LMAO this thread is such a bad idea. So many random players trying to get into the BR. It's funny though..

Anyway, I wanna vouch for Hylian since he actually knows his stuff and has a lot of experience.

+1 Hylian ^_^
Thanks a lot :).

Good games at Apex. Ike is beast lol.
I've never heard of this Hylian dude, does he main Link?

SSB64: Jigglypuff
SSBM: Jigglypuff
SSBB: Marth and Jigglypuff
SSBB+: Jigglypuff

Tournament experience: Sadly, none; I lack a method of transportation, friends who are interested in smash, or understanding parents. Nobody near me cares about it except me, and I'm too young anyway. Fortunately, I should be able to attend in a few months as I'm starting college and will have quite a bit more freedom.

Interests and Contributions: The reason I wish to be part of the WBR is for the sake of helping to contribute towards the balance and overall smash experience of Brawl+ and its players. I often become quite knowledgeable about the deep intricacies and mechanics of games that I like; for example, I can state the Disgaea 1 weapon leveling stat formulas, the exact placement of nearly every hidden block in World 5 of SMB3, extremely precise frame-level Arcueid combos in MBAC, and so forth. The Smash series is one of those games that I am truly interested in, and as such I began to study it in far more detail three years ago. As a WBR member, I would serve to provide input and information towards balancing characters, Jigglypuff in particular, since I believe that the most knowledgeable about a character should be the ones to balance it. I truly wish to contribute towards such a project and to make sure that the voices of the Jigglypuff mains are not lost in the cacophony of screams for Marth/Fox/Falcon/Shiek nerfs/buffs. I believe that the best way to do this is to join the WBR, where my voice will be heard and accepted.

I understand that the metagame of a fighting game is not simply as easy as nerfing or buffing moves as I see fit, and that a metagame is something that develops over time as players learn the specifics, intricacies, weaknesses, and glitches of a character and capitalize on things that should be capitalized upon and avoid things that do not give an advantage. I understand that the first instinct upon seeing a move that is extremely good is not to nerf it, but rather to consider the impact of that move upon the character as a whole compared to others, possible uses for it, and make a change accordingly. I understand that a fan-based project such as this will often result in dissonance and discord among the community, and it is the job of the WBR, who is the central group, to both make a final decision and to explain the reasoning and logic behind such a decision. I believe that I am capable of acting properly and fittingly with such considerations in mind and that the input I hold towards balancing characters will be both pertinent and applicable, with no excessive and unnecessary buffs, nor excessive and unneeded nerfs.

I understand the different important technical aspects, such as framerates, hitboxes, and such. Unfortunately, I cannot actually code, but I am more than capable of holding up an argument even if it goes down to the nitty-gritty frame advantage situations.

I post on SWF daily, but usually only in the B+ section, though I still constantly browse through the Melee and Brawl sections of the forum. Although I may have an extremely tiny and nonexistent smash community in my immediate environment, I have successfully converted several people in the many internet communities that I frequent, oftentimes without shoving it in their faces, nor giving Brawl+ an elitist and/or pushy reputation.

Sonic Usmash discussion. A few silly points made, and a few decent points made. This was pretty much the first contribution I ever tried to make.

Peach Fair frame advantage discussion. One thing to note here is that there was quite a large mistake concerning her frame advantage (which was calculated at +22) due to a misunderstanding about the actual shield stun. This problem was fixed later on when pointed out.

Suggested Jigglypuff aerial mobility buff.

One thing that I would like to mention concerning several..."foolish"...posts in the Nightly Builds thread is that although many of my posts were clearly pointless, useless, and promoted absolutely absurd ideas, please understand that it was truly one of the only ways that I could get my voice heard above the others, and much of the suggestions (dair buff, fsmash buff) were made mostly in jest and not in an actual attempt to have them instated. Of course, there was also several suggestions I made in which I was serious, but soon learned that I was quite mistaken regarding many points, such as my proposed utilt buff and rest hitbox increase. This was done due to the points and reasoning raised by others in reply to my rather silly propositions, showing that although I may not raise the best points, I can accept the input of others to come to a better overall understanding of the situation and to learn more about the game as a whole.

Recommendations and Balancing:
I think that GHNeko might recommend me. I won't count on it, though, since he probably won't.

Metaknight: The issue with Metaknight lies in two major areas: one, his incredibly quick, powerful, disjointed moves with great range, and two, given the physics of Brawl, his moves are virtually unpunishable. If I were to balance him, I would keep in mind his playstyle, or namely, that of an aerial combo/gimping character with greatly mobility and fast attacks, while emphasizing his weaknesses, or namely, his lightness, and the fact that most of his moves shouldn't hit that hard. The problem with the weaknesses lies in that should I decrease the power of his moves, they would only serve to act as incredibly potent combo moves to rack up huge amounts of damage in a very low amount of time, resulting in a character with great combos and great damage. Therefore, I would first and foremost add a tiny amount of winddown to most of his attacks; enough so that they are noticeable, but not enough to be easily punishable, nor to prevent him from comboing upon a successful hit. I would also give winddown to his dsmash, and greatly nerf the killing power while retaining the speed of it. I would increase the knockback trajectory of Shuttle Loop to a more upwards diagonal in order to prolong the life of the opponent while keeping it a viable kill move that is incredibly powerful, and I would greatly decrease the killing potential of the glide attack in order to prevent Shuttle Loop > glide attack camping. I would add a tiny bit of winddown to a few of his throws as well, meaning that with proper DI he will be unable to combo at higher percentages, while retaining comboability at smaller percentages. I would leave his specials mostly untouched, except for a lot more winddown on his Tornado to make it easier to punish.

