfaction or dissatisfaction of a character based solely on their gender? I get that we all want a female character in the Pass, I mean a lot of us do, but we want the characters in because of the character they are. Not because of their gender. Yeah, their gender plays a role in what their character is but I just feel basing your satisfaction on that specific agenda alone and being proactively disappointed if they aren't female just seems like a recipe for disappointment in general.

Yeah, it's not the biggest IP compared to others of its kind, but I'd say DMC has at least a fair degree of recognizably amongst the general gaming audience.

I mean there's no reason there can't be both.
But if you're looking at quotas to fill, there's already a decent amount of unique, playable women in Smash whereas PoC are relegated to Inkling/Villager alts and possibly Ganondorf. If push comes to shove, I would rather focus on race than gender if I'm choosing characters for diversity.

You're barking up the wrong tree, dude. I tried to convince her to not be upset if the fifth fighter isn't female (mostly because I'm a solid 40 or 50% sure it's Doom Slayer), but she is the type that relates to the characters, which is a perfectly valid perspective.
I generally play Mario because his games are my favorite of the ones represented in Smash, though I do SOMEWHAT relate to him as a hero that doesn't have flashy armor but does what he can to protect his friends.
I'm personally satisfied with any character. Hell, I couldn't have cared less for Terry, but now I'm just eagerly awaiting the new character like a new toy.

I've always abided by the belief that judging someone based on their gender is wrong. Personally I feel it's also rather shallow.

Ultimately the meritocracy Smash typically operates as is a system as color and gender-blind as you'll get, even if the results may not immediately appear as such. If all the DLC happened to be male, or if all the DLC happened to be female, as long as they all merit inclusion, I'd be fine with it.

The real issue is the inequality in gender when it comes to protagonists in gaming. Smash exists as a reflection of the medium, and unfortunately it's only a relatively recent development that companies realized there can be lucrative protagonists past white males and cartoon animals.

I mean, we did just get Ace Attorney 6 three years ago, so it hasn't really been that long..and Japan got that spin-off sequel set in the past in 2017 too, so only 2 years ago technically.

That's not what I was saying. What I was saying was that, from the mindset that you're coming from since you have said you've yet to buy the Pass, you've said to yourself since the beginning of the Pass, "if this character isn't Female, I'm disappointed" even before knowing who that character was, correct? Doesn't that seem like you're just setting yourself up for disappointment? Each time saying "if this character isn't Female, I'm disappointed" all the way up to this point? 5 characters in? I'm genuinely curious.

And if you're really contemplating that, then you understand where the problem lies and it doesn't really lie with Smash. It lies with the industry as a whole. In that grand scheme Smash is more well off with Female representation than most games.

I do think Ubisoft have more potential than people want to consider. Rayman with a Mario&Rabbids stage for instance would be a mix of “western game icon and relevant Nintendo release” that gives them an edge over the likes of Bethesda or Blizzard. Similar to Microsoft/Rare getting BK in, really.

I am also on the side of “no female, no buy”(with a couple of exceptions), but for a different reason. It’s not about agendas or representation, I just heavily prefer playing characters that are attractive or appealing to me. Only female characters fit that role, and there are very few male characters I would play. All of you guys get your plethora of male dlc characters that you’re so satisfied with, well us that like female characters should get some of what we want too.

I would be very surprised, when fighter 5 is one more a western rep. It is unlikely to me. After fighter pass it is more probably to me. That counts for random pics like piranha plant or new Nintendo fighters.
