Oh I see we were talking about Yuri and Lloyd earlier? I think what makes the dynamic between the two when we talk about the Tales of rep (if there is one) is that they both have multiple positives that could propel them to that coveted letter. Since I only talk about Lloyd, lets start with Yuri.
Yuri's biggest strength when talking about his chances is he is extremely popular within the Japanese Tales of community, and the only person who rivals his popularity isn't in the running due to not being a protagonist (RIP Leon, at least they made you a major character in Crestoria). Its a major reason why he has appeared in other crossovers outside of the Tales of games. He also unlike Lloyd has a game on the Switch, meaning adding Yuri would lead to more sales of a game, which equals more profit for everyone involved. Although I think it would be a bit weird if they decided to advertise it now when it would have made sense to advertise it when his game just released, which was during Fighter Pass 1. Unless a new tales game is announced for next year on the Switch (which changes speculation all together depending on what the game would be), he is definitely one of the top contenders for the spot.
Then there is Lloyd. Lloyd, while only having middling popularity in the Japanese Tales of community (PSA, being 11th on a poll with over a hundred of possible candidates is NOT unpopular), has the support of the Smash community, which as we have seen with Ridley and K Rool is a factor. Frequently when looking at Bandai Namco reps on fan polls, it is ALWAYS Lloyd and Heihachi who are the standouts of Bamco. And one of those two are no longer an option for DLC. And although his game is not on the switch like Yuri, his games are pretty much affiliated solely with Nintendo at this point, with the first game being a Gamecube exclusive for a year, and the second game actually being a Wii excusive. Add on that Tales of Symphonia is not only the best selling Tales games of all time, but the best selling Tales of game in the West and it is clear to see why he is always brought up so much. His only problem which I go back and forth on is would Nintendo choose an older Tales of game (like cloud) over someone with a newer game.
TLDR: Yuri and Lloyd are definitely the two getting the spot if we do have a Tales of character, but which one gets it depends on what way Nintendo decides to go.