Bowser: The issue with Bowser lies in two major areas: one, although he is supposed to be built like a tank, he dies far too easily and is susceptible to far too many moves, and two, none of his attacks combo, while they lack enough power to make up for it. Now, as for the tank area, the problem lies in that he is very easy to combo and is oftentimes nothing more than a massive walking hurtbox. To make up for it, I would give two or three frames of superarmor to his Fsmash to support the "tank" aspect and make his upB slightly faster to buff his OOS options. I would give a blanket BKB, KBG, and damage buff to him, though not so much that it would be broken; perhaps 1-2% extra every move, 2-3 more BKB, and 3-5 more KBG. This would make his attacks far more powerful. However, I would not touch his ALR outside of the Brawl+ default, nor would I speed up any of his moves, seeing as he is not a "speed" character but a "power" character. I would also increase the hitbox of utilt, considering the awful range it has.

* Smash Bros. tournament experience: Competitive melee since late 2006. Brawl since release. I've been to too many tournaments to count. At the prime of my melee career I was ranked 6th in NJ. I'm currently 10th on the MD/VA. I'ive beaten a lot of notable players in brawl and melee...brawl+ too. I placed 5th at a brawl+ tournament in philly beating ninja link. At the apex brawl+ tournament I also placed 5th beating Meep and Dojo. In melee, I mained peach. In Brawl, I main Wario with G&W and peach as secondaries. In brawl+ i main peach with G&W as a secondary.

* Interest and Contributions: I'm getting more interested in brawl+. Silven peaked my interest at apex. I want to be part of the WBR because I see that this game has a lot of potential and with each release, its been getting better. characters :
Falco, Charizard in Brawl+
Don't play vBrawl
Young Link in Melee (see my combo video... all 24 minutes of it lol) I've actually mained pretty much every character in Melee at one point or another.
Captain Falcon in 64

I have hosted two tournaments of my own, running Brawl, Brawl+, Melee, and SF4. I got 3rd in my B+.

I have entered countless Melee tournaments. I couldn't count them if I tried. There are little to no Melee players in South Carolina for the past 8 years or so, so I had to travel to Georgia for the most part. If I had to estimate, I'd say something like 35 tournaments all in all.

I do not tend to place to high. I do better in teams. I have teamed with TheReflexWonder on numerous occasions in Melee. Usually using low tiers. I am something of a low tier expert, myself.

I have Smash all my life since the first one came out. I am the most knowledgeable person in my state, and keep up with tier discussions and whatnot as much as possible. Melee was my life for a long time. I really enjoy Brawl+ and am constantly testing out the new nightly builds as they are released. I play with a good number of folks here in SC and watch pretty much every match, consuming the smash data as I do. When people have a question about any of the games, they come to me.

I really look forward to an opportunity to help out this community, as all I've been doing is posting in the Nightly Builds thread every now and again. I posted a little in the Falco forums as well, wondering if anyone else found themselves using Utilt too much (as in, instead of his other moves)

Post in Falco+ forums...

not exactly what I'd call well received, really, hah. I did not want to continue disrupting their discussion, so I didn't persue it much.

My tournament thread

so you know I'm not full of ****

I lurk the Melee > Young Link forums pretty much each day. Always posting around there.
As well as the Atlantic South, particularly the social room.
--

I didn't look at anyone else's posts before writing these. wanted to make sure it's all LEEEEGIT.

For Meta Knight...
I would suggest finding a way to make him easier to KO without compromising his ability to be combo'd. I play with MK a lot and feel, often, that I should die earlier than I do (what with DI and all) If there was some way to make him lighter after 100% for instance, that would be pretty cool, but I doubt the possibility.
Instead I would look at dropping his dash speed a tad, and reducing the hitbox range on his Ftilt. Perhaps a wise decision would be to increase the lag on his air moves.

Shouldn't we be more concerned with Snake and Fox...? or is it just me? heh

For Bowser...
I don't think Bowser's TOO awful, however... I would recommend speeding up his dash attack, to allow for combos more easily. His Dtilt might be better off if the first hit had 0 knockback, but I am not certain on this, just an idea.

Perhaps super armor could be added to later parts of his Dair, to make it more acceptable as a move. Or, maybe, it could be added to his downsmash.

If not, you could always go for the theme of making Bowser stronger (Ike) and allowing his current weaknesses as some form of balance.

I'd like to toss a recommendation to Arkaether, whom I've watched post around and acknowledged.

LMAO this thread is such a bad idea.
I wasn't aware that, an idea the SBR does from time to time, was bad. I'm pretty sure when the SBR does this, they also get applications sent in from people you wouldn't expect to be picked for the SBR.

Kind of insulting, Silven, you're so mean. It hurts when you don't trust us with who we pick. :(

Silven, this happens with every applicant. We will use major discretion in our admissions, this will be meant to serve as a very selective addition to bring in high caliber applicants who are both knowledgeable in competitive environments AND willing to be actively contributing to this project.

Characters used in each game
SSB64; Fox, Falcon, Jiggs
Melee; Falco, Fox, GnW
Brawl; GnW, Dedede, Bowser, Ganon
Brawl+; Lucario, Marth, Metaknight

Tournament Experience
I have participated in a tournament scene for every smash game;
Smash64 was the first game I played tournaments in, online but regardless they were still tournaments with very little lag.
Melee I attended many of Scar's tournaments, Clash of Titans 2 and 3 hosted by ChiboSempai, and a few of the no johns biweeklies hosted by Alukard.
Brawl I have attended a large amount of events and have beaten very good players such as Azen. In my state PA I'm currently ranked 1st in brawl
Brawl+ I attended the first large scale brawl+ tournament Beyond the Limit hosted by ChiboSempai and placed 4th.

Reasoning for wanting to join and contribution
I want to be apart of the WBR because I can see the potential in brawl+, because of how the community can change the very existence of the metagame in brawl+. I want to join so I can give suggestions on how the current characters work on the current codeset by testing most if not all characters. What I mostly do is check to see how well some characters combo other characters or if some characters can literally zero to death other characters. I also check to see how much damage some characters can do in combo's and how escapable they are.

