But there's a difference between well known and INFLUENCIAL VILAINS
Donkey Kong, Bowser, Ganon, DR.Eggman, DR.Willy, Sephiroth those are the kind of vilain that sorta did his pop-culture with a haymakers, and heck, Sephiroth is probably a step above the "older rpg vilain" you quote.
There was a Pre-Sephiroth and a Post-Sephiroth JRPG vilain mold, sorta like there was a Pre-Cloud and Post-Cloud for JRPG Protagonists designs.

If Sephiroth is too new to be influential, then I guess Smash isn't one of the top fighting games because it's younger than FF7.

No it doesn't. I can't think of a game that outright shows you how overwhelming a villain is to the level of Sephiroth before FF7 by using the Nibelheim flashback sequence and the giant snake and ****. This would mean that having a game use gameplay to improve the storytelling would count as influential, a hell of a lot more than "Bowser gave video games a story" which is also blatantly untrue

Though granted Jin is a bit TOO on the nose. Sephiroth is pretty much the peak of the Edgy White Haired villain in terms of popularity. That said, I do think there are still some popular characters that may have influenced Sephiroth's design (such as Griffith from Berserk), but there are no confirmed influences.

So a friend on Discord sent me this. It's an image that predicted Steve and Sephiroth. It also shows BOTW 2 Zelda, Crash and Dante.

Personally, I think this is a lucky guess. I'm not sure what the history is on this account but I do think Zelda, Steve, Crash and Dante are safe bets. What do you all think?
