I guess I wouldn't entirely mind Atelier considering it does have some history, but yeah, I'd really hope Ryza isn't the next reveal. If she's happening I think it would better further down the line, as Terry was with the first pass.

I think we're due for a big name third party reveal. Here's hoping the 20th delivers.

It's just that it's been the first time in a long while where it's a promotion for a game that isn't even out yet. Literal advertisement. Like yeah, it's cool what influence Alterier had on the scene, but you're telling me Nintendo chose that? Definitely ain't cause of no legacy, that's way too sus.

Thankfully it isn't real. At least, that's what I'm being spoonfed and I care too little to look into its legitimacy. :mybodyisreggie:

Yeah, an Atelier character getting in before Ryu Hayabusa or Lu Bu would be really weird. That'd be like if the first Square Enix character in Smash wasn't Cloud, but instead Aya Brea from Parasite Eve, or a character from Star Ocean.

I'm not sure Lu Bu really qualifies, since ya know, he's a real person.

His video game appearance is based on a more fantastical version of him from Rot3K, but that's a really weird gray area since, he really existed irl.

To be fair, Ninja Gaiden hasn't seen a lot of activity lately, and unlike Banjo there really isn't that much fan demand for Ryu.

God, can you imagine Lu Bu announcement? all the fire emblem characters brawling in Castle Siege and then the clopping of hooves, as Lu Bu comes in and blows them all away.

LU BU HAS ENTERED THE BATTLEFIELD

LU BU HAS ENTERED THE BATTLEFIELD
And then he fights the Abraham Lincoln Mii.

Honestly, the most shocking revelation for me today is how Dynasty Warriors has yet to be brought up in a random 4chan post leak despite being Koei-Tecmo's top franchise and having something planned for its 20th Anniversary while Atelier has just now gotten itself in 1 with an Aussie ratings board backing up a sequel to Ryza, and we all know Hayabusa has been around the scene for about a year and a half now.

Like I don't mind it since it'll throw a lot of people off the less it gets brought up, but man you'd think people would catch on even with the "real people" stigma.

I'm sure it is fake, but don't hold having an Origami King trailer against the leak: pretty much every Direct features a "go buy this game that just came out!" segment. If anything, it's the supposed Clubhouse Games DLC that's unlikeliest of all.

I mean, Dynasty Warriors hits too many check boxes against it, the big ones being

* Real People
* Adapted from a non-game source

Smash Ultimate technically already has characters that hit these check boxes: Dr. Kawashima (based on a real guy, who's even still alive and kicking unlike Lu Bu and everyone else in Dynasty Warriors) and Dracula (clearly his Castlevania version, but still technically based on a literary character).

Honestly, even if we didn't have a single character from the Switch era in Smash, I don't think it would stop certain people from immediately going "YOOOO THEY'RE GETTING INTO SMASH" whenever a game is ported to the Switch. I mean, that basically began before Smash Ultimate was ever even announced.

Dr. Kawashima shows that characters based on real people are fair game and Dracula shows that characters who are video game adaptations of characters from classic literature are fair game. There's really nothing stopping Dynasty Warriors.

So, I'm just going to post it here, for the sake of discussion, and because Geno discord and thread are going about it.
Something something, gamestop employee "Pamela Horton" review Origami King, and talk comparision about SMRPG, and how "People freaked out when Geno was announced in smash"

They think geno got leaked by gamestop. Idk what to say or think about it.

Except Dynasty Warriors has always been a video game franchise; it's Koei-Tecmo (or rather Omega-Force)'s take on that certain era of Chinese History with their versions of real life people.

It's not even like people are even talking about that thoe; it's outright not being mentioned so much when it comes to people talking about Koei-Tecmo characters from across all Smash related boards (here, gamefaqs, r/smashbros, twitter, etc.).

Like I said, it's an awkward grey area.

How far can you divorce the character from their source.

It's kinda the whole Geralt of Rivera situation. The Witcher games are different from the books, but they're based on a book.

