Yeah we tend to bring up Mario a lot. Toad gets the most support (from us oldies), Bowser Jr. gets good support (mostly from the youngings), and Paper Mario gets supports from us random potatoes.

In terms of support, yani is right. He is also right every Zelda character that isn't playable in smash is generally opposed.

In terms of retro characters, Little Mac Dominates. Takamaru gets a good amount of love too, while Lips gets some attention. We also tend to throw Balloon Fighter and Mach Rider into the conversation and mix too. Occasionally Sheriff gets throw in, too.

Saki: We discuss this a lot. We all generally agree he will be considered, but we tend to be mixed on whether he should be in, whether he is worthy, whether we want him, and whether he will be in.
Mewtwo: He is wanted by just about all of us, and is talked about a lot. Sadly, that includes his spoon sometimes!
Victini/Zoroark: Zoroark seems the most likely to most (I disagree), but their fanbases here are equal. Zoroark has a bigger fanbase, especially in Japan (although they don't like us). Opinions on both of them are mixed.
Krom/Roy (pretty undecided, and some people think Ike will get cut [a minority there] or it'll stay with it's current 2 reps.: Most of us think Ike will return, possibly with his Radiant Dawn look. Krom and Roy tend to be pitted against each other.
Medusa/Palutena: Paletuna gets the solid edge here in terms of who we think is more likely. However, popularity is fairly even, although I think Paletuna gets only a slight edge.
Isaac: We bring him up a lot. Most of us like him, but opinions on his chances are varied.
Shulk: He gets some hate, but a lot more of "I don't know him that well" and a lot more love than hate. Most of us don't think he will be playable, but a good amount of people do.
Mega Man: Most of us see him as very likely, and most of us like him as a character (as well as a game). However, there is a noticeable amount of fans that oppose 3rd party characters in general, or that don't want him playable.

Oh and by the way, Yani may not be our spokesmen, but I am... :bee: :chuckle: It is cool though Yani!

@ Star
Shut up with the apologies. We all understand you aren't attacking Chrono!

Let's see...

Tingle - important role in the Zelda games (sometimes), main character in his own spin-off series... I think fans would enjoy knocking Tingle around

Meowth - important role in the evil forces of Ganon, meaning it's got lots of exposure for over 10+ years in TV, familiarizing the general audience with this Pokemon... I think fans would be willing to shell out a few bucks for a Pikachu vs. Meowth match

Ducks & Hunting Dog - the Faces of Evil, iconic characters of Corodine, synonymous with the NES Squadala and the NES itself because Duck Hunt was bundled with Super Mario Bros./NES... I think many older fans would love to pay to be able to shoot the dog once and for all(and then he will DIE)

King Hippo - he is practically the Ridley of Punch-Out... he's a very popular NES icon because he's had lots of exposure during the NES years and recently during the Wii years... he's had an important role in that Captain N cartoon in the late 80's... Nintendo used King Hippo to promote Punch-Out Wii with a replica of his crown and boxers... Nintendo even made Little Mac and King Hippo figurines to promote the Wii game.

Now, really... you think people won't buy Smash 4 because 4 out of 18 are considered too "WTF-y"? Are you Smashchu's sock puppet?
Fixed. :troll:

About K.Rool, I just thought I'd say that it'd be cool that if/when he got in, the first event would be: "Now there are THREE greedy kings?"

You heard here first.

lol, well as we all know... SmashBoards is vastly different than the peons over at GameFAQs.
if spartan goes back to his home with data, it will change what the other peons think of their rivals. as we have come to see, he walked back to his hut with data describing the two comunities as basically the same.

the thing is... things are more complicated than the shell of the general consensus.
Good thing they don't have the poll :troll::laugh:

King K. Rool and King Hippo... two heavyweight kings.... two newcomers... :awesome:

Yes! Faces of Evil! It would be so cool if that dog chasing after ducks in the background that Mario, Link, Kirby, Pikachu, etc. notice but don't think too much about it... and it is later revealed to be the Chekhov's Gunman... when he suddenly shoots at the heroes and turns them into trophies. Why? Oh, I dunno... maybe he is working for Tabuu... maybe he is Tabuu's pet dog... or maybe he's really working for Master Hand who needs heroes together to face off against Tabuu... :awesome:

Yeah, but the problem is his only role in Zelda was writing maps, wasting your times by deciphering maps in a boring filler mission, and stealing your stuff. His spin-off games didn't sell very well, and he has been dead in Zelda. Besides, Vatti is a much more important, interesting, and more liked character.

