Oh I see we were talking about Yuri and Lloyd earlier? I think what makes the dynamic between the two when we talk about the Tales of rep (if there is one) is that they both have multiple positives that could propel them to that coveted letter. Since I only talk about Lloyd, lets start with Yuri.

Yuri's biggest strength when talking about his chances is he is extremely popular within the Japanese Tales of community, and the only person who rivals his popularity isn't in the running due to not being a protagonist (RIP Leon, at least they made you a major character in Crestoria). Its a major reason why he has appeared in other crossovers outside of the Tales of games. He also unlike Lloyd has a game on the Switch, meaning adding Yuri would lead to more sales of a game, which equals more profit for everyone involved. Although I think it would be a bit weird if they decided to advertise it now when it would have made sense to advertise it when his game just released, which was during Fighter Pass 1. Unless a new tales game is announced for next year on the Switch (which changes speculation all together depending on what the game would be), he is definitely one of the top contenders for the spot.

Then there is Lloyd. Lloyd, while only having middling popularity in the Japanese Tales of community (PSA, being 11th on a poll with over a hundred of possible candidates is NOT unpopular), has the support of the Smash community, which as we have seen with Ridley and K Rool is a factor. Frequently when looking at Bandai Namco reps on fan polls, it is ALWAYS Lloyd and Heihachi who are the standouts of Bamco. And one of those two are no longer an option for DLC. And although his game is not on the switch like Yuri, his games are pretty much affiliated solely with Nintendo at this point, with the first game being a Gamecube exclusive for a year, and the second game actually being a Wii excusive. Add on that Tales of Symphonia is not only the best selling Tales games of all time, but the best selling Tales of game in the West and it is clear to see why he is always brought up so much. His only problem which I go back and forth on is would Nintendo choose an older Tales of game (like cloud) over someone with a newer game.

TLDR: Yuri and Lloyd are definitely the two getting the spot if we do have a Tales of character, but which one gets it depends on what way Nintendo decides to go.

Quick question: Would Lloyd or Velvet have a similar gimmick, or is that mechanic exclusive to Vesperia and the Tales games of the same era? I don't doubt that they would have different attacks and specials, but I'd like to know if the Over Limit is a universal Tales thing or just a Vesperia thing.
I have yet to play Berseria unfortunately, but from looking it up and my own experiences with Tales, Over Limit is a Symphonia, Abyss, Vesperia, and Xillia 1&2 thing. It works differently in each game, and I have yet to play/finish Symphonia and Xillia 1&2, so I only have Vesperia and Abyss to personally compare them to. I'd recommend visiting this page here to read up on it if you're curious.

Interesting thing to note about the Symphonia to Xillia era is that their battle systems shared a lot of mechanics, with Vesperia being a super polished up version of Symphonia's and Xillia being an evolution of Vesperia's system, with them starting to experiment with more different mechanics. There's also Graces which did completely it's own thing.

Crazy Dave not being jovial and wacky (And without a pot on his head, no less!) ****s with my mind in ways you can't imagine.
Yeah the picture of him sad makes me feel sad as well. Now all i did to find it was look up crazy Dave sad and it was one of the first pictures that popped up.

They ain’t gonna Tencent-up the Switch in Brazil like they did in China are they? Ergo, make the OS proprietary with only a few games?
I don't think Brazil has restrictions that require that (though I could be wrong).
It's just that import taxes are going to make the Switch comically expensive unless it's manufactured in Brazil.

Nope. The OS thing happens in China because it's... well, China.

For Brazil, this effect will pretty much be restricted to pricing and availability.

ANYWAYS

Crazy Dave being brought up is making me think about how a tower defense rep would play in general. For Dave, I'm mostly thinking his smashes, plus maybe some tilts and aerials, would have him plant the plant on the first input, and then the plant attacks on the second. The plants can be moves around and are only mutually exclusive with plants of the same type (i.e. Only one Coconut Cannon is allowed for his forward smash, but it can be on the stage with the other plants, like a Squash for his down air or down smash), meaning he's awkward to get a hang of but has the potential for some crazy setups.

Are there any other tower defense reps you want?

3BitSaurus 3BitSaurus Can you give me more details on Brazilian localizations? Stuff like, are games usually localized to Portuguese specifically, or do you get the PAL or NA version, is there a specific ratings body like the ESRB, have consoles been region locked there, the like. I wanna see if this'll make importing cheaper for the guys down south.

