I just the leakers to deconfirm a first/second party rep so I can stop holding my breath. "It's not a Nintendo character" should've been one of the easiest things for the insiders to express.

Okay, let's go back to actual speculation: What kind of potential non-fighter characters like Isabelle can bring an interesting moveset to Smash?
Pedro from My Friend Pedro. He could probably hurt people somehow
It’s a shooting game but I always assumed Pedro was the banana on the cover

Okay, let's go back to actual speculation: What kind of potential non-fighter characters like Isabelle can bring an interesting moveset to Smash?

Is there any such characters you want and/or think are likely?
These are the most non-fightery characters that would be interesting to see in Smash, in ascending order of difficulty to implement:

1. Tony Hawk: The Pro Skater series was absolutely huge in the early to mid 00's, and he'd be a good rep for sports games that is lacking currently (except technically Wii Fit Trainer I guess). Also would be fairly easy to make a fun moveset around the skateboard. Has no actual chance of getting in though considering hes a real person and not, you know, a video game character.

2. A Sim, from The Sims: Another huge series from the 00's, I imagine would have similar mundane or 'accidental' attacks like Isabelle has. Though they are video game characters, they're just normal people with no distinguishing characteristics (apart from Simlish), so they also have pretty much no chance of getting in.

3. An actual Tetris piece: Yes, an actual Tetris piece. Well an ever-changing combination of them that is. One of the most historically significant games, currently represented by a couple songs. I don't know how you could turn a Tetris piece into a viable fighter, but I have faith in the all-knowing Sakurai to pull it off. It would also mean we could finally get a real Tetris stage! Also no chance to happen unfortunately.

But for non-fighter characters that could actually happen, the previously mentioned Phoenix Wright is by far the best shot. Cooking Mama and Professor Layton are also possibilities.

Haruka Amami. Dancing, Singing, Weaponized clumsiness.
Or Kirari Moroboshi. Singing and dancing again, but with sugary-sweet mannerisms. Weaponized glomps, and a giant robot final smash as well? >_>

There are lots of great idols you could go with, honestly. Hibiki with animals, Ranko with chuunibyou delusions, etc. Syoko would fit right in with the Mario crew since she uses mushrooms to power up. >_>

Beyond those though,
  • Carmen Sandiego with her tools, gadgets and propensity to steal things that cannot even logically be stolen.
  • Vibri. She's a vector rabbit that can stretch her limbs and turn into a frog, worm, and princess. I'm sure the Smash team can figure something out.
  • Hildibrand Helidor Maximillian Manderville. Would use gentlemanly poses and posturing for most abilities with assists from Nashu. Final Smash would likely involve Godbert and/or Julyan.
  • Shiori Fujisaki. Relationship Bomb Final Smash?
  • 'Pokemon TCG character': Likely Mark or Mint. Would suggest Imakuni?, but he's based on a real guy, so that sucks. Figure they can play like a Yu-Gi-Oh! anime character. >_>
  • A point-and-click/traditional adventure-game character. Manny Calavera, Guybrush Threepwood, Ashley Mizuki Robbins... I'm not super-picky here. >_>
  • A traditional VN character. Saber is the most likely, but that's boring so let's see them dig deeper. Key? Kuroneko? Nitroplus? Something like that.

Well there is Phoenix, Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons Farmer, Cooking Mama and (if you count them) Layton and Arle and probably some more. At least as far as third parties go.

I think they'd all bring some unique quirks into the game.

From one of one of the best selling game series of all time, yet would somehow still be unexpected. Comes from a game with a very large female demographic. The Sims moveset concepts I've read are unbelievably interesting and creative. There's just so much different stuff that they can reference. It's ridiculous.
The Sims is best known for being a PC-exclusive title, although the series has found its way into consoles in recent years. It’s never fully landed on Nintendo consoles, however, as we know, that doesn’t disqualify a character from being in the game. I feel like The Sims, or the entire simulation genre has been untapped in Smash, unless you count Animal Crossing, which is sort of The Sims Lite.

