Have you seen what the Brawl hype was like while Brawl was in development? If you've been through what I've been through, you'd definitely think about being conservative with your roster.Haha... no safety nets. Honestly, the only reason people are being so damn conservative with their rosters is because they are afraid of being disappointed with whatever SSB4 might throw at them.
Rosters and arguing. You didn't miss anything.Did i miss anything.
People were asking for Samus without her suit for a while. Pokemon Trainer was also asked for and also laughed at. Snake is the only character that absolutely no one asked for or thought would be in. Of course, there is a good reason for that.I guarantee you that there will be surprises in SSB4. Honestly, did anyone correctly predict Zero Suit Samus, Pokemon Trainer with Squirtle/Ivysaur/Charizard, R.O.B., or Snake in SSB3/Brawl? Did anyone incorrectly predict there would be no cuts in SSB3/Brawl?
Probably a better reason to post it. People will go though it and say which characters should stay or go.*siiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh*
All this roster talk has me wanting to post my own roster image. I'll have to do a tiny bit of work on it, though. I'm in the process of taking it down from 60 to 55, and if I ever develop the resolve, 50. I just think it's not unreasonable to expect between 50 and 60, contrary to what the popular notion is. I am whittling it down for the sake of making it even more "realistic," though.
Yes, we did... and some of us dismiss some of those characters. I suggest Duck Hunt Dog, Tingle, and Meowth. People tell me they won't be in. KumaOso suggests Kumatora and Tom Nook. Most people doubt they would get in. Smashchu suggests Sheriff and Karate Joe (from Rhythm Heaven). No one cares. Diddy Kong says Impa could replace Sheik. Most people tells him it won't happen. It is the dismissed characters that will surprise us when they actually gets in the game after we determined that they won't be in the game. How can he Surprise us when we've considered every character under theGoldenSun?
I want to just go on the record and say that when I was arguing with you about Meowth, it was much less that he wouldn't get in, and more of why I didn't want him in. There's a fine line to tread when a person argues a character, and that line is often blurred.Yes, we did... and some of us dismiss some of those characters. I suggest Duck Hunt Dog, Tingle, and Meowth. People tell me they won't be in. KumaOso suggests Kumatora and Tom Nook. Most people doubt they would get in. Don't forget my Shy Guy campaign, if you can call it that...Yes, we did... and some of us dismiss some of those characters. Of all the character suggestions that I've seen, only one suggestion has been my most hated. On the flipside, I suggest someone that I like, and everyone seems to turn him/her down.Yes, we did... and some of us dismiss some of those characters. I suggest Duck Hunt Dog, Tingle, and Meowth. Eh, there's plenty else to talk about, and like the G-Faqs board there could still be arguments about some characters. If it was decided on, you think this thread would be active?
Yeah most of us guessed all but 2 to 4 characters right. The only ones most of us didn't see coming was Snake (the only 3rd party characters people were looking forward to possibly being playable was Sonic and Mega man), the Pokémon Trainer (who saw it coming with those 3 Pokémon=???), and ROB (because he was confirmed as a SSE common enemy).Have you seen what the Brawl hype was like while Brawl was in development? If you've been through what I've been through, you'd definitely think about being conservative with your roster.
They are similar in terms of weight and size.I don't understand how Star can't see Chrome's similarities to Ike. Heck, in one of the trailers, Chrome clearly does Quick Draw on an enemy unit (whom looks like Masked Marth).
This may offend some, or come across as high heresy in the Super Smash Bros community, but Ridley is not a lock for the next game. Do I believe he is going to be considered? Yes. Despite this though Ridley has very real issues that need to be worked on. Namely his physical structure. Sakurai's view of Ridley is displayed pretty clearly in Ridley's appearance and role in Subspace Emissary. In the Nintendo Power [which you all can read for yourself following this link] interview when Sakurai was addressed with the question about Ridley not being playable he seemed almost surprised by it. Which naturally he would be seeing as how he is implemented in Subspace Emissary. Is this to say Sakurai cannot find a way to make this work? Certainly not, but if Sakurai holds to this image of Ridley being the same character as presented in Super Smash Bros. Brawl than I am thinking it probably will not be likely. Just because something may make sense to fans does not mean the developers will view it that way. On the same token they, being the developers, may know about some issues that fans could not or would not know about. Personally I cannot see how Ridley would be any worse than Charizard or Bowser with a large set of wings, but again this is from the perspective of a fan and not a developer.Ridley:
No brainer for why he was included. He is Samus's arch-nemesis, has been in the Metroid series since the beginning, and has been in almost every game in the series to date. He is also one of the most requested newcomers for Smash 4 by the Western fanbase.