SSBB+: Fox, Captain Falcon, Snake, Wolf, Wario, Ganondorf

Tournament Experience:

I was ranked #6 twice and #10 once on the NJ Brawl Power Rankings, and I've placed top 5 or higher at most tournaments I've entered when I used to compete in Brawl.

I have made it to Grand Finals in three out of the three Brawl+ tournaments I've been to:

2nd place at Drexel Biweekly #7
1st place at The Ultimate Splooken Method #2
2nd place at Apex Brawl+ tournament

Interests and contributions:

I highly enjoy brawl+. It's an experience that I rarely had in vBrawl. I feel that I can make a difference in the game's development. I want to see Brawl+ become a widely recognized competitive game, and not just a "side game" at Tournaments.

As of now I've been making some suggestions through current WBR members such as Leafgreen and Shell, with the help of input from Teh_Spamerer. I look forward to helping more in the future. I've given my input to Leafgreen over aim, which he can attest to, but I cannot show because I don't save my conversations, and with Shell via PM's, which I unfortunately cleared my PM box due to it being full.

Recommendations:
I have been recommended by both Shanus and Chibosempai.

EDIT: Also nominated by Leafgreen

Brawl+: Dedede, Kirby, and a few secondaries.

Tournament experience: I've been to quite a few large scale tournies, including Clash of the Titans 4 (33rd) and Apex (45th). Also, I attended Beyond the Limit and finished 4th in doubles, teaming with JCaesar. Overall, I'm still relatively new to the tournament scene, especially compared to the bigger names out there, but I know my way around a bracket.

Site Contributions: Nothing big as of yet. I'm currently working on a Dedede+ guide. Process is coming along a little slow, but it's moving nonetheless.

Reason for applying: Simply put, I enjoy regular Brawl more than B+. But, this allows me to nitpick and point out small things that annoy me, and possibly others. Granted, some of these things may be related to game mechanics and poor player skill, but others may prove to be simply broken and necesary to tone down.

Also, I'm one of few members thoroughly investigating Single Player B+. Once the final B+ product is released, perhaps a few people such as myself and others who are interested could look into Stadium+ and delve even deeper, maybe even releasing a Single Player only Brawl+ codeset.

I have high hopes for B+, especially in the Single Player sense. Given the right tools and hard working citizens, this game may have what it takes to overtake Brawl in the popularity department.

But, that's a really BIG "may."

I'd just like to clarify -- the Boozer / MK question was asking what you would do to them from scratch, not in addition to their current tweaks.
Oh, okay. Updated my post then if I had to go from scratch.

-Your forum name: nevershootme (In tournaments i go by 8-Bit)

-The character(s) you play:
Smash 64: I don't play too much, but favorites are Mario, Falcon, Pikachu

Melee: Peach, Sheik (This was long before I knew about smashboards and tier lists)

Brawl: MK, Snake, Olimar, ZSS, G&W (Mostly Snake and MK in tournaments)

Brawl+: MK, ZSS, Sheik, Falco

-Smash Bros. tournament experience:
I've hosted tournaments mostly in the Miami, FL area and I actually live minutes away from some of the best players in the state in various characters. To note: Seibrik, Lambchops, ESAM, Nick Riddle, Afro Thundah, Players at my school (FIU). I've troubleshoot many tournament hosts on their bad methods and provided suggestions to running better tournaments, even to one extent I sacrificed my fun time (on my own birthday) to take over a tournament due to inconsistent roles the host made (Relied on my own computer to run the brackets). I have also assisted tournament hosts at the same time in order to make things run smooth.

I've provided hours of tournament footage during the last year (all on youtube) and met amazing players in FL and some OOS in person: DaShizWiz, ChuDat, Inui to name a few, I've also traveled to Houston, TX to play a bit of smash with some of the residents (Although I would like to meet with Xryo or anyone else for that matter :( ). I've also provided live streams in the past (Especially the 17 hour live stream coverage of Gigabits March in Orlando, FL, lasting until 6am). To this day I've been regularly provide any live stream footage and upload match videos when I get the chance.

I've been playing Brawl tournaments since the Japanese release and through time, I've developed visions of seeing how characters work out and why they are dumb. I've placed top 8 on occasion on local tournaments, and rarely get the chance to attend OOS tournies, but I always keep in touch with the community and will always be up to date on performing well in tourney.

-Interest and Contributions:
My interest is heavily based on Game Design, primarily on Mechanics. This the most important thing to designing a balanced fighting game. I've been pondering day by day as I played vBrawl and I keep saying things in my head how this game is ridiculously stupid at times. When it came to Brawl+, the moment I played it, I said, "This is what vBrawl should be... not some bs like tripping (I mean, why does pivot tripping exist somehow!)" To this day, some people are not as analytical, only a select few can see it. I am an Engineer IRL, and I analyze things regularly and try to string the balance to what Brawl would have been, and to make all characters fair and equal (a la Guilty Gear). Since then I've been playing with the nightly builds from shanus and there will always be tweaking to ensure further balance. I've actually been in charge of a project i've done in school and it was successful that friends and peers loved it.

I've played various fighting games from time to time, some were stupid, some were fun. games such as Melty Blood, Bleach DS, Street Fighter, BlazBlue, King of Fighters. Every single game has it's different mechanics that make it fun regardless.

My contribution to the WBR would be to provide, and host test tournaments with Brawl+. Provide in depth analysis of various mechanics you would like me to take a look at. Provide forms of media (Pictures and Video) to illustrate the changes you are demonstrating. I am not a hacker myself, but I am a strong visualizer and a strong supporter of mods and hacks in order to deviate from the standard norm. I can play all characters to it's fullest potential and provide reasoning and essential changes to such characters.

