I assume you're talking to me?

I never said he wasn't iconic, I just never saw any support for him until the ballot.
In a way, yes

K Rool was very iconic. What was the issue was him and Dixie completing against each other. I always felt K Rool should've went first because of lack of villains and more iconic than Dixie. You just gotta dig deep brother

Do you guys think Ultimate should turn into live service game in line with Fortnite, PUBG, etc? This way, they don't have to worry about cutting roster. People can keep dreaming about their most wanted as Ultimate will keep going on and on.
Sakurai said it more than once: a new Smash won't have a huge roster like Ultimate has. In case they will develop a new Smash game after Ultimate, they must come up with new modes and new ways of playing.
The idea of Ultimate being the last game of the series for real and becoming a live service game is not that bad imho. But it must be done in the right way! It would be updated every once in a while (3/4 years maybe?) with new content in the form of "seasons", just like Fortnite (I guess... I actually never played it) and the cost for every season would be something like 30 to 40 $/€. This approach will allow Nintendo to publish the game on their next consoles too! Then it could be great to pay a lower price for a season if you have already bought one or both the dlcs. This is not a thing Nintendo would do, but let's pretend it's a possibility.
Anyway, the base game will still be the same we have now + the 2 Fighter Passes, but every 3/4 years they drop a new season: new characters will join the roster, new stages and music, new modes and maybe also new gameplay. For example in Season 2 they change characters gameplay and frame data and they make a more Melee-like gameplay: in Season 3 a Brawl-like gameplay and so on. The best thing would be giving us the chance to play every single season that has come out whenever we want.
I can't actually think of a better way to make a new Smash game as majestic as Ultimate. I'm also thinking about how the encyclopedic value of the game would increase! So I guess I would totally support this idea, if made in the right way.

Now... I can see two major flaws in all of this. This project would require an insane effort in balancing the game, but it should be noted how well they are handling that in Ultimate. The second issues is about the characters rights and the licenses. I don't really know how they would deal with that.

Its usually in the morning around my time.
Perhaps it might be a good idea to discuss this at the Layton support thread, Pumpkaboo.
Oh F, rip, wrong damn thread
A small amount of alt costumes for people's beloved characters? How utterly stupid.

Now dozens upon dozens of alt costumes for Mii Fighters? That's definitely where the money is.
How much do I have to pay Sakurai to give me a Grima Male Robin alt costume?

I wish they would, honestly. Octolings getting in as Alph-styled alts would have their shots skyrocket if this was a thing.

Tons of characters have good potential alts, it's a huge shame that the costume DLC is limited for just Miis.
It does make sense if "8 colors per character" is hardcoded into the game (I'll take a shot in the dark and guess that it's for simplicity's sake).

But still. it's a major wasted opportunity. I want my Kingdom Hearts Cloud alt. A sword with bandages on it for no good reason? Hell yeah.
To give a few more examples of alts, we could have:
  • Dry :ultbowser: with blue-colored flames
  • all of :ultkrool:'s different DKC appearances
  • different versions of :ultlink:
  • Yarn :ultyoshi: throwing yarn balls instead of eggs
  • :ultmetaknight: as Galacta Knight with different particle effects in his animations
  • a full-on Cosplay :ultpikachu: with other costumes besides Lucha
  • Ninten as a costume for :ultness:, since his chances of making it solo are abysmally low
  • :ultfalcon: as Blood Falcon with blood-red flame effects
Among several others. Just a few tweaks in particle effects, maybe a few new taunts and idle animations and bam, you have content worth selling.

I'll add all this to my buddies MOD list. Whether or not Sakurai gives us more alt costumes or even other characters that people want...the mod's will come. So the CSS can be modded how you want and characters like Master Chief will get in as texture mods, which I am perfectly fine with. Hopefully Sakurai realizes this as well. I'm excited because when all is said and done. I am modding the CSS how I think it should be.

:ultfalcon: We are going with a Black Shadow mod for this guy though. As easy as it would be for Sakurai to just make him an Echo Fighter... Like I said. The mod's will come! A **** ton more modding will be going on whenever the big "FINAL PATCH" for SSBU is released.

There are actually some really good mods already out there. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DVQPGChAVZI

More alts for the characters eh?