I would live my best life if Bella was in the game! I can see her Final Smash being something similar to summoning a Cow Plant and eating everyone or starting a fire with Sims panicking in the background as the fire consumes other characters and they explode and get launched.

Jesus christ, wasn't 2011 considered one of the biggest natural disasters in recent memory? Please stay safe, that sounds terrifying
Thanks. It’s rather nerve whacking. If something does happen, it would probably majorly disrupt Smash. Just look at what Hokkaido did with the Direct canceled when Isabelle was suppose to be shown.

While I don't think she's likely, I'll always push Style Savvy as hard as possible. Incredible unrepped aesthetic, an entire moveset based on sales and fashion and even a few idol moves, tons of sparkly effects, things like using makeup to change a character aesthetically or pummeling with a purse, a runway strut as a walk...She's just such fun, and the games just put a smile on my face.

Obviously Phoenix Wright and Professor Layton are going to be up there as well, especially if they lean into the puzzle solving aspects of Layton. Also, special shoutouts to Akari Hayami. An entire moveset based on extreme sports and jet skis and snowboarding would be a blast. I started supporting her and Ryota as a way to amuse myself and I ended up super fond of the idea as a whole. Maybe we'll never get Tony Hawk, but they're the next best thing.

Robloxian for Smash Bros. Roblox is a huge game among a younger audience and could attract a lot of new players who play Roblox often. And since most characters in smash are Nintendo, it could get a lot of younger kids wanting to play more Mario games and more obscure games they’ve never heard of. Roblox has never been on a Nintendo console, but that’s true for other characters, and it doesn’t disconfirm. Moveset and alternate outfits wouldn’t be too hard to imagine, and the outfits could have reference to actual content creators from Roblox.

I feel like the avatar from Kinect Sports would be a better way to get a moveset based on extreme sports like that.

Edit: Kinect Sports actually has normal sports. Kinect Adventures would probably have a better moveset with extreme sports.

I mean, you do you, but Ryota and Akari are actually Nintendo characters so they're very slightly more likely. I say very slightly because we haven't had a Wave Race or 1080 game in like two decades but

That said, Kinect Adventures has like hang gliding and stuff right? That could be neat.

Carmen Sandiego is a great pick, with a visually distinct design. One of those characters that you don't realise you want until someone else suggests it.

Also props for pulling out Vibri as the obscure pick. That was a fun game.

Fair enough. One is more recent (not by much though, it’s been almost ten years) but I do think you’re right about them being more likely, being with Nintendo and all. But to be honest, it wouldn’t be too hard to get a nameless character from a 10 year old video game from Microsoft. It’s all about whatever Nintendo wants to do.

Yeah, I remember hang gliding in it. It’s been a while since I played it. I also remember it having canoe racing and some other stuff. I remember there being a race in a cart, and you had to turn in certain directions to get to the end faster, or something like that. So that leaves a lot of options for a side special, if there were a moveset

This might be true but the sales start adding up eventually. They made more Sims games for Nintendo than Sony.

That's not even all of them. lmao

If it is someone from a rhythm game like Dance Dance Revolution or Idolmaster I see some unique mechanics like rhythm based Final Smashes

What would be your reactions if the character ends being catalyna from Grand blue and that old leak turns to be real all this Time?

A fighter wouldn't work because real people and everyone would hate it if it was Officer **** or Eric Sparrow, but a stage like Warehouse could. THPS is the kind of game that doesn't need to be represented with a fighter. like many other mentioned here but that's all I will say.

She looks cool, I'm in.

Carmen is my biggest pipe dream. I'm a huge fan; I literally dressed up as her a couple of months ago for Halloween lol.

Her soundtracks are actually pretty good, too; they kinda transport you to different locations. China, Morocco, and Brazil from Where in the World are three standouts, IMO. The China theme reminds me of a Shen Yun performance or something. It's graceful and majestic. Morocco is very atmospheric. Brazil is festive.