-As an optional bonus, get a recommendation from a current WBR member and/or answer this question: Given the power to change anything in the game, how would you have gone about buffing Bowser or nerfing Metaknight?

I do not have any recommendations avilable, but I don't even know who would vouch for me lol. I would say Dark Sonic being a fellow Floridian and supporter of Brawl+, I don't think this is possible lol.

On nerfing Meta Knight:
Being an MK main myself, various aspects of the character should be adjusted in order to keep in quality on top, but not stupidly over powered to gimping someone at 10% one case would be u-air, it can be sapmmed over and over for simple combos to even a tornado vertical kill. such nerf would include an increased knock back in early % or increase cooldown on the attack.

Priorities of the character are severely insane and he can beat out most things, to nerf it, we should remove invincibility frames from his up-b off the ground, I mean up-b a grenade and not taking the damage is ridiculous.

His knockback on certain attacks such as up-b are ridiculous they make characters fly in stupid directions, one such change to consider is where he makes contact at the apex of his up-b where it sends people to the edge for the kill, we should change that type of knock back to a light vertical direction.

The tornado is a major problem seeing that it does 10% on full count and impossible to DI at times. To nerf this, we could reduce the damage it does or his vertical lift. or lower priority of the attack

D-smash is the greatest problem since it's the most spammiest move of the bunch. To nerf it, we could add more cooldown or lower frame speed of the attack, to even adjust knockback properties of the attack. or we can have the 2nd hit of d-smash be lethal and the 1st hit be non-lethal and less damaging.

-Thanks for taking time in reading this and I hope you guys will pick the best of the best out of this batch

Well, I've added the typical wishlist for changes on MK onto my post (lower kill ability on dsmash, SL, nerf tornado, nair, blah, blah, blah) that probably everyone else included as well.

I've also added a tidbit on my previous rank in my SSBB community.

That's it I suppose *shrug*

Tournament Experience: Unfortunately, I have no tournament experience. I lack a method of transportation and a license. In a few weeks I will start looking through some alternate methods (public transit etc.) If I were to attend a tournament, there is no doubt that I would place well. I extensively study Brawls competitive meta game to better my skills mentally. Most of my practice comes from wifi (AiB ladder,AiB tournaments etc.) and very few offline friends.

Interests and Contributions: My interest fluctuate rapidly, but I've never lost interest in 2D fighters. I've been playing Street Fighter since I was 5 years old. Some other fighting games I have played are...

-Guilty Gear
-Mortal Kombat 1-3
-King of Fighter
-Marvel vs Capcom 2 (More unbalanced than brawl)
-Capcom vs SNK 2

The reason why I want to join the WBR is because a large component of what is being done is balance. I have developed a great sense of balance and equality after playing and analyzing 2D fighters for years. I know it would be beneficial to myself and the smash community if I bestow my knowledge on the different methods of approaching balance that came from my 10 years of experience with 2D fighters. As a competent fighter and smasher, I know banning characters is ridiculous. Joining the WBR would allow me to play a bigger role in steering Brawl competitive scene in the right direction.

Forum Contributions: As a seasoned 2D fighter fan and tournament watcher, I know that match ups and strategies are essential competitive play. This is why I felt that the following is important enough to include.

-As an optional bonus, get a recommendation from a current WBR member and/or answer this question: Given the power to change anything in the game, how would you have gone about buffing Bowser or nerfing Metaknight?

Seeing as how Bowser is a big, slow and powerful character, I would put more emphasis on his ground game and defense. In my opinion, Bowsers grab game was done fairly well. Since most of his combos are out of grabs, it forces the player to play a tighter ground game. Defense and options were covered well because you can shield->Fortress (with tap jump on). The main problem is Bowser cant get out of combo's once he's in them. This is why I would give him super armor frames on some of his smash attacks. Logically speaking, approaching Bowser should be a bad idea ( look at that freakin shell  ) The super armor would give him the edge when it comes to CQC (close quarters combat) I would also make Bowsers Nair have decent knock back and less ending lag because when the opponent is at high percentage they will range themselves away form Bowser making it frustrating to score the well deserved KO. The Nair would become an option because of it's speed and it's reliability . Lastly, since Bowser doesn't have any ranged projectiles, I believe the fortress should have super armor frames during the middle of the attack (after gaining momentum) and less ending lag. At the end of Bowsers momentum, This would allow Bowser to respond and punish projectile campers (providing he is close enough) Overall, Bowser is a well rounded character that takes patience to play. It's just little tweaks that would allow him to be a viable tournament character.

Thanks for reading, and I hope the WBR continues to make amazing contributions to the smash community.

SSB64: Yoshi/Fox
SSBM: Fox, Falco, Captain Falcon
SSBB: Metaknight, Wario
SSBB+: Fox, Marth, Sheik

While these are my mains, I can play many other characters proficiently from Melee through Brawl+, I just don't use them in tournament(outside of select few matchups and low tiers) because my mains are better characters.

Tournament Experience:

Melee: NJ power rankings
2/27/07 - 7th
6/22/07 - 6th
9/27/07 - Inactive
3/08/08 - 3rd
Tristate power rankings: 2/13/09 - Honorable mention(too inactive)

My greatest accomplishments in Melee
- Beat M2K 2-1 in winners and 3-0 in losers finals of Smashtastrophe 2(4/26/2008) low tiers
- Beat Chu 2-1 in winners of Smashtastrophe 2
- Beat Vidjogamer 2-1 in winners of Smashtastrophe 2
- Beat M2K and Azen when I teamed with Cactuar 2-1 in Round Robin at first and only Higurashi biweekly (9/20/2008)

Brawl: NJ Brawl Power Rankings
7/19/08 - 2nd
10/24/08 - 2nd
1/18/09 - 2nd
4/30/09 - Unranked due to inactivity. At the two tournaments I went to, I split first at a small(22 people) NJ one with Inui and I got 3rd at CoT4.