I mean technically we have four for each in WoL, two of which are actually used in the mode for specific characters depending on where they’re found

but then Hero’s trailer threw logic out the window and proved anyone can have the effect they desire

just gotta make it officially selectable

Okay, hold the phone. Star Allies is a year younger than ARMS; Tropical Freeze IIRC sold more than ARMS overall. Yet ARMS was the series that got priority.

And even when talking about vocal audiences, I'd argue Bandana Dee and Dixie had just as much of a DLC following as an ARMS character did. There are arguments pointing to these characters not having what it takes, but recency of the latest titles and audiences are not two of them.
Well according to SKX31 SKX31 , Nintendo does seem to have some sort of current plan with ARMS, and while I don't think Min Min really works as a promotional pick due to the age of the game, there might be something we don't currently know about coming down the line.

Contrasted with the Kirby and Donkey Kong series, and it's likely their new games are a ways off with the earliest date for the next mainline Kirby game being somewhere in 2022, and a third game in the Donkey Kong Country Returns series being in question since Retro Studios is currently working on Metroid Prime 4.

As far as support for the characters goes, to say that they're about as popular as an ARMS character sounds about right to me since I never really saw much support for any of them for this DLC cycle. Granted, this place is my only frame of reference but...

I personally think they're long shots, heck, Min Min herself was a long shot. Rex & Pyra/Mythra as well as they're kinda in a similar boat, albeit one with a Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition sized hole in it.

as for Min Min I still kinda think the final Party Crash Bash played a part, along with Yabuki favoring her... 🤔

I'm actually pretty sure that every character that had the Dharkon eyes in the gameplay portion of the trailer was a Dark Realm character. It was only the cinematic to switch things up.

yes, lets make a gigantic, bulky character a 1-to-1 clone of a much smaller character. That makes sense. It's not like there's already a character with a simmilar moveset that fits the proportions a lot better...

You do know ARMS was released about a year before Star Allies, right?
You do know that I implied that ARMS was also too old to be promoted by a DLC character in the same post right?

Later, I more explicitly state this.

And then Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition will blow that boat out of the water when it’s announced

Eh, if they're waiting to see how much Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition sold then the Xenoblade Chronicles X port/remaster is definitely not coming out in time to mess with Rex & Pyra/Mythra's chances, especially if they take the remastered route and it certainly wasn't conceptualized by the time the DLC was decided.

If anything's gonna blow their chances out of the water, it's gonna be Xenoblade Chronicles 3, or whatever the most recent title that can still be considered for the next game will be called.

I still wouldn't be sure about a Xenoblade Chronicles X port or remaster either since as far as I know, Xenoblade Chronicles X was very much less popular than Xenoblade Chronicles is, and they may not see the effort as worth it.

I don’t see Bandana Waddle Dee getting in over Dixie Kong. While both are highly requested, I feel like Dixie is way more popular and recognizable and you can do a lot with her moveset. I also feel like it would be a major disservice to her if she was a Diddy Echo. I don’t see it happening. Her unique hair, and the fact that she can take flight and attack with it makes her more of a standout.
I don't super care about either, but all of that is just plain incorrect. They're pretty much equally recognizable. And Dee's moveset is far more unique than Dixie's is.

Nope, Fox is found in the Light Realm as is Snake, Zero Suit Samus, Captain Falcon, Shulk and Duck Hunt

maybe they’ll do a Galeem effect trailer next with the effect on Dark Realm characters as well like the Echoes, Rosalina, Cloud etc

You could say the same about Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, and yet Encore still happened. IMO the Wii U was the biggest thing holding X’s popularity back and they may wanna give it a second chance

I think they both have pretty good potential for uniqueness. Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong don't use too many of Donkey Kong Country's mechanics in their movesets, so a lot of those can go to Dixie Kong. They might even be able to make Dixie Kong a duo character with Kiddy Kong as two semi-clones working together. Bandana Waddle Dee could work as either an everyman for the Waddle Dee & related species, or just with the attacks from the Spear copy ability. Both options would give him the distinction of being a small, light character with really big disjoints as unflashy as it could be.