My number one pick for likeliest newcomer for the next game. He makes a lot of sense. For starters he is a widely enough supported character from both the Western and Japanese fan bases. Placed highly in previously Smash polls with more competition than he will have now. Not only that but Donkey Kong Country Returns has breathed life into the Donkey Kong series once again. While some look to King K. Rool and the Kremlings exclusion as a mark against him and his fighter potential in Super Smash Bros, again, I don't buy it, for a couple of reasons:K. Rool:
Another obvious pick. K. Rool has been the main antagonist of most of the Donkey Kong platformer games since Donkey Kong Country. From his three incarnations from the DKC trilogy (as well as his role in DK64), there is a lot for him to draw from in regards to a moveset. He is also incredibly popular and highly requested for Smash Bros. worldwide.
I don't agree with Isaac. Or to be specific, I don't give a crap about him.Eh, there's plenty else to talk about, and like the G-Faqs board there could still be arguments about some characters.
Really the only thing that EVERYONE can agree on is Isaac. 2nd in line would be Little Mac. KRool is extremely high up there, and Megaman for the 3rd party most-wanted.
98% of us want no cuts.Hey, I post at G-Faqs usually, and I was wondering what most people are saying about the roster. This is the roster that we haven't really agreed upon, but everyone's comments sort of point that the majority would agree with this:
Whole Brawl roster minus Lucario
We can't decide on a 5th (or 6th) Mario rep, 5th Zelda rep, or retro rep.
Bowser Jr, Paper Mario, Toad, and Waluigi dominate the roster arguments.
Impa, Ghirahim, Toon Zelda/Tetra, Vaati are all up for debate. Really undecided here. I don't think anyone really knows who the 5th Zelda rep should be.
Balloon Fighter, Takamaru, Lip, Sukapon, and whole bunch of people suggested for a retro rep. For some reason, people like Lip there. Do they here? I just don't see why you'd want her.
Ridley
Saki
Mewtwo
Zoroark/Victini (I think it's leaning towards Zoroark)
Krom/Roy (pretty undecided, and some people think Ike will get cut [a minority there] or it'll stay with it's current 2 reps.
Medusa/Palutena (it's 50/50 here)
Isaac
Shulk
Megaman
And I think we're pretty undecided (haven't talked about) Louie or Andy.
So I curious, what *seems* to be the general conclusion here? Anyone care to say what the majority this board think the roster should be? Or is it undecided/not really talked about?
I loooove Rosalina. I do not, however, hate Ghirahim.Of all the character suggestions that I've seen, only one suggestion has been my most hated. On the flipside, I suggest someone that I like, and everyone seems to turn him/her down.
For instnace, I like Rosalina, but I despise Ghirahim. The former doesn't get talked about much, while the latter gets too much attention. In a way, this is partly due to the fact that the Super Mario franchise has an easier time getting new characters than the Legend of Zelda series.
The reason no one wants most of these characters is because there are much more potentially unique characters that are more likeable.Yes, we did... and some of us dismiss some of those characters. Fixed. 10charsTingle's last appearance was Color Changing Tingle's Love Balloon Trip.
I actually think Sakurai will pass.Prince Fluff anyone?
We've brought her up dozens of times, although it tends to be short conversations. None of us really seem to dislike her. Personally I wouldn't mind her, but I have a "gut" feeling that she won't make it. I think that Takamaru may be the only Japan-only character heavily considered for these forthcoming games. What's not to like about Lip? it's like representing all of the puzzle games from nintendo in a singular character!
Judging by this, it looks like the boards are near the same. Idk why I put Krom, lol. I've literally never spelled it like that. The Toad fanbase is more vocal, but in a poll I think Paper Mario and Bowser Jr. were basically tied. I personally don't like Toad, but I'm not going to go into that. And Shulk gets a ton of hate, but most people seem to think he'll get in. The hatred is more vocal, but most people figure why not have him in?98% of us want no cuts.