My greatest accomplishments in Brawl
- Defeated Shadow, AndyG, Anther, Lain, Judge, LeeHarris, and Dojo at CoT4.
- Getting 2nd in Brawl teams at CoT4 teaming with Snakeee for the first time.

I'm not really sure if my other merits in Brawl would be considered among my great accomplishments since I didn't play it enough to know what's notable besides CoT4.

I have consistently placed top 5 in singles at every tournament I've been to since the beginning of 2008 with the exception of the latest Smashtastrophe.

Brawl+: Placed 3rd at Beyond the Limit

Interested in bettering the game development of Brawl+

I don't have 3 posts to link to. This is because I never thought Brawl was deep enough to participate deeply in discussion contributing to the game and Melee is pretty well known by now so there isn't much I can contribute to that at this point(and I don't really feel like searching through posts from years ago since most of my Melee discussion is in person or on AIM.) I have provided feedback and input to WBR members though.

Smash Bros Tournament Experience
I’ve been playing Smash since its release in 1999, but I never got too series about it in the early stages, so I didn’t attend any Smash 64 tournaments.
For the first couple of years of Melee, Utah, where I live, didn’t really have a competitive Melee community. Despite that, my skill developed quite well for just playing causally with friends (and every time I see someone that think they’re all that in Melee, I challenge them, only to find out that they’ve never even heard of the wavedash… :ohwell: ). The first tournament that I attended was at an anime convention, where I got first out of 80. I’ve attended almost every single local Melee tournament since I started playing in Fall of 2005 (since that was pretty much the start of Utah’s competitive scene), and quickly became Utah’s undisputed #1 ranked player, and held that status for 2 years. After which, I stopped practicing for a good amount of time, due to anticipation for Brawl, and I lost my spot. But after a couple of months with vBrawl, I didn’t like it so I stopped entering Brawl singles tournaments (I still showed up to the local tournaments every single time to hang out of my Smash buddies, as well as play doubles and friendlies, so it’s not like I know nothing about the game [I can probably be on Utah’s top-10 for Brawl if I actually enter singles]) and I got back into Melee, and is currently ranked first for Melee in Utah, again.
Here is the SmashWiki article listed all present and past Power Rankings for Utah: http://super-smash-bros.wikia.com/wiki/Utah_Power_Rankings
The only out-of-state tournament that I attended was OC3, where I was only one match win away from making out of round-robin pools.
Currently, I’m the main contributor to the growing interest of Brawl+ in my community. I’ve gotten a good amount interested in it. There hasn’t been a Brawl+ tournament around my area, but I’m working on making that happen soon.
As a side note, I also run Utah’s Power Rankings, and is very actively engaged in it, just like with everything that I set my mind to (so if I become a WBRoomer, I will also try my hardest to not disappoint. :D)

Interest and Contribution
Before Brawl was released, I had a vision of what I think it would be like (and I stopped trying in Melee due to thinking that that vision would become reality). But I shortly found out that Brawl was nothing like what I had imagined, a couple of months after release. To be frank, vBrawl just lacked much depth and was too defensive, rarely rewarding players for high-risk, offensive play-styles; it just played too slow. But after I played Brawl+ for the first time, I was instantly amazed. It was really close to what I had originally imagined Brawl to be like, and it is becoming closer and closer to that ideal as time passes. That is why I want to be there to see how it will continue to evolve, and help with its development in any way I can.
Frankly, I’m not a programmer, so I can’t come up with new codes or anything, but I’m able to understand how the codes work and to tweak them after being given an explanation with ease. (I’m a fast learner.) Ever since I’ve gotten into Brawl+, I’ve been doing a lot of play-testing, find out glitches with changes and whatnot. I’ve also been fiddling and tweaking certain things such as jump-height, gravity, etc. for characters to see how they play with them and such. I’ve also tested a bunch of stage size increases for Yoshi’s Island and Corneria in order to help kupo15 with some problems with them on his nightly build set in the past. I’ll continue to play-test to try to help with the fixing of glitches and the balancing of the game as much as I can, and continue to contribute in intellectual discussions when needed.

Past contributions
Well, I wasn’t active that much a few years back in the global community and I also have nearly no contributions in 2008 for Brawl due to not being very interested in it, so I don’t have much to link (and finding those old ones would be nearly impossible, anyway). Also, a lot of the recently contributions I made weren’t actually posted in the forum, itself, and was IMed/PMed instead (as a direct conversation via IM was much faster and a much better way to get certain stuff across), so I’m also limited in the things I can link, so I sure hope these count as being “sufficiently demonstrated your knowledge of Smash Bros. intricacies”:
This is just me explaining how a certain mechanic works to someone that was confused about it (thus demonstrating my “knowledge of Smash Bros. intricacies”?): Single Post
Just to note, (in the last sentence of the quote in this next one) I suggested that if Ike is made to not go into Fall Special only when he swing with Quick Draw, then his wind-down lag on the swing should decrease, or else he would fall too far to recover with up-b by the time he can up-b, making the Fall Special change quite pointless. This was then countered by shanus, essentially saying that this was not a problem. But looking at the recent wind-down speed-up to Ike’s side-b in the latest 4.2 beta, it turns out that my argument was a pretty legitimate one: Single Post
This is just me giving my opinion on the Ness up-b buff debate as well as a response about the auto-sweetspot of side-b attacks: Single Post
This is just a little discussion that I started, when I brought up a glitch that also existed in vBrawl: 11-Post Discussion

Recommendation
kupo15 is willing to recommend me.