I know discussion has moved on from this a bit, but I absolutely did NOT expect to come on here this morning to see discussion about Zavok as a Smash fighter. Like others have said, even as a Sonic fan I would be extremely disappointed with Zavok being added, especially over characters like Tails, Knuckles, and Dr. Eggman, but the other thought that instantly comes to my mind is: What else would Zavok even bring? Most of the notable Sonic characters already have Spirits, and a stage from his home game, Sonic Lost World, is already in Ultimate, so there wouldn't even be the "bringing a new world" factor as far as the Lost Hex. If we got some actual new Sonic remixes from it then I suppose that would be a plus, though.

In order to appeal the popular gaming history in Brazil, Nintendo will include a certain pack in remake game with every Switch as well as announcing a new market based fighter for Smash:

Very neat idea on how crazy Dave could work. A tower defense rep that I want other than crazy Dave is probably the ballon monkey game ( I forgot what it is called) though I don’t want him nearly as much as I do crazy Dave.
SharkLord and anybody else who wants to join in, if crazy Dave got into smash what plants would you want him to have? (Other than peashooter and sunflower because I think they would be a 100% definitely in his moveset.)

I almost forgot to put what plants I wanted. My picks are walnut (probably to come out when shielding), kernpults, and split peashooter.

Well, that depends. A lot of games are localized to Brazilian Portuguese and some major AAA titles (such as TLOU1 and 2) even got full dubs. Although, sometimes we do get the NA version and even have to make do sometimes with Portuguese... from Portugal. But these days, quite a few indies have Brazilian localizations too (such as Hollow Knight and Fall Guys), especially on Steam.

For Nintendo games, we pretty much just get the NA versions. I really don't remember ever seeing a localization that wasn't fanmade, really. Saw a great one for SMRPG a few weeks ago, in fact.

Say uh 3BitSaurus 3BitSaurus SKX31 SKX31 you guys are the resident Tencent experts. You know if there’s any plans to bring Smash Ultimate and/or Splatoon 2 to China yet?
Well, SKX31 is pretty much the Tencent specialist here, I'm more like the "League of Legends supporter", lol.

I remember there were plans to bring Smash, yes? While I don't think it's been approved for launch, I'm pretty sure I saw it on their backlog for China launches. Or maybe I'm remembering it wrong, I dunno. Then again, they did include two Chinese options for texts in the game, so at the very least Nintendo would want to do it.

As for Splatoon 2... no idea really, but considering how the series is big (literally Nintendo's best new series in some time), I think it's a matter of when, not if.

Don't think so, no. Brazil AFAIK doesn't have the extremely strict video game approval laws that China has. While Brazil's rating's board appears to be under its Ministry of Justice, it's not apparently as strict as China's. To writ:

China's video game regulator's called SAPP. And I'm shortening that because the full name's a chore. Even the abbrieviation's so long it's a chore. (The name begins with State Administration for Press and Publication... yeah). The rating board is the main reason why the Chinese Switch has so few games - SAPP literally approves 1-2 Switch games a month at most (with domestic and international games in different queues). Mobile games have it easier... but we're still talking ca. 50* mobile games approved a month max. With Ring Fit the Chinese Switch is up to 11 games IIRC. Yeah. *(Small edit, mistyped. Still, point stands)

The Tencent-ery is a result of that - the Chinese Switch can play international cartridges, but the international cartridges have no online functionality while in the Chinese Switch. Sony and Microsoft (they share the same Chinese partner) did the same with the official Chinese PS4 and Xbone respectively because of the extremely strict approval laws. There are some that will buy the Chinese Switch, yes, but needless to say, most prefer international Switches.

China is unlike places like Brazil and India in that importing say international Switches is / was not ridicolously expensive. Grey market consoles are easily get-able via Hong Kong and Shanghai's free trade zone. Also, international Switches are easily get-able via China's eBay / Amazon. As a result, most Switches and other consoles in China are imported - and many Chinese prefer those. It's the same reason why Steam's popular there - the lack of censorship is a main point in its favor (as an aside, when Valve introduced a Chinese Steam... most Chinese didn't like that. Needless to say, VPNs are commonly used there).

