Most likely, Sabi probably doesn't feel like they are 100% sure yet so they aren't saying anything. Remember, if Sabi is wrong; they have the most to lose out of anyone.

The source is still really accurate.

So consider this like a typical AA case where Phoenix has a 90% of losing, but still may be able to turn it around.

It's probably better to assume that Capcom is out though.

Not to gloat but while everyone is waiting for thier most wanted character for F5, I have my most wanted character right now. It’s not a demon swordsman thirsting for souls, a JRPG protag wielding dual swords, or a crazy marsupial but a 2 day old little baby girl. Sadly, my oldest has the flu so we can’t visit mom and baby in the hospital until Friday unless she still has the flu. Japanese hospitals keeps the mom and baby for at least a week.

Back to our scheduled programming, I really think that we are throwing way to many curveballs and stretches for F5. I know there aren’t too many Ninty characters left if you consider spirits But perhaps we should try to look inward instead of at every possible major gaming franchise? I have a strong hunch it’s gonna be a FE:3H Rep. I hope it’s not but that’s a gut feeling. Honestly though, I’m not one to put too much stock in insiders and leakers but we seriously have a small list to work on. Akira Howard seems wayyyy to early. Personally, I’m ok with any character really as long as they are fun, brings hype, makes fans happy, and is represented well in Smash.

Still hoping for Scorpion and 2B. I have been warming up to Sol as of late.

If that whole Capcom thing is true then I would be hurt. I was REALLY starting to dig the idea of Phoenix too. He was becoming one of my top most wanted. I don't regret replaying through Ace Attorney again, through Smash speculation though.

That's probably the best thing to come out of all of this. My new fond appreciation of Ace Attorney and as a remind me that, "Oh yeah, I do love these games!"

Okay, might as well bite. I figure the movement of Gravity Rush is its biggest feature, but what is the goal of it? Is it get to the end of a level like Super Meat Boy or like Batman Arkham City where you got a destination, overworld, go do ****.

It's a wide open sandbox game with a story mode, side activities, and quests. Think Spiderman (PS4), but you can fly around everywhere instead. The more you progress in the story, the more places you can explore. You acquire most of your abilities early on in the game, but you can level Kat up by finding and collecting gems, defeating enemies, completing time based challenges, etc. There are also a couple of secret maneuvers that the game doesn't tell you about directly. You'll figure them out anyway.

The sequel has a significantly larger map and Kat gains two new transformations that she can switch to on the fly. Aside from her default mode (which is all of her powers in the first game but better), she acquires a low gravity mode that let's her do stuff like teleport, and a Hulk-like high gravity mode that turns her body and the environment into a weapon of mass destruction.

The sequel also has a camera and you can use it to take pictures of special landmarks and for scavenger hunt type quests.

There was a team that worked specifically on the sidequests in GR2, so there's a larger variety of them, but some are very hit or miss. I don't mind the casual 'slice of life' feel that they have to them, but that's not everyone's cup of tea.

There's also a survival challenge mode that's basically like the Cave of Ordeals from Twilight Princess. I haven't completed that yet, so IDK how deep it goes.

The servers are down, but there used to be a boatload of online features and challenges with multiplayer aspects to them. You can no longer earn the rewards, IIRC. D: The scoreboard might still be up though, so trying to get on it is an additional thing to do after you beat the game.

I beat the first game three times and the second one twice, but it's always fun to just pick up and goof around with, especially when ya play your own music in the background. I'm also a sucker for the combat challenges; when you master it, it is unbelievably gratifying, especially in the sequel. There's nothing like Superman jumping high into the air, switching to heavy Hulk mode, and dropping back down at lightning speeds to create a powerful shockwave. Then after switching to normal mode after landing, you gravity slide over to a bad guy, leviate them with your powers, and throw them off a cliff. By then, your special bar is full, so you turn into a literal blackhole to clear out the rest of area.

Vergeben is incredibly inconsistent and Sabi seems to show some doubts about Veg’s claims about Namco and level 5 deconfirmations.

I do think there is a very, very small possibility that Vergeben could’ve been given false info, and Namco could still very well be Fighter #5.

I remember this comment he made on Reddit regarding Tekken leaks:

This was a year ago, when Harada just headed only Tekken. Since May, he’s been promoted to General Brand Manager of Namco, a role that allows him to oversee pretty much all of Namco’s original IPs. If Namco actually turned out to be Fighter #5, I could see Harada being involved, and it could explain some of this deconfirming ****ery that’s been going on with Sabi’s and Vergeben’s sources lately.

For now though, I’m gonna take Vergeben’s word on there being no Namco for Fighter #5. He’s gotten more right than wrong so far regarding Smash.

I'm kind of doubting that a 3H rep would be the one to end the pass. We did get Corrin during Smash 4, but to me, even as an FE fan, I hardly belive it would be the case. If Nintendo learned about the salt from teh community after that incident, then I can safely assume that the 3H rep would be post-pass.

