I already posted this in the PW thread, but it's pretty much confirmed that the Great Ace Attorney will be localized for the West
There was a problem fetching the tweet
I still don't see us getting a full FIGS localization but with this port and the fact they want to time it with the release of the anime on Netflix and Amazon specifically to try to get new people interested in the games is a strong sign that Capcom still wants to support the series.
I'm sorry but what's FIGS? If it's Great AA2 then the leaked document includes shows collections of both games

Here's a question: What would you guys think of a conglomerate Link similar to Hero where they use items and stuff from across the games they represent?

So like, Link gains alternate costumes for The Hero of Time, The Hero of Twilight, The Hero of the Skies, and The Champion of Hyrule, Toon Link doesn't get any specific costumes because all of his incarnations look the same (aside from pre-adventure clothes, though I wouldn't mind alts for those), and they both use abilities from each game they've appeared in.

Nothing changes for Young Link because he's the only iteration of the character.

Personally, I don't see any reason not to do Toon Link in this way, but Link is a bit less justified since The Champion of Hyrule just screams "one of these things is not like the others", and I'm not really sure if he should be lumped in with the other three even though he fits the Adult Link mold.
I'd have preferred Young Link just fully take over Link's moveset.

My own suggestions for changes to Mario and Link:
The cape became the Down B, and that FLUDD had been replaced with a Cappy throw, which could also be used as a jumping platform. Not just to reference Odyssey, but to make Jumpman have a more unique platforming aspect.

I'd have given Link the Glider as an Up B, absolutely taken away the Boomerang that is barely in BotW, and either given him more references to the Champions and/or the the Sheikah tablet. Most likely more of the tablet, to reference the Cryo and Stasis (I'd also replace the Arrow, though that's less necessary). With Magnesis as a grab.

Champions could be primarily cosmetic- using the Daruk's shield as his shield, Mipha appearing for Link's respawn, Urbosa's Fury as a Smash attack (could replace a sword Smash- there are too many), and I suppose Revali would be for that Up Special.

I think these would not only reflect currently Nintendo, but make the characters more themselves. If My suggestions made Link too different, then I'd make Young Link slower. If we have three Links that are allegedly original characters, it would make them stand apart a bit better. (Not to mention, adult Link should be faster than Young Link by the logic that he, a hero, is incredibly fit and likely would have more muscle and endurance. Also, it would reflect the Endurance meter well).

Wasn't that also the case with 5 and 6? It sucks but it isn't anything new
Yeah 5 and 6 were only localized to english in the West.

About Great Ace Attorney being localized and the anime thing, obviously this doesn't involve Smash at all, but I think this at least shows that Capcom is still interested in the series, because it wasn't that strange to find people thinking Ace Attorney was dead or that the lack of news from the franchise wasn't a good sign for Smash.

I am sorry but I am not buying the cape as the down b. It seems too odd, and given its use in the air....no.

Corrin's dragon transformations are pretty metal so it's a shame how everyone writes them off because of "sword bad".
It's funny because Kirin are the absolute opposite of metal. lol

Honestly, Corrin's dragon stuff leaves me pretty underwhelmed. When I play a dragon, I kind of expect more empowering dragon magic n' stuff and less "my finger is a stake". Don't get me wrong, it's an interesting take on the ability, but I'm just not really here for it. It doesn't really help that Corrin kinda feels like Lucina with a projectile and a mobility skill. It makes him play differently sure, but he still very much feels like he fits the Marth mold in a way that even Roy and Chrom don't.

I do like that Corrin is based on a Kirin though. It's a pretty unique inspiration, and it fits his "I don't like fighting" shtick really well.

Although I find Byleth "fun" to use, I'm disappointed with the direction the devs went with the character in using the Hero's Relics rather than Byleth's own abilities (Sword of the Creator, hand-to-hand, Divine Pulse, white magic, battalions, etc.).
It's funny, because "add more weapons because sword bad" actually made him less unique than his other stuff would have.

The cape became the Down B, and that FLUDD had been replaced with a Cappy throw, which could also be used as a jumping platform. Not just to reference Odyssey, but to make Jumpman have a more unique platforming aspect.
This is kind of what I was thinking, but with a few extra changes.

I'd leave Bow and Arrows. The bow is very important to The Champion of Hyrule moreso than pretty much any other Link. Not really sure about Magnesis as the grab since it doesn't really work that way even against robot enemies, but Stasis would be the single best thing they could add I think. The ability to freeze bombs, arrows, and opponents alike and change their trajectory and stuff would be quite the thing.