Balancing Questions
MetaKnight
The unchangeable characteristics that makes Meta Knight who he is in the Kirby franchise naturally makes him a good character. He is small in size (making him a small target), fast, has multiple jumps (reducing the amount of jumps would just change who he is, so that shouldn’t be an option), uses a sword (disjointed hitboxes are very useful in most cases, if you can’t already tell XD), attacks comes out fast and rapid, and has little lag (of all types in general). Now, many of the things on that list cannot be changed and still keep his character accurate. Lag can be increased on some of the more broken attacks (i.e. Mach Tornado, which has already been nerfed this way among many others), but if you change too many of his attacks by adding too much lag on them, then he won’t feel like how the character that is Meta Knight should feel. Also, Meta Knight attacking fast and rapidly isn’t something that should be changed, in my opinion, so the main thing you can do is make his attacks do less damage and lower the knockback (both base and growth) of his KO moves. This would make him still combo effectively, but have to work for his KO’s. Now, with this, if one tries to kill the conventional way (e.g. with smashes, etc.), Meta Knight won’t be killing until close to 200%; but with his 5 aerial jumps and awesome aerials with high priority, he is perfectly suitable to Wall of Pain his opponents, taking them off the stage and follow them with continuous attacks until they are too far from the stage to survive (or even directly hitting them across the blastline) then going back with his amazing recovery, for early kills/gimps.
Bowser
Now, throughout the history of Smash Brothers, faster characters have always been the ones to dominate, while the slow ones are stuck being combo’ed and having faster characters run circles around them. Now, I actually feel that Sakurai’s idea of reducing the majority of the stage’s size in order to help the heavy-weights to be a pretty smart move (needless to say, a lot of Sakurai’s other ideas weren’t that great for competitive play). Super armor was also something that helped, but wasn’t implemented that well. One change that I would add to Bowser (along with some other slower characters), is to add super armor to some of his KO moves, allowing him to better get off those killing blows, and preferably earlier than most of the faster characters in most cases, as that is what they were meant to do. Increasing some of the hit-box sizes, like with the recent changes in the 4.2 beta version, is also a pretty good way to help with this matter. There’s always the increasing of damage and knockback route, but there’s a limit to how much you can do with that as well, so these other methods further add to the ability to buff without overpowering. But perhaps increasing the damage of some non-KO attacks to speed up the killing process deserves some trials-and-error testing?

Well, thanks for reading! :) Now I just wait for the verdict...*crosses fingers*

Why dont we vote who we wnt in?
@Silven: well.....this kinda has to happen to get new people in the backroom. While some candidates MAY not be the best choice, I sugeest that we at least let the players vote in the candidates.
Also I dont think it would be a good idea to allow people who want buffs and nerfs for everything every five posts. Just because "insert person here" played every smash game in history forever, doesnt mean they are qualified. They can still be terrible players and have a bad sense of balance (not insulting anyone in general at all).

turn around....
In your application please include:
  • Your forum name
  • The character(s) you play: Any and all Smash games.
  • Smash Bros. tournament experience: While this is not just Brawl or Brawl+, but all Smash games, Brawl+ is certainly preferred. Tournament experience is not a mandatory requirement, but it definitely helps since our project is currently geared towards the creation of a more competitive gameplay environment.
  • Interest and Contributions: Why you want to be a part of the WBR, and what you plan to do to help us out. This is the big one. Activity and commitment to the project are required when joining the WBR. Members new and old alike need to be active in discussions and contribute to the project and community. Now, with this project steadily getting closer to our "Gold Release," the scope of the room could change slightly. We might start looking at more people involved in the greater community as an outreach to more players, or top players to start helping us chart the metagame. Whatever the facet of skill or knowledge we're looking for, however, the core requirement of admittance to this room will always remain Contribution.
  • Lastly, please provide at least three links to discussions you played a significant part in, or where you otherwise sufficiently demonstrated your knowledge of Smash Bros. intricacies.
  • As an optional bonus, get a recommendation from a current WBR member and/or answer this question: Given the power to change anything in the game, how would you have gone about buffing Bowser or nerfing Metaknight?

One last thing. All admissions are to be made in this topic only. Please don't send PMs to me, Almas, or any other WBR members asking to be let in. You'll just be ignored. That's it, now who wants in?
1. knuxrouge
2. SSB 64--Link, Falcon
SSBM--Roy, Ganon, Pichu, Young Link, Doctor Mario and Falco (all the clones)
SSBB--everyone, seriously.
SSBB+--Fox, Falcon, Ike
3. I'm afraid I have no current tournament experience, but I play competitively on a common basis with friends who always learn new things and techniques and experiment them, etc.
4. I love engaging in intelligent conversations about Smash in general and I'm 100% for Brawl+ development, even though I still play Brawl and Melee. My specialty is observation and speculation. I can deduce a lot of factors in a game merely by watching, all the same I know of the feeling to be in the middle of combat, psychologically speaking, I know how common mistakes, or lapses in judgment can occur in a match. I want to add to an intelligent voice of reason in the WBR and even engage in a discussion concering tiers as with more and more tournaments allowing Brawl+, a tier list can be constructed in due time. While I have little programming knowledge, I can at any point get into discussions concernin character balance compared with the rest of the cast, how what is done how and etc. I want to offer another credible voice of reason, plus if necessary, some Brawl+ exclusive texture hacks.

Nightly Builds in tournaments

6. goodoldganon seems to like me, but no official reccomendation.
Buffing Bowser: I can't think of much that wasn't already done, it's quite simple, make him stronger and give him more vertical knockback resistand and slightly more horizontal knockback resistance.
Nerfing Meta Knight: Reduce the damage of his aerials, change the knockback of shuttle loop to a vertical one. Nerf the damage of down smash, not so much make it slower. Increase the ending lag of Mach Tornado or make the hitbox more narrow. Give him either less horizontal or less vertical knockback resistance, just one, not both.