And here's a potential victory theme:

If you're interested, I created a moveset concept for Carmen that's an amalgamation of every version of her. It's a long read, but it's worth skimming at least.

Carmen Sandiego can steal items by simply walking pass other characters. Additionally, there's a 1/8 chance that she swipes items by hitting you. In fact, Carmen is such a good thief, she can even steal things like charged/stored projectiles (like Samus' charge shot, for example), buffs/status effects (Deep Breathing buffs, Monado arts, etc.), and take pocketed items away from Villager/Isabelle. Carmen can activate what she steals by pressing the neutral B button.

Down Special - The Babble On Ray (based off of the Babble on Machine from Word Detective). To teach players the importance of language, Carmen Sandiego steals their abilities to speak coherently by zapping them with her latest invention. It prevents characters from using any special moves for up to 15 seconds, or until they hit Carmen. Fortunately, Carmen likes a challenge, so the move can only be used up to 6 times per stock. Hopefully, keeping track of all of this will improve your math skills! Additionally, all sounds the opponent character makes while affected is distorted gibberish.

Side Special - Grappling hook. If tilted, Carmen drags opponents to her (Scorpion style). However, if the button is pressed like a Smash attack, after grappling the opponent, Carmen follows up with a kick attack to the face (they never protect the face). The smash version has a chance to steal whatever item the player is carrying once Carmen kicks them away. The grappling hook also doubles as a tether recovery.

Up Special - Paraglider. Press up B once to make Carmen dramatically leap in the air. Surprise! Press B again for Carmen to whip out her paraglider for a stylish escape like:

Final Smash - Where in Time/Where in the World? The capture robot appears on screen, but Carmen dodges it and vanishes. Cue brief cinematic cutscene with an ACME detective acquiring clues/looking at a map of the world trying to pinpoint Carmen. End cutscene. Carmen returns and drops a random historical landmark (Pyramid/Statue of Liberty/Eiffel Tower/etc.) or even stage hazards from other levels that deals massive damage.

Jumping animation:

Taunt: She's gotta have the signature hat tilt:

View attachment 241432

Another taunt can involve looking directly at the screen (you) and saying, "Try to catch me, player."

Her tilt attacks can be hand-to-hand combat. She has a lot of fight scenes to work with. I think her dodging a mouse cursor (like Duck Hunt dodges the zapper) for a couple of Smash attacks would be cool, too. She also has a boatload of vehicles, gadgets, and lackeys at her disposal, if they want to incorporate any of that.

Her new Netflix show is also really good; I'm glad it introduced another generation to such an iconic character.

It would be random as hell but I wouldn't mind it that much. She looks cool (pun intended), has neat powers and Granblue has a gorgeous presentation.

So, a big "huh?!" followed by "eh, not bad".

I'd love it. Almost everything I know about Granblue is from hype fighting game trailers lol. Everything else is from that one upcoming ARPG (Relink). That and every ice using sword wielder I can think of is cool (also pun intended). Jin (Blazblue), Mitsuru (Persona), Weiss (RWBY), etc. Most importantly, we'd get her theme song though.

She'd be a pretty dope mobile game rep; I can think of people a whole lot worse.

Midly upset that we're getting a character from a trash mobile game that isn't from my preferred trash mobile game.

That’s why I barley ever go for my favorite characters, it’ll always end in disappointment.

I would be perfectly down for the Chief. He’s really the one character that would totally blow off the roof in terms of characters. He’s been the whole “What’s next?! MASTER CHIEF?!?” Boogeyman of Smash Speculation so having him in would be quite legendary and ground breaking.
Ditto here. In fact that's who I'm betting on for FP5 at this point.

Others that'd be surprising would be Dovahkiin, Sony rep and Travis Touchdown.

Then there's one of the more dark horse picks like John Marston or an GTA rep.
