I don't like Vergeben as a person because he seems to dislike autistic people or treat it as a joke going off of a couple of comments from him, but as a leaker he's gotten pretty much everything right, and the Minecraft stuff was from a different source of Verge's that ended up being discredited anyway. Using Vergeben as a basis for speculation is perfectly fine.

I guess the female player character from AC doesn't exist in Smash because she's an alternate costume and is called Villager instead of what I expected despite having no canonical name just like Erdrick.

I apologize, I’ve been told that Erdrick doesn’t have a canonical name. I don’t play Dragon Quest, and didn’t know that. I’m sorry for jumping to conclusions.

I never said he didn’t exist in smash, and I never claimed or implied that I could just change who is in smash and who isn’t. I wasn’t aware that the character had no canonical name. What I was claiming is that since, technically, since the character with no canonical name is only an alternate outfit, meaning he is technically not a fighter. And, even if it’s because he doesn’t have an actual name, since he has the same name as the main outfit, he is less represented by Smash than Alph. I had never said he wasn’t represented in Smash, but it wasn’t exactly how people had expected him to get in.

Feels that the whole last NES icon is a stretch, as you are being picky about the other characters just to remove them from the claim. Going by those standards Ninja Gaiden hasn't received a good game since the new NG2 as Yaiba was awful and 3 was mediocre as hell, heck he hasn't made any appearances outside for being a guest in the DoA games.

I love Hayabusa but this ain't it.

Yeah, but Ninja Gaiden did have a really notable comeback in the mid-2000s. I remember Ninja Gaiden being one of those really big Xbox exclusives during that 2005-2010 era that got a lot of people talking about this character and franchise again. Even if they eventually messed up his return, he's genuinely the only NES character not in Smash I can think of to have had that sort of really notable comeback and return to prominence that saw such success. I'm not just trying to hype Hayabusa up here through bull****, I just really can't think of any other NES characters that had such a return to the forefront of gaming like that. Ninja Gaiden was the gold standard for 3D action games there for a while alongside Devil May Cry.

Yes, other NES characters of note have come back, but not to that degree. And this all just sort of trying to frame why I think people speak of him as "the last NES icon"

It would also be really nice to have to focus on characters that have more modern history and relevancy to the gaming scene past 1996, and the NES well has been hit so many times that our crops can't survive anymore... so I do admit I might be more criticial of the others than I should be.