Brawl+: Pikachu

Smash Bros. tournament experience:

I have been playing Smash competitively since Melee, but my tournament experience only picked up after the release of Brawl. In the tournaments I’ve been to, I have made a name for myself as a solid Pikachu. I haven’t placed particularly high, but my Pikachu has gained much respect in my real life scene and online.

When there aren’t tournaments, I spend my days at local smash fests. I almost never play Brawl or Melee anymore, so this leaves me no choice but to spread the joy of Brawl+ to many people in the Toronto scene (a big scene I may add). This Saturday, I will be going to a tournament to spread Brawl+ to many people, and this includes Ally and Holy, and even the Melee scene (Raynex). Edit: This tournament has passed, and I have many matches showing my overall skill. I won over 90% of my matches. There was no Brawl+ tournament held, but I had many friendlies. Here are the links:

5ive (Pikachu) vs. NikoK (Peach)

5ive (Pikachu) vs. NikoK (Marth)

5ive (Pikachu) vs. Gichan (Ivysaur)

5ive (Pikachu) vs. Gichan (Ice Climbers)

5ive (Pikachu) vs. Holy (ROB) 1

5ive (Pikachu) vs. Holy (ROB) 2

I also have found a venue, and will be providing Gichan with the venue for monthlies. Our first tournament starts on July 12: http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=234623

There hasn’t been a Brawl+ tournament in my area yet. I highlight yet, because me and Gichan plan to use my venue as a place for Brawl+ monthly tournaments. That is HUGE thing for the spread of Brawl+ in not only Toronto, but Ontario or even Canada as a whole. Like they say, Toronto IS the center of Canada.

As you see I am a big part to the scene in Toronto. Even if I am not inducted into the WBR, I will continue to spread Brawl+ around our huge scene.

Interest and Contributions:

I am generally interested in Video Games as a whole. Though this is common for much of the applicants, I think I have made a significant contribution to the Smash scene, and also my local scene. My main interest is seeing Smash evolve into the game we see now. I can only remember the days when we deemed Pit top tier, and am proud to see the meta game evolve from that. I am also proud to see my main, Pikachu evolve through heated discussion and hard work, mainly in the form of videos. In the span of a year, I have uploaded many videos, many of which are positively affecting Pikachu’s reputation as a character. My most significant project was a video that took over 4 months to make. It was to help the Pikachu boards as well as my fellow Pikachu players in their strive to become good. It was a Pikachu video guide. I made sure to make it perfect. I made everything very easy to understand, and concentrated on the editing as well. It was a big success with the boards, and my peers. If you want to judge me on my hard work and loyalty to Pikachu alone, I advise you to check the video out. I am quite confident that you will be impressed.
Link: http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=204344

On another note: Many may not know this, but I was actively involved with the Brawl+ project well before it got much of its attention. I had an original topic regarding what our idea was, which even resulted in me and Kupo having a very heated debate on what we wanted the outcome to be. Sadly, the topic was deleted, but hopefully Kupo remembers me, and our debates. I was also one of the original 10 members of the Brawl+ brigade. I have no way to confirm that, but I guess you’ll have to trust me on this one. I don't know if this matters, but I report a lot of spam. Especially when it is one that degrades Brawl+. Almas should know about this.

Again, I might add my main interest now has sprung away from Brawl, and is mainly concentrating on the Brawl+ movement. I am an excellent ambassador of Brawl+ here in Toronto, not only to spread the game, but representing our online community positively.. I was a supporter from the beginning, and will be a supporter until the end. Through my contribution on the boards, and spreading Brawl+ locally, I think I will be a good addition to the backroom. Not to mention I am the most active Pikachu main currently on Brawl+, and will be a key part for developing Pikachu+’s metagame.

I want to be in the WBR, because the Brawl+ movement needs a link here in Canada. I can provide feedback, and constant access to Ally and Holy, and many other people here. With me, Brawl+ will be more than a USA thing, but closer to a global standard. On the boards, I can be of much help due to my Youtube account, and overall reputation with the players in my area, and online. Along with that, I have many, many opinions I have yet to be stated and can help develop the metagame with Pikachu, and ultimately with all the characters. My overall knowledge of smash, link to players here in Canada, and skill in Brawl+, I think I am deserving and am a perfect fit for the WBR.

Kupo, Neko, or even Leafgreen may give me one.

Buffing Bowser:

Many see Bowser as a slow character, that lives long and packs a punch with one hit. In Brawl+, I see this staying, obviously with many buffs. I would of took a similar approach to what the coders did now. Many of my opinions of which are already done. This ranges from the tough armor, the useful uptilt, and various lag decreases.

The only thing I see changing is the balancing of his recovery. This would involve cutting down his horizontal movement, in terms of buffing a bit of his vertical recovery.

Nerfing Metaknight

I would reduce knockback on Up B, and all of his smashes to make him a gimp character, not a kill and gimp character. I would also slightly increase knock back on some of his combo moves such as fair and up air, just so some of his combos are escapable with proper DI. I would include free fall after a glide, and decrease his jumps, even by one to slightly decrease his aerial mobility.

Thank you for your time.

a lot of applications coming in here...

anyway, we are also in need of PAL players and coders.

I know it is somewhat hard to find any coders, but if you can program stuff (basic assembly knowledge might come in handy) you might actually get in!

Haha don't worry. At worst, you don't get in right now and just keep posting well, going to tournaments, and getting better, then try again later. It's probably not a "now or never" type thing.

It's not like a LIST list, it's like "oh hey we might want him in the WBR". And I feel your pain, MK26, I can't get to tournaments either.

Kidding, but a true Brawl+ advocate and backroomer would totally spread it there. "NANDE, BUHRAWHLPRUSSERU!?"

^ I laughed so hard I started to choke. Thanks a lot. I hope you're happy.

And yeah, I'm going to try to spread it there. Internet sites, friends, random conventions, whatever I can. If you see a sudden boom in Japanese B+ interest it's probably me.