Bayonetta ended DLC last time and that was huuuuge regardless how you looked at it. This is a bit different as we have future DLC characters coming up after this. While it’s not confirmed it’ll be another Fighter Pass, it’s not the “end-all-be-all” fighter like like time. If they feel like they need to break the Internet with F5, then what about the very last DLC character? Is it gonna be a reveal that beaks the planet because that’s what fans will come to expect.

Honestly, it's kind of exciting having a round of deconfirmations, assuming they have truth to them of course.

I think it pretty well shows that Fighter 5 might not be a "Highly Requested" character. We have plenty of time for fan-favorites down the road, I want to be baffled by this newcomer the same way and made my jaw drop.

This feels weird, but if all of the disconfirmation leaks are true, I feel somewhat confident about Story of Seasons. It actually feels like a real possibility right now to me. And I don't know what to do about that. There aren't that many 3rd party characters left that excite me in terms of Smash, so if it were to happen that would be wild. Bomberman and Goemon would be the two left for me, which is naturally bittersweet since they are both in already in some form and are unlikely to be playable any time soon.


In the interest of discussion though, what less obvious or non-frontrunner characters are you all rooting for? We talked about how speculation has been fairly laser focused on characters that were perceived by the community as front runners recently, and now that that all seems to be out the window I'm curious who everyone is hoping for. I think we all know there are nigh limitless possibilities. Most just never really get discussed seriously.

Give them hoes, watering cans, sickles, and hammers and axes and let them meme thier way into Smash! Like they could throw tomatoes, ride horses, cause everyone to collapse form exhaustion, etc. Power Berrys for small boosts of power and maybe even a Pocketing like ability. And, more importantly, then can plant and harvest crops which all have different properties. Like Villager and Olimar and Peach put together.

I think it depends on the game/era of the franchise. I believe Pete is the most popular iteration. Though I wouldn't mind Jack either since then I could feel like I'M in Smash. Which would be neat. lol

Grant Never Explicit Said Banjo wasn't in. He said not to hold your breath, but that really doesn't Exactly say if Banjo is in or not. Suda and Shinji were Explicit and straight to the point owever in saying Travis and Sora Respectfully aren't in Smash (at the moment). Even worse for Travis, that interview is actually the 2nd time Suda Said Travis wasn't in Smash

Oh, Story of Seasons would be cute! Considering Animal Crossing is already in, I think a farming/life sim rep would fit in just fine, and SoS is pretty much the fountainhead of that genre.

And, to repeat a broken record at this point... still rooting for an indie character. Yea, they're mostly new series, without a proven "legacy," but... a lot of the most popular ones are perfecting classic genres, innovating new ideas for game mechanics, or both, providing as good an experience as can be managed on a low budget. There's a pretty good well of charming character designs with interesting mechanical hooks to pull from. If I had to get a "western franchise rep," it's hard for me to imagine many recent AAA series that would excite me as much, since I'm honestly just... not that excited by realistic adult human characters. It's just a personal preference, I guess.

Like they could throw tomatoes, ride horses, cause everyone to collapse form exhaustion, etc. Power Berrys for small boosts of power and maybe even a Pocketing like ability. And, more importantly, then can plant and harvest crops which all have different properties. Like Villager and Olimar and Peach put together.

One thing I think would be interesting to set the Story of Seasons/Harvest Moon farmer apart is if s/he had a pitchfork for a lot of their normal moves, almost as a “spear fighter”. A lot of the farming and ranching aspect could be expressed through special moves.

Oh, Story of Seasons would be cute! Considering Animal Crossing is already in, I think a farming/life sim rep would fit in just fine, and SoS is pretty much the fountainhead of that genre.

And, to repeat a broken record at this point... still rooting for an indie character. Yea, they're mostly new series, without a proven "legacy," but... a lot of the most popular ones are perfecting classic genres, innovating new ideas for game mechanics, or both, providing as good an experience as can be managed on a low budget. There's a pretty good well of charming character designs with interesting mechanical hooks to pull from. If I had to get a "western franchise rep," it's hard for me to imagine many recent AAA series that would excite me as much, since I'm honestly just... not that excited by realistic adult human characters. It's just a personal preference, I guess.

Not to gloat but while everyone is waiting for thier most wanted character for F5, I have my most wanted character right now. It’s not a demon swordsman thirsting for souls, a JRPG protag wielding dual swords, or a crazy marsupial but a 2 day old little baby girl. Sadly, my oldest has the flu so we can’t visit mom and baby in the hospital until Friday unless she still has the flu. Japanese hospitals keeps the mom and baby for at least a week.

Back to our scheduled programming, I really think that we are throwing way to many curveballs and stretches for F5. I know there aren’t too many Ninty characters left if you consider spirits But perhaps we should try to look inward instead of at every possible major gaming franchise? I have a strong hunch it’s gonna be a FE:3H Rep. I hope it’s not but that’s a gut feeling. Honestly though, I’m not one to put too much stock in insiders and leakers but we seriously have a small list to work on. Akira Howard seems wayyyy to early. Personally, I’m ok with any character really as long as they are fun, brings hype, makes fans happy, and is represented well in Smash.

Still hoping for Scorpion and 2B. I have been warming up to Sol as of late.