As for the Champions, I'd have Rivali's Gale factor into his Glider Up Special like most would suggest, Urbosa's Fury create a paralyzing electric field if you charged a Smash Attack for a bit, Daruk's Protection give Link a Yoshi style shield that can't be shield poked, and Mila's Grace be an entirely cosmetic "effect" that procs whenever Link comes back from being K.O.'ed.

I am sorry but I am not buying the cape as the down b. It seems too odd, and given its use in the air....no.
I thought that too, which is why I turned it into a hammer swing that does pretty much the same thing. Mario's hammer is a bit more timeless than the Cape Feather anyway.

The Paper Mario series, the Mario & Luigi series, Super Mario Maker, Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle. Basically every time he's given a weapon, it's a hammer, or at least, the hammer is included.

So I've been completely out of the loop for a while.

Have there been any major Smash developments in the last couple of weeks?

Also, Regis for Smash.

Well if you don't think he should pull from his side content at all, then Luigi shouldn't have the Polturgust G-something thousand, Peach shouldn't use sports equipment, and Bowser Jr. shouldn't have Clown Kart Dash.

I think Mario's been depicted with a hammer often enough overall that it would make sense to give him one in Super Smash Bros. It at least makes as much sense as the rest of the side game references.

Nah, I'm just curious by timeless outside of the rpgs and othe spinoffs. that's all.

Why didn't they make the forward aerial a hammer swing

Ah, well in that case my reasoning is that while Mario isn't given the hammer all that often in the main series in favor of new stuff, he's given it all the time in spin-offs to the point where it's recognizable as his weapon, which makes it more timeless than the Cape Feather since it's guaranteed to show up more recently and more often than the Cape Feather, which only appeared in a single mainline title, and future appearances hinge on Super Mario Maker being a thing forever and/or a Tanooki Leaf style nostalgia bait comeback.

Having something to do with the Power Up mechanics would be better, but giving Mario a bunch of different states to manage goes against his role as a beginner character.

Why didn't they make the forward aerial a hammer swing
Not sure if giving Mario a big 'ol disjointed spike like that would be a good idea but it certainly would be funny to watch. If we were to add the hammer to one of his normals, I'd add it to his Forward Smash with the animation being a direct reference to the Mario & Luigi games.

EDIT:
To turn this into some very Crack theory Smash Speculation Phoenix & Maya Come to Smash to promote this and he has 3 Alternate costumes
-Miles Edgeworth & Kay
-Apollo Justice & Trucy
-Ryunosuke Naruhodo & Susato

Will this work? No, Maya is too different than the other partners but hey there is a very slim chance That for some reason only Phoenix would change or that only Phoenix will be playable with no Maya.

As oppose to how.... majority of the other reflects work in the air?

Sounds like a complete agreement on this front. It's actually a shame to me that, even his moveset functionally intact, this wasn't done for cosmetic purposes.

Be careful with this splitting of a molecule, because it's small enough to create a nuclear explosion.
(It's also clearly not what you meant, because you posted about Donkey Kong- when 'Super Mario' wasn't even 'Mario,' but was, 'Jumpman.')

From a reference standpoint, it does make sense, but just because it's a reference to something doesn't mean it fits the moveset.

He's supposed to be a simple character whose only major weakness is a lack of range. Giving him a hammer really clashes with that idea.

I really like the idea of kass being added as a BOTW exclusive rep and he would inherit the champions powers akin of how zelda inherited the 3 Ocarian of time magics that link use.

But yeah... the fact that young link and doctor mario exist and arent considered echoes is a terrible missed oportunity to rework certain aspect of normal mario and link: I do think taht mario down B is fine as it is though... and I like his cape . but if doctormario is still a factor i wouldnt mind doctor mario getting a little more similar stats to mario, but keeping more its old moves, add a pill colors managing mechanic and a simple pill buff/debuff system and dr mario can finally be his own independent beast, absolutely worthy of a roster space.

Still outside of the boomerang, i do think that BOTW link is pretty al right in terms of representation and mechanically different... my problem is more regarding young link and toon link honestly. <

As for young link, he is pretty okay.. i just would change adding an ice arrow with sightly different properties and having him alternate between the two. Toon link on teh other hand could use some love plus it has tons of way of diferentiating itself. the most obvious one is grounded up b working like... you know... the wind waker games ._. ... also i like the idea of leaving young link with the small sword but fast smashes, but i wonder how would toon link work if teh go all ganondorf on him and give him his skull hammer as smash attacks?.

Would be an interesting gameplay if something as mobile and small as toon link has teh option of powerful high commitment and reach attacks?

It was what I meant, it's canon to Mario. Also it got an hammer so..