I currently have 27 applications in this topic, for an as yet undetermined number of spots. I'm setting a deadline of 11:59PM EDT on Thursday, June 11. You have until then to post your application in this topic. After that, it will be locked and no more applications will be taken for this session.

After applications are taken, the WBR as a whole will determine those applicants it wants to take in. We may also, at our discretion, be contacting potential recruits for followups. Since this is the first time we've had open applications, our admissions process is still being finalized, so if you don't hear back from us in a couple weeks don't fret.

Once our new members have been selected, I will make an announcement for all those admitted. DO NOT spam/flame/troll that post/topic. I'll have something special cooked up for people breaking these basic rules of this forum.

Anyway, that's all from me. You officially have approximately 4 days left to submit your application.

Ever since I first became aware of Brawl+ I have followed it EXTREMELY closely. I read every post in topics I feel are important and constantly attempt to better my knowledge of the game. I have a problem though. You see, I live in Eagle River, Alaska, which is north of Anchorage, the largest city in Alaska (with a whopping 300,000 people! /sarcasm). Every week I drive south for an hour to reach my friends in Anchorage in order to play smash. Because of my location my actual tournament experience is limited, but my location also allows me more time in which to read these forums, and study the game of smash itself. I am a theory man, I know how I COULD be great at the game in theory, but I fall short of that potential due to lack of Player Vs. Player experience, although I still consider myself good at smash despite that flaw.

In order to contribute to the WBR I can do many things, such as find out community opinion, test things that require time and patience, give my advice on how I believe the game should be balanced, and help promote the game itself. I am currently singlehandedly bringing Brawl+ to Alaska. I plan to visit any Brawl Tourneys that arise in Anchorage and set up my own Brawl+ booth, in order to bring in more players.

As I said earlier, I can test things. Being in Alaska, and it being summer break, I have a lot of extra time in which to test proposed changes and find out if something is an actual combo. I can sit in my room and test the same move on different characters if need be, in order to see if it is overpowered, and then give my advice on how it should be changed.

During all of my years of playing video games, I have played games with horrible balance and games with amazing balance. I have seen games fade, and seen games continue to live for years after their release. I personally think that I am capable of helping make important decisions when it comes to game balance, and make the right choice. I understand that the game cannot be perfectly balanced, but every character should be viable (I also understand that this is exactly what you guys are going for)

On these forums I am not the most influential member, and I am not the loudest either. Most of the time I express my opinion in short posts or not at all. I lurk these forums, and read many many pages of posts every day. I learn from others, learn from their mistakes, and learn from their successes. Recently I have decided that if I ever want to change anything I need to begin posting more often, so that is what I have begun to do. I post more, and share my opinion more. I want to actually be able to help this game thrive, and to help it become more than just an interesting mod in the eyes of the vBrawl community.

I am very liberal in my view of changing things. If something is able to be changed to better the game, then I will support that change. Brawl+ is not brawl, so why should we limit it to what was in Brawl? As always, we will change more and more of the game and that will become more and more clear. If you look back at the podcast "Hacking Brawl" from Show Me Your News, you will hear them say how "we really don't want to change much of the game", and "I'm glad that there is a line limit of 256 so that the game doesn't change too much". Obviously, that opinion changed. I believe that that opinion was only there in the first place because some people, no matter how intelligent they are, are simply very resistant to change in something. I must say that I am not one of those people

Now about the links, as I have stated earlier, I lurk these forums most of the time, but I believe I can find 3 good places where I show how I could contribute to the WBR and where I have argued for or against something and showed my knowledge of Brawl+ Intricacy's.
http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=235956 This thread, where I gathered community data for the WBR
http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=230393 This thread, where I showed some of my knowledge of my Main, as well as started matchup discussion.
http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?p=7534240#post7534240 This thread where I stated who I and the community as a whole thought were the best characters and where I then defended their need for buffs (except for Yoshi, who I learned from another knowledgeable player is not as bad as I had previously believed)

And now for the bonus.......

In nerfing Metaknight, you must be careful, as he has such a good moveset that it is hard to make him bad enough to not be overpowered and at the same time keep him from being horrible. One thing I would do is nerf his kill moves so that he would rely on gimping in order to kill before very high percents. Since Metaknight is debatebly the best edgeguarder in Brawl+, I feel that low kill power would be justified by that. I would also apply a blanket damage decrease, assuming he is still too good after the previous nerf.

In order to buff Bowser, I would first apply a blanket damage increase, and then I would increase ALR on him to aid him at keeping the enemy away. I feel Bowser should be a character that lives to high percents and punishes the enemy for wrong moves, while at the same time making them keep their distance so that they cannot combo him.

If someone would like to give me a recommendation, please PM me so I can add that recommendation to this post

Thank You!

Smash Bros. tournament experience:
First Flight of the Ostrich, 5/30

In Brawl, I have attended most major tournaments in the Triangle area in NC since 2008.

Interest and Contributions:
I cannot claim a great deal of success in the tournament realm, but I have developed a reputation, both on the forums, and particularly in the North Carolina scene for being a deep and nuanced thinker on the intricacies of smash brothers.

I also have a reputation, particularly on the Zero Suit Samus sub-forum, for being a diligent and perspicacious researcher, having researched empirical knockback for all of ZSS's moves, and (more for my own edification, as they have mostly been researched already) the frame data for each as well.

These are the two things I hope to bring to the table in the WBR: my research experience, and my thought process, both of which I consider to be valuable assets in the WBR.

I researched the knockback data in this thread. My research also led to discovering many properties of dair and fsmash that had never been observed before.

My thought process regarding balance is showcased here, as well as my methodical approach to thinking about the effects certain rules would have on gameplay in the latter half of the post.

Throughout this thread I show my thoughts on how a match-up rating works, and further reveal my thought process on the balance of the game.