Knocking around a character isn't much of a reason, and if it is, make him the sandbag (literally).
Meowth - important role in the Pokemon anime, meaning it's got lots of exposure for over 10+ years in TV, familiarizing the general audience with this Pokemon... I think fans would be willing to shell out a few bucks for a Pikachu vs. Meowth match
Meowth doesn't add much in terms of moveset that "woaws" me or really anyone. It seems stale. He's fairly popular (outside of video games), but he isn't overwhelmingly popular.
Ducks & Hunting Dog - the faces of Duck Hunt, iconic characters of the NES era, synonymous with the NES Zapper and the NES itself because Duck Hunt was bundled with Super Mario Bros./NES... I think many older fans would love to pay to be able to shoot the dog once and for all
He would be totally stupid. Again, we have yet to get a character from a minor retro game/series that isn't the main character of said game/series. Nobody wants him. That is just a decade plus old joke that hasn't died because people think the person who made that joke was serious. Why not just add Error from Zelda II=???
King Hippo - he is practically the Ridley of Punch-Out... he's a very popular NES icon because he's had lots of exposure during the NES years and recently during the Wii years... he's had an important role in that Captain N cartoon in the late 80's... Nintendo used King Hippo to promote Punch-Out Wii with a replica of his crown and boxers... Nintendo even made Little Mac and King Hippo figurines to promote the Wii game.
No, he's not Ridley. He is not a constant plot focus. He didn't kill Little Mac's parents or is his arch rival. Besides, there are several reoccurring Punch-Out boxers. Why the heck are you predicting King Hippo when we don't even have Little Mac playable in smash yet=???
Now, really... you think people won't buy Smash 4 because 4 out of 18 are considered too "WTF-y"? Are you Smashchu's sock puppet?
Quite frankly, Tingle, the Duck Hunt Dog, and King Hippo turn me off. If they got in over the likes of say a Ridley or K. Rool, I would be raging mad, and would consider skipping the game. The characters are a representation of the quality of the game, and those characters would show me that the game wasn't mad with much thought. Quite frankly, dang near everyone agrees me.

Again, I am going to say this. My comments are half response and half general statements.

Dixie Kong:
Obvious pick again. Dixie Kong is Nintendo's most iconic female character outside of Samus, Peach, and Zelda. Dixie Kong was one of the main protagonists for two games for the DKC trilogy, and was a playable character in most of the Donkey Kong games after Nintendo 64. She is incredibly popular as well, and is perhaps the most important female character not yet playable in Smash Bros. Her large ponytail gives her the potential to be a character that has a disjointed hitbox that is not a sword, hammer, or Snake's limbs. She is highly requested by Smash Bros. fans worldwide. DK is Nintendo's biggest series next to Mario, Zelda, and Pokemon, so four playable characters is perfectly sound.
I agree with much of this. The only issue people are going to raise is "b-b-but does Donkey Kong need four characters?" Define need first, because technically you do not need any characters besides the original eight. While I am being a little satirical the problem stems from the belief of many people that Super Smash Bros is the US House of Representatives and each series has representatives delegated to the roster appropriately reflecting each series sales and popularity. Truth is it does not work that way. The only time representation becomes an issue is from making sure an unseemly amount of characters make up the majority of the roster. Lets do a little math real quick (oh boy!):

Let's say the Donkey Kong group consists of Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Dixie Kong, and King K. Rool. Now let us also assume that the roster is, eh 45. Do a little simple mathematics.

(4*100)/45=8.8

That comes to 8.8% of the entire roster. I do not know about you, but that is not a lot.

Black Shadow:
Its a shame that F-Zero is the only series that debuted in Smash 64 (aside from Yoshi, which has the least self-identity of the Mario spinoff franchises) is still stuck with only Captain Falcon. Many Smash Bros. fans think its high time the series finally got a newcomer. However, there is also many that are upset that the villain of one of Nintendo's biggest franchises is still a clone of Captain Falcon and want Ganondorf to received a moveset that is more befitting of him (a sword and magic, or possibly Ganon's trident). However, there are also many people that love "Captain Ganondorf" and don't want to see his moveset changed. Sakurai cited this reason (that he did not want to alienate players who loved Ganondorf's Melee moveset) as the reason why Ganondorf was still "Captain Ganondorf" in Brawl. Its from here that there is a very obvious solution. Black Shadow is the main villain of the F-Zero series and Captain Falcon's arch-nemesis, he is also one of the two main characters that people suggest for a F-Zero newcomer (the other being Samurai Goroh). Black Shadow would be a natural fit for the slow, powerful version of Captain Falcon's moveset. By giving Ganondorf's Melee/Brawl moveset to Black Shadow, and by giving Ganondorf his own unique moveset, all parties are happy. Ganondorf gets his own moveset. F-Zero gets a second playable character. "Captain Ganondorf" fans still get to have the slow, powerful Falcon moveset. Everyone wins.
This one I am going to disagree with on the basis that I feel another F-Zero character is likelier. Samurai Goroh, let me start by why I feel Goroh is likely, and not Shadow.

