Thing is, I just feel like I'll be left out. You'll guys will get hyped over "x male character"while I'm here contemplating on why the industry is this harsh to women amd representation.

If say "there's more DLC", then I have no hopes for it.

My boycott, my say.
I never understood the political aspect of Smash representation. If you like a character, you like a character. You don't like a character, you don't like a character. That's all Smash advertising is about and how it's been for 20 years. Maybe that's how you feel about the current DLC, that you don't like the recent newcomers and that's fine. Just never understood why we need to tie politics in a crossover game where the entire point is the series and not the gender.

And for the record, we get it's your boycott and you can do whatever you want with your money, but you keep bringing it up like it adds value to any discussion here. It doesn't and just sounds like complaining whenever possible.

I swear that if we get Phoenix, we better also get an Edgeworth alt. Having one without the other would be stupid.

Also give me Homeless Phoenix alt.

My bets are still on a Namco Bandai character; it would also explain why there are no solid leaks on FP5. That said I do love AA.
Edgeworth would be amazing but I feel like he’s got to be echo of Phoenix instead of an alt costume. It makes perfect sense for him and Phoenix to share a moveset, but just like :ultdaisy: or:ultdarksamus: Edgeworth caries himself in a much different manner than his base.

If Edgeworth is in he needs to come with his iconic finger wag and bow.

On the subject of Nier, new franchises, and female reps:

Season 2 DLC is going to be so hype.
Has Astral Chain not gotten a spirit yet?

We'd definitely get a red Phoenix suit color if he got in. Not sure about Homeless Phoenix as a costume though.

Nope, no Astral Chain spirits yet. Or Three Houses for that matter. Only new games to have spirits this year are NSMB Deluxe (Peachette), Link’s Awakening remake, and Daemon X Machina (which is actually developed by Marvelous AQL, not Nintendo)

I know who we're getting for DLC then.

Also Tetris 99 if the spirit event post is anything to go by.

Getting at least one girl as DLC would be cool but I don't think it's a hill I want to die on. Same with first parties.

Does anyone have a different trend they want FP character 5 to break? Personally, I'd welcome a new franchise, considering Persona, DQ, Banjo-Kazooie and Fatal Fury are all over 20 years old (with really only Persona focusing on recent content).
Im still going for a RPG Namco character for fighter 5.

I kinda expect Chosen Undead or Solaire to be coming from Namco and lowkey hoping for KOS-MOS. If we get someone from Tales, most likely we would get Lloyd, Yuri or heck maybe even Velvet who are on the newer scale of character.

Find the aversion to newer games or franchises funny.
If you're wondering what my point is, I don't have one. I was just making a joke. If you're wondering what I'm referring to, I can do that. This was posted a few pages back.

So that's the full list people were referring to, gotta say it looks suspicious as hell. It has 40 freaking characters that mostly contains highly speculated characters and was made after Joker, absence of Pokemon is most likely explained by the dude not knowing any Pokemon final evo name.

Realistically only people who have access to any list like that if it exists would be Sakurai and Nintendo higher ups and I doubt it would contain 40 characters.

Female Rep? Namco Rep?

I've said it before, but now I've actually done another one of these things.

Granted, that's not the ideal image to rep her, but easily-cleanable images are few-and-far-between and I am le tired...

It's a huge moneymaker, covers several niches Smash is missing, and would be a fun surprise.
And I didn't even really scratch the surface in terms of possible spirits and music. Series is massive now.

So what, we're gonna argue if race or gender is more important when choosing a character solely for diversity?
I wouldn't say either is more important than the other. But one is already much more represented than the other.

Either way, the correct answer is Shantae.

I know it doesn't look solid right now but I just haven't looked into Terry yet and the only thing I can see towards Terry is SNK heroines. There is nothing for Joker but I just need to look into this because I have a feeling there is a connection between Dragon Quest and Banjo Kazooie advertising to Doom's advertising. I'll have to get back to you on this.

I have no idea who this character is.

Last night I had a dream the Smash website updated again and the placeholder pages had a bunch of weird codenames for future fighters. Everyone made fun of Terry's for being super long. It was like "Burningwildwolf" or something. There were hints at Solaire ("FromSoft") and Cuphead (literally "Cuphead") and no one cared because of how long Terry's codename was. Everyone was too busy roasting it.

Now this is the kind of outside-the-box thinking I like to see.

Definitely my most-wanted modern era character, just edging out a Three Houses rep despite me having more personal love for that game (for now - when I get a Nintendo card for my birthday it's all over for me). Such a beautiful aesthetic and cool design.
It was a day 1 purchase for me, and the combat has a touch of Okami, Mad World, Bayonetta, Metal Gear Rising, and Nier Automata, but it's also its own thing, and it is so awesome (particular when the game stops holding your hand after the second chapter). And yeah, the game looks gorgeous; I dig the cyberpunk aesthetic. I also like how the characters look straight out of Xenoblade X lol. The mundane police activities and detective stuff is neat; you solve crimes, and you're penalized for crossing the street wrong and destroying public property. The music isn't bad either (there are a couple of catchy songs and a few that really stand out). There's nothing remotely like it in Smash.

But most importantly, that moveset. Officer Howard alone has a motorcycle and a stun baton that transforms into a sword and a laser gun. Now... add the five summonable Legions they're attached to that each have their own weapons/abilities (one that you can ride inside of, and another that you can ride on top of), that help you maneuver around and tie down/trip/catapult enemies, and you have a recipe for fun.

If anybody interested in it, here is the presentation material for Nintendo’s Investors Relations event today.