NonSpecificGuy NonSpecificGuy are we really that small of a fanbase?
Not as small as Atelier, that’s for sure. Just going from the games themselves every iteration, not version, of Ninja Gaiden has sold over a million copies. Atelier’s highest grossing game is Ryza which has only barely hit 450,000. Overall Atelier has probably made more than Ninja Gaiden if we don’t take DOA into effect but Atelier is a annual franchise so it’s not a surprise it pulls in a pretty good bit.

In terms of the Smash fan base? Yeah, no, we’re not huge but we’re notable at the moment just because people have been paying attention. Even still, Atelier is almost NEVER in the public eye even for the games themselves let alone one of the characters in Smash.

I don’t see Atelier getting a character before Hayabusa gets in. The only character I can see taking a place over Hayabusa is William Adams from Nioh and that’s only because of the fact that Nioh is a ****ing hit right now.

KT did say they were hoping they could give Ninja Gaiden news “soon” last year and what that means is up in the air but it’d be quite nice if that news was either a new Ninja Gaiden, Hayabusa in Smash, or both. You never know.

I don’t think we’re a HUGE fan base but I don’t think that makes Atelier more likely just for the sake of it being brought up on a 4Chan post.

It's always been something that's been plausible, but the fact that she says that right as she shows the Spirit makes me question it.

I don't dislike Geno's chances, but he's by no means 'a lock', just wait to the 20th and see more or less.

I want to believe, but this seems more like its referring to the reception Geno received with his Mii Costume.

There's a big difference between Romance of the three Kingdoms and Dynasty Warriors. This is basically like the Fate situation: Real people and mythos being used but are so far detached from their source material that they're basically fictional characters who just happen to carry a bit of the historical name and lore but those incarnations are game characters.

And really, I doubt the real Lu Bu was able to cause earthquakes and volcanic anime explosions with one swing of his weapon, causing 1000s of soldiers to fly in the air like it's raining men.

And honestly Dynasty Warriors is an influential franchise that should get some recognition in some way at some point in Smash.

Do we have Hyrule Warriors Spirits in Smash? At all? I just kinda forgot we had Nintendo X Dynasty Warrior franchsie crossovers.

I have doubts Nintendo would tell random Gamestop employees of all people who was coming to Smash before an official announcement, lol.

...Also, why on earth would anyone compare SMRPG to OK, they're absolutely nothing alike. :drwtf:

Well, Paper Mario did more or less start as a direct sequel to SMRPG.

Not that that really matters anymore, but maybe that's the thought process behind it.

Nope. Not a thing. Nothing from FE Warriors either. It sucks, cause a lot of the music from both of them would be killer in Smash

Any kind of Musou love and acknowledgment would be nice at this point. Whether it's Dynasty Warriors in Smash or FE Warriors/Hyrule Warriors spirits. At least that is what I think.

Lol, the video shows footage of Sticker Star when talking about a spiritual successor to SMRPG rather than footage of 64 or TTYD. K' then.

"There's a reason people were freaking out when Geno was announced for Smash!"

Imagine this being real. Not trying to say it in a condescending way, just hear me out. It isn't the fact she would have confirmed him, it's the fact she was so ignorant to talk about a fanbase's reaction to a reveal that hadn't happened yet. And that's just way too ****ing sus for me unless this chick had the audacity to just mess that up so terribly. For that alone...

1594867752261.png

And I shall try to never speak of it again.

I mean, I could see comparing the first three to SMRPG, yeah. Pre-modern era Paper Mario's got loads of clear inspiration from SMRPG.

But Tanabe era Paper Marios? The devs of those games practically scream to the heavens about how they're not RPGs whenever a new one gets announced, so I'm not sure what comparisons there are to really make with an RPG. I don't got a problem with someone trying to compare 'em, but it does seem odd to me.

Pretty much. The way she words it makes me think they used the wrong clip and were meant to show the Sm4sh Mii Costume reveal instead.
Agreed. The way she worded that line and how the Geno spirit battle was shown REALLY makes me feel that this was a massive slip-up on her part.
