But what people don't get is that Sakurai doesn't go for the "hot starter", he goes for whatever gives him the most creative ideas.

It's why we got Incineroar instead of any form of Rowlet, despite the latter's evolution line being by far the most pushed for Gen 7.
From what I've seen, not quite. Decidueye got into Pokkén Tournament, and was owned by one major character in the anime. Incineroar got into Super Smash Bros., was owned by two major characters in the anime, and appeared in the movie to promote Gen 7.

They certainly didn't ignore Decidueye, but Incineroar was pushed harder.

Hard disagree.

Incineroar is clearly the hot 🔥 starter. As is Cinderace. :4pacman:

I wasn't implying that. I was merely stating that inspiring Smash does not a huge legacy make.
Alright. I thought you were based on the wording.
Cheif Kinda died in speculation alot thanks to Steve. He's still clinging though
I wouldn't be surprised if he made it in eventually.

Wait a second...

One of your arguments for Incin being chosen for Smash as the "hot starter" is that he was chosen for Smash?

Something new to talk about.

What characters do you guys are overrated in terms of chances.

Dante certainly comes to mind. All started because of those tweets a few years back regarding him. Don't get me wrong, he has a shot getting in but not as likely as folks are making it out to be.
The unfortunate part of this is you can say literally any popular character in terms of discussion. Reimu, Hayabusa, Dante, Crash, 2B, Sora, Rex, Arle, Geno, Llyod, Dixie and Phoenix Wright all have their fans and get talked about fairly consistently.

If you wanted to bring up someone who's not discussed much, say Arthur or Bill/Lance, but you won't really get far with people. There's a few people in the middle ground of this, like Lara Croft or Sol Badguy. And every time Mortal Kombat's been mentioned, it gets shut down immediately. Killer Instinct probably ain't happenin', cause of 2 Microsoft characters being in already, unless we get really lucky.

Then there's stuff like League of Legends, is hugely popular, but has a ton of characters, so unless your pretty familiar with that series and its characters discussion surrounding it will be weird.

But with Heihachi's Mii Costume, people don't really feel the need to bring up Tekken like before, even if technically Jin and Kazuya could be viable. Soul Calibur gets a shout out every once in a while, but unfortunately doesn't have a huge pull with Nintendo fans.

People aren't gonna think about shilling for Raziel or any lesser-known character unless a leak pops up or you get an obscure character to organically get attention in the Smash fanbase's faces. But again, without leaks, doing so for a Non-Nintendo obscure character seems really unlikely without it being an intentional joke.

Case in point - Ryza, who was not talked about at all until a leak came out about her I believe?

The fact Wright gets overshadowed by both Dante and Monster Hunter, I'd say he's more middle ground tbh.
I wouldn't say so because his support has been damn consistent for a long time, especially for a series that isn't as huge as other Capcom contemporaries. Like, I still remember people talking about Phoenix Wright before Ryu even joined.

Basically, Dante's got support now, because we've seen more "outlandish" and newer characters occur, so he seems less impossible, and Monster Hunter is literally the most successful Capcom franchise, so of course people are gonna talk about it. Also, his main games being on Nintendo systems and how one of the DMC devs felt he should at least have that before being added to Smash.

And MH has the missing mii costume thing. The same thread Geno and Lloyd fans hang on to currently. Granted, I personally thing, If they can add a fully playable character, whether they have a Mii Costume too, they'll do it.

No. I was simply listing all of the things both Pokémon got.

If I were to word it a little differently, both Pokémon got major fighting game appearances, both got a major role in the anime (but Incineroar got two of them), and Incineroar was in the Marshadow movie to be like "Hey kids! Remember Gen 7?".

Wasn't Incineroar choosed basically only because Sakurai like Wrestler and thougt that this concept could make a fun character? I don't think the anime really matters in that decision.

Speaking of, this is why I think that if Gen 8 get a playable Pokémon, it will be Inteleon. He may not be the most popular (or maybe he is, I haven't keep up with the anime this gen), but I feel like there's a lot to do with the Spy theme that Inteleon bring and Sakurai might realise it and choose him over Baboom and Football rabbit.

But seriously tho. Raziel from Legacy of Kain could be a neat obscure choice. Cause his design is really, really cool. Though there's plenty of characters I'd pick before him. Again, if I got an obscure choice, He'd be one I'd go with. A wonder if him absorbing souls could be implemented, It probably couldn't tho.

Yeah. He got grapped by Alolan Whip, and the wrestling ropes were placed just beyond the blast zone, so Pit died before (or just as) he collided with them.

But Incin couldn't recover from that distance anyway, so Pit won because he had a 2 - 1 stock advantage.

Ey, I want my discount FIFA rep.

Seriously though, yeah that's a good point. Inteleon could hypotheoretically bring that James Bond-esque moveset (with a water theme to it) without that expensive licensing fee attached to it.

Yes, Sakurai chose Incineroar due to the wrestler concept being fun. I also imagine Inteleon is going to be Sakurai's choice since it seems like it may have elements he would like a lot.

I agree. He would be a great addition.

Every time a player character is defeated, a soul appears. If you block and press B, you can suck it in to adsorb it for a health boost. Down B would be pull the Reaver or not. Side B would be either the special Reaver stab blast or throw projectile.

He would be a fun character.

An alternate answer I have for the "who do you think is overrated" question would be literally any character who gets an announcement.

The second a notable game gets announced in a Direct, people have the tendency to just assume that game's main character is a lock for Smash.

Monster Hunter, Dante, Impa, Crash Bandicoot, Sora, Gen 8 Pokemons and many others have fallen victim of this.

Unfortunately, I've got a feeling we're probably gonna be seeing an Arle Mii costume or spirit event. That's just me though.

Believe me, I could be wrong though.
Though I think Arle herself would be more fun to play, the idea of her just forgoing Puyos and magic to beat you to death with her bare hands is very amusing.

I love how every Tuesday evening has turned into a mini hype cycle of sorts, anticipating the prospect of the next tourney/spirit event with potential ramifications for the future

It's a fun feeling, ya know? Always nice to have something to look forward to.

Tetris for Smash.
Feels really strange that one of video games' most iconic tracks (which is in Smash by the way) was adapted from a Russian poem and subsuquently folk song about a peddler (two in the poem) and his promises to a local farm girl when he returns from a trip to the local market town. The poem... does not end on a happy note, with the peddler(s) being killed on the way back.

Yes, that's the Tetris Type A theme. Feels very much like how the Disney versions of fairy tales are often heavily toned down from their sources.

Well, it does keep this thread running some more... so one could kinda (?) consider it a win... maybe? (Unless one is a fan of a Spirited series of course.)

I just find it funny since basically nothing happens every time. The last few Spirit Events that actually disconfirmed anything have been about characters that nobody cares about, and the last one period was a few months ago.

Still, the thought that anything can change is an exciting one to say the least.
EDIT: Just ask Chrom. lol