Not too much to discuss here in terms of Smash bros. but it gives us a look into Nintendo’s strategies and plans for the holiday season. It restates how important evergreen titles (such as Smash) are to the momentum of the system and that the female consumer base of the system is expanding especially with the Switch Lite.

Let's kill two birds with one stone with a 1st Party female like Dixie Kong.
As far as timing goes, the content they'd provide, and their reception from the general public, if we got a 1st party female character to combo break the season 1 pass, I don't think anything could top Elma.

From what I've gathered, a lot of people who've never played X agree that she looks cool, and like her dual gun/sword wielding concept. She was probably considered as a promotional pick like Corrin towards the end of Smash 4's development, and honestly should've been in Ultimate's base roster. Unlike Rex (who got an apology for not existing in time), at least she was around. X got shafted hard when it came to its musical selection (a grand total of 0 songs), and for a late-life Wii U JRPG, it did really well, although it still doesn't have a Switch port yet (so it'd be good if she was a announced alongside one). Her Smash spirit isn't her true form. An X stage would look gorgeous because the game had a large emphasis on exploration. Easter eggs aside, it isn't connected to the other Xeno games; it's classified as a spiritual successor, but it is more or less a spinoff.

I mean, her voice actress, Caitlin Glass, has an NDA role that she mentioned getting late-ish last year, where we still don't know what it is. . .

I have very limited knowledge of iDOLM@STER, but from what can tell, its addition would be completely out of left field in the best possible way. Not only is it a series that would benefit greatly from having more Western attention (like Dragon Quest), but it seems so unique in tone and presentation from ANY rep we've had in smash thus far. Plus, incorporating the mechanics of a rhythm game in smash's gameplay is something I'd love to see Sakurai and co pull off. (I also just wanna see the boards wig out about this, since it would catch a LOT of people off guard)

Female userbase you say? Now that's good news. Maybe we can get a Switch Style Savvy game after all. It also makes it seem plausible that a character that appeals to a female audience could be added as Smash DLC, just like I've been saying...

...So here's how Phoenix can win.

A.K.A. one year since the game's designated joke/retro character was announced at the worst possible time.
The Direct was just straight up bad if we're being honest. While I'll always be a little bit salty about Incineroar getting in over Decidueye, any Pokemon character being the last base character announced would've been inappropriate. That, and it was padded to hell and back with examples of a mode that was poorly explained. Piranha Plant and that World of Light opening cutscene were the saving grace, but the realization that that cutscene was the only one of its kind didn't do it any favors.

Yup, I am thinking their in!

Terry on the 6th? That possibly lines up with the Phoenix leak saying we'll get FP5 (Being Phoenix Wright) with Terry and Terry releasing on the 6th. Hopefully it's true as Phoenix would be an absolutely amazing character but it could just as easily be a lucky guess.
That definitely lines up with that leak, but I don't think it's a strong evidence for Wright. Guessing Terry's presentation for next wednesday makes a lot of sense if we consider Joker and Banjo. Also there's the thing that Luigi's Mansion 3 was released yesterday and Pokémon comes out in two weeks, so releasing Terry between these two makes sense.

As you know, nothing against Wright, as I said recently I'm starting to like a lot the idea of his inclusion. I think this leak deserves to be at least in consideration, but at the same time I don't consider it the strongest evidence, but maybe that's because I don't think FP5 will be announced with the release of Terry.

I can totally believe that Ace Attorney is popular with a female audience, but is there any data or sources that back that up?

If we're thinking a first party promo rep is coming, then it's def gonna be Byleth. According to the earnings report, 3H did 2.2 or 2.3 million copies, which is more than Awakening and only covers 2 months of sales. Conversely, Fates has a lifetime of 2.85 million, so 3H will easily beat it at some point.

That being said, unfortunately Astral Chain probably hasn't broken a million yet, so idk if Akira Howard is as likely.

Regarding popularity, 3rd party picks, and female demographics, nothing tops the biggest dollhouse simulation franchise:

Just saying... That's one of my pipe dream/WTF combos, but it has a lot of merit.

Maybe we can get a Switch Style Savvy game after all.
They're bringing Brain Age to the Switch, so it's only a matter of time.

It depends in the expectations Nintendo had for Astral Chain. I mean, it's a relatively niche action game from Platinum, they knew it wasn't going to sell 5 million.
It could be a success for Nintendo's viewpoint. If I had to bet I'd say Howard is more likely for the next Smash (if we have a sequel).

Every time Phoenix Wright is brought up as a Smash candidate, it reminds me of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 (specifically the vanilla version where he wasn't in yet) and how there was a dedicated subset of fans who were rallying for Wright's inclusion in that game. Most of the arguments both for and against him revolved around Wright being from a completely non-action game, and whether or not a character from a non-action game like Ace Attorney could work in a fighting game (especially one as crazy and hectic as Marvel vs. Capcom).

Of course, then the Ultimate version of MVC3 was announced, followed by the Ultimate characters being leaked prematurely, and then it was just a matter of waiting for Wright's reveal trailer...

I think Phoenix Wright in Smash Bros. would be cool, but it probably wouldn't be as exciting to me as when he was included in (Ultimate) Marvel vs. Capcom 3, since we now know he can work perfectly well in the context of a fighting game (though it would be hilarious to me if he ends up getting leaked the same way he was for Ultimate MVC3).

The game probably met Platinum's expectations well enough. Maybe Nintendo was hoping for that 1 million, but I suppose looking at it through the lens of it being a new IP as well, the numbers actually are probably decent.

And if he can work in a fighting game like UMVC3, then he can most certainly work in a game like Smash Bros, where Sakurai has made fighters out of Villager, Isabelle, Mr. Game & Watch, Duck Hunt, Wii Fit Trainer, etc.