Mario doesn't have a canon, either.

I agree with SMAASH! Puppy SMAASH! Puppy , the hammer is iconic, and is often Mario's first or only weapon. It isn't an issue that it is the 'side games,' especially since, as you said, he uses it in his first appearance ever. It would be nice if even one move referenced the original Donkey Kong. I mean, DK cannot even throw barrels!

I think that my main issue with Link is that... it feels thematically half-assed. Why does he have the new bombs if absolutely nothing else relates to what he does in Breath of the Wild?
It would have been so simple to just have the Champions moves integrated. It would look visually different. Even just one more rune would help a lot.
I'm getting a bit frustrated with this now.

I think it makes more sense to have Link commit more to the change, but even more, it makes sense to update a character to reflect BotW, than to update a character to reflect Majora's Mask or WindWaker, just given the timing, and more importantly, the impact BotW had.

Well, the original idea was to use the hammer in much the same way as the cape is used now, but with a downward swing that makes it feel better as a Down Special (since the new attack I was giving him really only worked as a Side Special) while still retaining the reflective properties since an anti-zoning tool is a good thing for a beginner character to have. I'd have Mario grab the hammer near its head so it didn't extend the range that much if at all as well. The only thing you'd really lose is the part where the cape turns opponents around, but that really only had a niche use anyway.

Sounds like a complete agreement on this front. It's actually a shame to me that, even his moveset functionally intact, this wasn't done for cosmetic purposes.
My guess would be that they're a package deal, and Rivali's Gale would have changed Link's design a bit more than they would have been able to deal with in conjunction with everything else, so none of them were really used. Still kind of a missed opportunity, but it does kind of make sense.

So given this Capcom leak revealing their upcoming plans. Does this mean no Capcom characters in Season Pass 2?

Also no info on Darkstalkers, like a possibility of a remake, remaster, reboot or sequel. Talk about a bummer... Would love the series to not only implement mythological-based characters but more cryptids as well as they did with Sasquatch.

That's possible- but quite honestly I think redesigning old characters just wasn't a priority in this game, given time restraints. I think there is a possiblity Sakurai would have done more to Link and Mario, maybe even other characters, if he had more time.

For information, the Ace attorney trilogy Outperformed the sales goals by 150% in the first month. I always knew that Ace attorney would be back sooner or later. The trilogy was released last year, I don't get why people where acting like the franchise was dead.

Nah, it just doesn't have anything to do with Smash.

The leak hasn't finished yet. There's only been 60 GB found out of 1 TB.
Wait what?

I'm not entirely sure that more characters would have gotten an overhaul given the precedent, but yeah, I think not giving them one was kind of a necessity for this game. Even characters with visual overhauls didn't necessarily get mechanical ones regardless of whether or not they needed it.

Poor Mega Man didn't even get a visual update so his characterization is still just that he blinks. Of all the characters that try to be as 1-1 as possible with their mainseries interpretations, Mega Man is the only one I would say has this to their detriment.
EDIT: Mainly because he's based off of his NES spritework, which doesn't quite show off his personality like later styles do...well, later styles other than Mega Man 7. I dunno why he looks so pissed off in that game.

Yeah. This does not completely deconfirm a Capcom character, although I absolutely believe that another Square Enix rep is coming.
What does that have to do with the price of tea in China? lol

Anyway, what makes you think so? They do have quite a few good options, and I could see them picking a few of them, but I couldn't really say that any of them are even close to being a certainty.

Otherwise they can't bring back the Chocobo and Geno costumes from Smash 4, as so far Square Enix content has only come with Square Enix characters.

no mention of anything Soul Calibur, no other Tales projects, no Smash character

Can we just stop and appreciate the fact they got around the Sherlock Holmes copyright conundrum by naming him "Herlock Sholmes"? I might buy this collection for that alone.

Eh...I'm not entirely certain that that would be a requirement rather than a coincidence. I'd imagine if it was a requirement and they didn't want a SquareEnix character that they'd just not bring the costumes back.

I'm so mad people think this name is an AA thing when it's literally been around since 1908
Herlock Sholmes or changing the letters of a copyright character to dodge copyright while still using the character?

I think it might be contractual issues involving Square Enix. I think that they only want their content to come with their own characters.
Square Enix costumes have only came alongside Square Enix fighters, and vice versa.
I don't personally see the basis for this, but to each their own.
Again, I agree with SMAASH! Puppy SMAASH! Puppy
We had a SE character in each of the first two DLC batches (meaning, Cloud in Sm4sh, and Hero in FP1- so it made sense for the characters to be their all at once).
I'm not sure why this necessitates the characters.