How would you guys feel about if they had a stage creation contest and whatever stage won they made an actual stage. The people submitting would have to use stage builder to make the stage.
How they would choose it would be Sakurai and team narrow the submissions down to 5 and then people vote for which one they like the most
The stage submissions would of course have to come from a existing game in smash.
3rd party submissions are allowed but of course if Sakurai and team wanted a certain stage they would have to talk to the 3rd party company.
Do u guys think this is a good idea?

wow, someone listening to criticism and changing on the internet? That's a refreshing change of pace!

I'd just say to give back Ganondorf's Smash 4 smash attacks.

Doesn't sound like a bad idea to me. It'd be nice to see someone's creation get recreated by the Smash dev team. Although I think if they were to do that, they probably would have announced it along with Fighter Pass 2 and it would probably be Japanese exclusive.

How would they compensate for the reduced range, though? You could make him walk/run slightly faster than Ganondorf. but that risks him being a better choice overall.

It's interesting at least. I do think there are a few problems though. The first, and biggest one is the morality of it. I think contests like these are fun, but I've also seen them get a lot of ridicule for exploitation, the logic being that you're essentially commissioning a bunch of pieces and, in this case, not paying for a single one as well as using the idea of the winner in a commercial product. I genuinely don't know if contests like this are a fun event or something completely immoral at this point.

The second problem is that Nintendo could get ridiculed for bias depending on what the top 5 picks are even if there wasn't really any bias there. Also, there would have to be a rule in place for not copying stages from fan projects like Super Smash Bros. Crusade or Super Smash Flash 2, which could be a little difficult since they probably wouldn't want to acknowledge these fan game's existences without also slapping a DMCA on them, and doing so would get them a lot of hate.

Lastly, there's about a 99% chance that a Bowser's Castle would win because it's Bowser's Castle. The poor really cool stages based off of more obscure or niche series like Chibi-Robo or Rhythm Heaven wouldn't stand a chance.

Kelios is back, and it seems to me he may be hinting at the Mario remasters.

Other than that, nah, business as usual.
Which by itself honestly doesn't say much, as just about every insider has mentioned those. We're still playing a waiting game right now, just as we have been for the past five months.

Oh yeah totally, it's kind of a non-leak: Mario Remasters were already looking good and likely, but Pikmin 3 directly coinciding with what the original outlets said would happen pretty much locked it down for me. Kelios is just yet another confirmation on how this is another one of those open secrets kind of deal. Everyone knows it's coming, it's just a matter of when.

You brought a good point about smash fan games. There definitely would have to be a rule saying no fan game stages or something like that.
I don’t know so much about the morality thing. I definitely wouldn’t want them to make people pay for the stage, I feel like that would make it immoral. But also if someone doesn’t want their stage to be used by Nintendo then they don’t have to submit it.

To be clear- I wasn’t indicating that Bandanna Waddle Dee “wouldn’t sell” because he’s a 1st party. I don’t know where that came from, and the fact that a few people took that as my meaning is strange, but also suggesting that it’s automatically an attack on 1st parties. Chill out.

Doesn’t mean much, but I just don’t see the hype with the character. My personal opinion is that, compared to other options, he’s kinda boring. But that’s my opinion.

In terms of comparing him to other First Party DLC, it’s a tough comparison. Corrin and Byleth make a strong case as largely marketing picks (Fates and Three Houses), Byleth and Min Min both brought in new games in a more crossover focused model (Three Houses, and an expanded representation of ARMS, Corrin hardly focused on Fates). Between those two things, Bandanna Dee has neither. He doesn’t have a game to advertise (which, wouldn’t Kirby already do that?) and it’s not something inherently “new”, like ARMS or Three Houses were.

It isn’t to say that Bandanna Dee is toast or something. He could get in. But it’s not a clear cut, obvious path. DLC picks obviously consider factors outside of popularity, first party newcomers appear to have been picked on factors that don’t help him either. Sakurai isn’t picking on his own, but would Nintendo go for it? I’m curious, but I’m not quite convinced they would. If Bandanna Waddle Dee were more of a standout in terms of popularity, then maybe; he’s highly divisive in ways that Ridley and K.Rool weren’t. But just the popularity on its own won’t do it imo.

Lastly, somewhat related, I played through Kirby Planet Robobot. Pretty good game! Too bad it’s pricey to get it used.

How about this: a vote to decide which series (already in Smash) gets a new stage. Yu-Gi-Oh is currently doing something similar with that "Create-a-Card" thing they're doing.