I think Toad might have the most support here as a Mario rep, Jr. second, Paper third.
All LoZ characters seem hated. But from least to most hated it's probably Ghirahim> Tingle> Impa (replacing Sheik). The others aren't mentioned.
Retro is up in the air, but I mostly see Lip/Taka/ DHD
Saki - check
Mewtwo - check
Zoroark/Victini (I think it's leaning towards Zoroark) - seems right, though Victini has love here too
Krom/Roy (pretty undecided, and some people think Ike will get cut [a minority there] or it'll stay with it's current 2 reps. - Seems to be more of Chrome vs Roy
Medusa/Palutena (it's 50/50 here) pretty much expecting one.
Isaac - check
Shulk - more hate then love, but on a personal note I think he'll be in.
Megaman - check
Yeah I pretty much see the same thing with Rosalina myself. As much as I want her to be a playable character, I need to also take into account her importance. At least she made two mainstream appearances, unlike Waluigi, who has none. Still, she's at a disadvantage when you bring Bowser Jr. and Toad into the picture.I loooove Rosalina. I do not, however, hate Ghirahim.
I don't see Rosalina as terribly likely (just my thoughts), but if she appears, I'll gladly accept her. She gave Super Mario Galaxy I the atmosphere that made me like it more than 2. Plus she's beautiful, so there's that.
There's Impa's problem. If someone made two movesets, one for Shy Guy, one for Impa to replace Sheik, I guarantee you Shy Guy's would be more unique. And when you lose out to a common enemy, you have a problem. The reason no one wants most of these characters is because there are much more potentially unique characters that are more likeable.
The Duck Hunt Dog is a dumb joke idea that was caused by that dumb Melee trophy that won't go away. This idea is stupid. It's like the Arrow to the Knee of Smash characters.
Tingle's last appearance was Brawl. His last Zelda appearance was Minish Cap in 2004 (the dumb Tingle doll in Skyward Sword aside). Plus dang near everyone who knows about him hates him and his ugly face. Seriously, he looks like a pedophile.
Kumatora is one of about 10 supporting playable characters in the MOTHER series.
Tom Nook... well... Sakurai doesn't see him as a "fighter." Plus many people want Miis/Animal Crossers over him.
Sheriff... eh. It could happen, but it could require creativity.
I have no idea who Karate Joe is, but I wouldn't be totally shocked if someone from Rhythm Heaven was playable.
Nobody wants Impa to replace Sheik but maybe a half dozen people. Literally this idea is stupid. Why would you replace a character just to add one that looks the same, acts the same, and has nearly the same moves=???
The Duck Hunt Dog, Kumatora, and Impa replacing Sheik have no chance of happening/being playable. Sheriff is a total "WTF?" shot in the dark. I'm not sure about Karate Joe, and Tom Nook's chances are anyone's guess, assuming Sakurai doesn't dismiss him like he did in Brawl again.
This. You should've seen the moveset I had for her. What's not to like about Lip? it's like representing all of the puzzle games from nintendo in a singular character!
I gotta say, that list is damn sexy. What makes it appeal to me is the Nook and Layton.This. You should've seen the moveset I had for her.
@Star
Link has the Roc's Feather in some games for jumping, namely Link's Awakening.

What's wrong with what I said? By Shortie's poll I pretty much hit the nail on the head. Speaking majority of course@fart... Just so you know...
Yani is not our spokesman.
It's all good. It's an interesting read.So apparently I need to clarify myself, because I do not want my intentions misunderstood. I am not attacking Chrono's roster, instead I am using the characters he listed to fill my "character analysis wall of text" quota for the year. It is not meant to be hostile, but rather a way to spark discussion and provide my own insight.
Again, discussion is the key word.
@ Arcadenik
People want a roster they would be willing to pay to play with. If the roster was exactly like you suggested, many smash bros fans would simply stick with the previous games, and not bother with future new smash bros games.
Also Arc, all of the characters that were "WTF?" were important to their franchises. The Pokémon Trainer is the playable character in G/R/B/Y/FR/LG, ROB is the main character of 2 games, and Snake is the main character of the Metal Gear series.
