i wonder what awkward segue the ARMS presentation will have. maybe he'll talk about how his own arms are ironically calcified from working on video games. perhaps he'll say he wasn't able to play ARMS for himself to get a feel for the characters on account of his constantly breaking wrists. or maybe he looked at the characters in multiplayer by using 4 sets of joycons at once and using his fingers to control them all? god knows it's more interesting to me than whoever the actual character is at this point.
"You may be asking, 'what is ARMS?' And to that, I shall respond. Arms are the limbs with your hands" *cue the studio laughing*

You swap between their armies because their separated by force. A swap mechanic wouldn't make sense in that regard.
Personally, I think a swapping mechanic would make sense for any and every Fire Emblem character. The whole idea is that you use each character's strengths and weaknesses to their fullest extent in battle. They could also include permadeath: once a character gets KOed, you can't use them until you run out of characters to use (then it resets).

**** it, Lets have Niles in smash for those sweet sweet rated M voice lines
Including Niles instead of Fraisure? smh

In unexpected twist, Nintendo delays the reveal of the ARMS character till next week, ironically meaning that Springman will not appear until Summer.

Sakurai drops a 2 minute video talking about the ARMS character.

June 30, 11:59:59 PM

The character is released. Nintendo meets their deadline. The eShop crashes. The character has true 0 to deaths right out of the gate and is immediately propelled to top tier. Sakurai announces Tape from Paper Mario: Origami King as fighter #7.

I’d have him be K Rool’s weight, I think Bowser being the heaviest character still makes sense based on his body structure.
as far as cuts go, I can't see Nintendo removing any orf the original 12. The ones who are most likely to go are the echoes (or at least they're going to be changed into alt costumes like :ultalph:), 3rd party characters (like :ultbanjokazooie: sadly), and some characters from series with a lot of reps (like :ultpikachu::ultpichu::ultsquirtle::ultivysaur::ultcharizard::ultgreninja::ultjigglypuff::ultlucario::ultincineroar::ultmewtwo: and :ultmarth::ultlucina::ultroy::ultchrom::ultike::ultrobin::ultcorrin::ultbyleth:)
Weirdly enough, I can see:ultbanjokazooie: as one of the 3rd parties they keep. Based off of interviews, he was fairly easy for Nintendo to get into the game. I don’t see Microsoft doing anything with the character and will see it as getting another quick buck on a character that they’d otherwise get no money from.

Okay seriously.

When are we getting any E3 style news?

The only thing we got was Paper Mario which I assume was meant for E3 but we have nothing else.

They gotta show off their winter games SOME TIME.

Spring Man is basically confirmed. We just need to wait for his reveal trailer. Hopefully during e3 so he can swiggity swooty into Smash. He is about as obvious as it gets. Other than that, I pray for Black Shadow.
I mean, what was once likely then basically deconfirmed, is back on the table. You might get your wish very soon

I dunno I have a feeling this E3 was gonna be a very empty one by Nintendo and the cancellation of the event may have saved their asses.

This is a mentality I never got. The only time it was gonna happen :4drmario: Sakurai decided to back off at the last minute and make him a playable character like in Melee precisely because he was already a playable character in a previous instalment.

And really, what would people get from clones and Echoes being relegated to costumes? They're clones, they barely take time to develop, if anything we lose stuff in the process in exchange for nothing.

Yeah. I think that the Echoes are going to be kept because they're easy to create and implement.

I think it's pretty clear they weren't prepared to have a Direct in time for E3, which is partially understandable. But I'm also a bit critical of the radio silence aside from Paper Mario.

In terms of Vol 2, I am one of the people who already bought it because it's Smash. But there are plenty of folks who WANT to buy it, have no idea of what the contents are nearly 9 months after it was announced. That is INSANE.

That said, I do get the feeling that this week will have some news. I'm not all that concerned with Smash DLC overshadowing something else like a new game or another DLC.

Obviously, the Pandemic threw a wrench into Nintendo's plans. But I still find their struggle a bit crazy.

Especially since there's been plenty of video games/DLC that were still able to release on time, including some of Nintendo's own.

Honestly at this point, I've grown to expect more consistency and updates from third parties/indie developers than from Nintendo itself when it comes to Switch titles. Animal Crossing aside there's been no first party games of any real personal interest to me in these first six months, and the general drought of news even before the pandemic hit hard has left me pretty cynical about whatever news they do have.

I'm glad the company is profitable , that the Switch is still selling lot hotcakes, and that Xenoblade fans got a game that by most accounts appears to be excellent, but for me the last 8 months have just felt weak.

Nintendo's been dropping a bunch of announcements within the past few weeks, mind you nothing was particularly mindblowing apart from Paper Mario but they haven't exactly been completely quiet.

I think Nintendo has a lot to answer for right now IN GENERAL. People blame the pandemic for their weak line-up, but I distinctly recall The Game Awards being awful for their fans not just because no Smash, but because Nintendo's presence barely had anything to do with the show. This minimal approach lingered well into the pandemic, and I'd even argue the Mini-Direct didn't solve the problem.

It's Nintendo. They really take pride in being secretive amongst gaming companies, sometimes to a fault and a number of times for stuff that wasn't really worth it.
