Welp, let me tell you I was NOT expecting another deconfirmation today! Look, this may seem like a reach, but hear me out. They didn't outright completely hard deconfirm him for Fighter 5. Just say don't bet on it. So, it could be possible that character like Sora could possibly slip through the cracks of leakers, and would be kept close to the vest. Again, this reaching but hey, that's ALL we can do at this point! If he is really out though, then who does that narrow down to now?!

Oh man, 2B you're the only one one from my most wanted that I have left that hasn't been touched! MAKE IT THROUGH, THIS WEEKEND AND NEXT WEEK! PLEASE!!! You're the only one I have left to keep me somewhat sane!

the more I look at the current fighters pass lineup, the more it seems like they were chosen under the assumption that they would be the last additions Sakurai would ever add to smash (Reminder that they were likely decided prior to season 2 being greenlit).

Joker - Persona 5 was a personal fav of Sakurai's
Hero - A legendary Japanese series
Banjo- a longtime fan demand that seemed pretty much impossible
Terry - King of Fighters being the main reason we even got smash in the first place

character 5's definitely gonna be something special,

not necessarily hype inducing, but at the very least has a meaningful reason to be there

I like this line of thought quite a bit. I need to read the old Sakurai columns again and see if anything crops up.

Or Verge and Sabi could be "deconfirming" characters so that when the character is revealed and it turns out to be one that they said was not in, it will surprise people as intended. Verge and Sabi doing the lord Sakurai's best intentions by using their trust of people believing them to throw people off track to help bring surprise to the masses.

Or it could be someone no one would ever expect. Who knows? Only the future does.

Not a bold prediction on my part, but my gut is saying 2B, assuming all of these disconfirms are true and we get any announcements next week.

She makes perfect sense for this particular audience, as opposed to general Direct viewers. Nier Automata was pretty huge for it’s genre, and while it wasn’t quite mainstream, if you’re watching the VGA chances are you’re at least familiar with it. This is similar to our previous Game Awards reveal, Joker, whose main title was also never released on Nintendo’s consoles.
2B would be a shocker pick who (again, like Joker) would turn heads and create hype from more than just Nintendo fans. Unless she also gets shoved aside by our beloved insiders, I am putting all my chips on her.

A Samurai Warriors character (I think that's the one big KT property left, right?)

I think Chief's chances are alot higher now that there's Extra DLC and Banjo is in.

For FP5 she's definitely out, but I also think she has a good shot for post-pass.

Well, at least in my (biased) opinion. NieR in Smash has been one of my biggest dream wants ever since I played it last year.

I wouldn't call him an inevitability, he's still a bit out there, largely due to both Halo and the Xbox brand itself finding little success in Japan, but at the very least he's a candidate now, which is much better than before where he was largely just joked about. I highly doubt he's #5, I'm still sticking by no company double dipping on the Pass, and even post-Pass I'd bet on Steve over him, but I do still hope he'll be discussed as a serious contender, because if Nintendo want to blow people away he's a great pick for that.

Unpopular opinion, but... nah. Out of the three M-rated characters already in Smash, Snake and Bayonatta are campy as hell, and Joker is peak anime tropes. I've tried looking some, but I haven't really seem much from Master Chief supporters about what his *personality* would bring to the table in terms of fun factor. I'd honestly bet on Minecraft first.