As far as Splatoon 2 and Ultimate in China... I haven't heard anything about Splatoon 2. Haven't heard much about SSBU, but I'm pretty confident that Tencent and Nintendo will because they used the base game renders when introducing the Switch on Chinese social media:

WeiboSmash.png

This image is why I think a character that's popular in China (LoL, Steve, Reimu etc.) is a distinct possibility. SNK's owners being Chinese strenghens that position.

I have the perfect character to appeal to Brazil and introduce a new market right here
And I who thought Terry was the ultimate Brazilian / LatAm rep... :p

The two Chinese options are Traditional (Taiwan and Hong Kong) and Simplified (Mainland and Singapore) IIRC.

I'm like the opposite everybody wants me to Smash Brothers everyone wants Lloyed but I want Yuri. Certain people want Geno but I want Sora. feels weird
From my experience, most people here prefer Yuri over Lloyd.

Geno probably gets talked about more because of uh...reasons, but also because Sora discussion usually begins with "I would like Sora" and ends just as quickly with "Disney bad".

You mean Bloons? That'd be pretty interesting. I'd imagine they would have a more traditional moveset that incorporates elements from all the monkeys, since there's so many of them.

Fr Crazy Dave, I'd imagine we could squeeze in the Repeater and Gatling Pea for his jab, if we're using the Peashooter for it. I think the Squash is pretty iconic and would be a perfect fit for a down move, and the Chomper should be his grab. I also think the Potato Mine and Wall-Nut should be incorporated to emphasize the planning aspect of the Tower Defense genre (Plus Wall-Nut bowling for the latter), and one of the 'pults since they're your best friend in the Rooftop stages. If we're adding some PvZ2 plants, I think Snapdragon and Bonk Choi are the most popular out of them.

You know, I never considered Plants Vs. Zombies to be a tower defense game.

If they were going to add one, they'd likely have some sort of currency system that allows you to build traps and turrets and stuff. They'd probably also have weak normals like Hero, and would perhaps even be quite frail.

It's so much less strict that a lot of games just have the ESRB tags rather than our own "Classificação Indicativa", identified by the colorful tags.

Brazil's biggest problem with games is taxing. I mean, videogames were taxed as "jogos de azar" - or gambling - until recently, I believe, and the importing costs for electronic products in general are among the world's highest.

****'s weird over here, man.

well they have the Brazilian advisory rating system in brazil witch is close to the esrb.
We do, but it's not always used, especially because of the grey market. This is particularly true for Nintendo games.

The use of the rating system is arguably more consistent for movies and PC games than for consoles.

That sounds quite innovative, yes (Slap City does have Business Casual Man, who has a currency system where he builds money via attacks and taunts - and can "cash out" in order to strenghen his attacks). That said, it'd probably need to be carefully balanced since we're dealing with traps and turrets - potential camping material. Still, that does sound very interesting.

Yeah Bloons that is the one.
All the plants you listed are ones that could definitely could work great for his moveset. Also if he does get added I think zombies should be a mii costume.

Edit: zombies was zomboss but it autocorrected and I forgot to check over the post.

Well, you're using towers to defend your brains, so...

But yeah, a turret-placing fighter would be pretty cool. The way I see it, Crazy Dave would be weak but durable, mainly relying on his plants for crazy setups. He'd also need Sunflowers for charging up Sun, to help balance out his powerful plants.
So NateDrake dropped this on ResetEra, and I can't tell if he's hinting at something, or if he knows the guy he's responding to and what they want.

It's worth noting that this is the hidden text:

I realize that I'm kind of defeating the purpose by acknowledging the hidden content, but I know how quickly rumours or alleged leaks like this can spread.

Oh definitely. Especially considering how powerful these things are. With Plants Vs. Zombies, we'd have things like:
  • Sunflower: The only way to get currency, but is easily destroyed. This mechanic would allow counterplay, but might turn every match into puppy guarding the things, which might not be very fun.
  • Pea Shooter: A steady (though not necessarily rapid) stream of projectiles. Even if the projectiles aren't overwhelming, they could still give characters like Incineroar tons of trouble.
  • Wall Nut: A destructible wall of significant height and durability. Depending on how this is implemented this could be utterly toxic.

Honestly not surprised. Wasn't the thing with Smash leaks these days that most insiders don't wanna touch Smash with a ten-foot pole because of how fans tend to be?

Speaking of Hidden Content, the thread on Era has a lot of that and I’m not ever registering an account there just to see it

I imagine though that all the Hidden Content is just ****posting