Goroh: While there generally is not a lot of support for an F-Zero character Samurai Goroh has had a consistent fanbase since the time of Melee. While he does not exactly burn up the polls he remains consistent. There have been hints that Samurai Goroh is a character Sakurai keeps coming back to with him being one of only three other characters not playable featured in the opening cinematic of Melee, and being an Assist Trophy in Brawl. Now, what exactly he could do is another question. Honestly I have no idea. He is not one of my particular favorite character prospects, but my personal criteria is very fickle and shallow so it does not hold much weight.

He also fills the antagonist bill, though not quite as snugly as Black Shadow does. Which is a nice little segue into why I am more skeptical of Black Shadow.

Black Shadow: I think my biggest problem with him is he is a character people support disingenuously. There are not many people that I have seen that honestly support him for who he is; rather than they want him to absorb Ganondorfs moveset. I hate to break it to people, but Ganondorf's moveset is not changing even if Black Shadow were in. The reason I proclaim this very confidently is because Sakurai addressed the issue of changing Ganondorf's moveset already, with Brawl. At the time he was asked the question he said he did not change Ganondorf too much so as to not alienate all of those familiar with his playstyle in Melee. If he did not do that with Brawl he is certainly not going to change him in the next set of games. The potential irony involving Black Shadow and Ganondorf is that Ganondorf will likely retain his old moveset and Black Shadow will receive something fresh; or you will wind up with two Captain Falcon clones. Even the latter prospect is not that big of an issue because "clones" are not something that reprehensible. That is for a future time to discuss.

TL;DR

"NOOO!! This character is not popular enough. He doesn't deserve to be in my Smash!" "AHHHH!!! This character is stupid! I don't want him in my Smash!" "EEEKKK! This character looks so boring! He shouldn't be in my Smash!" "ARGHARGHARGH!!!! If X is in the game but Y is not, I won't buy this game!"

I do not think you are emotionally mature when it comes to playable characters in Super Smash Bros. games. Grow up.

The only reason Little Mac isn't #1 most likely (but instead #2), is because some people say his popularity is low in Japan and Punch Out! didn't sell well there.

Takamaru doesn't get much love :( but someone recently made me change my mind about him. I had him in my roster, but if I had to ax 4 people, he would be one of them. Now I'm considering putting him back in.

Balloon Fighter gets a lot of hate because Sakurai apparently said he'd be stupid w/o his balloons. But, he could just air them up with Down B like Olimar and his Pikmin. But we don't really talk about retro that much, but Lip seems to dominate currently.

The people there said Japan like Victini, but I would trust this board more. It's basically 50/50. Also Mewtwo sounds like he's debated more than he is here. A lot of people aren't convinced he'll return.

Isaac is considered a shoe-in on G-Faqs. One person didn't put them in their roster, and the whole topic was flooded with people telling him to put in Isaac.

Looks like people view Shulk and 3rd party the same.

As for me, I personally think that the Zelda and Kid Icarus reps are yet to be determined. It's too early to decide. I'm pretty sure we don't know Palutena/Medusa's plot significance in the next game. Whoever is more important in that game with be playable IMO. With Zelda, we could very easily get a Zelda 3DS game announced this year. I mean, it isn't all that likely, but it's still very possible IMO.

Also, I PERSONALLY view the Mario reps as such: Bowser Jr > Paper Mario > Waluigi > Toad. No other Mario character should even be considered playable IMO. I just view Toad as not being significant toward the plot, being easily replaceable, and what really make me not think his chances are great are his spin-off roles. He's a sidekick in Super Mario Strikers Charged, and he's generic in Super Mario Sluggers, a game where even Birdo was a captain. But that's all my opinion. I'm probably going to bed now, but we'll see.

It has nothing to do with that. We want character that matter, not random characters with very little potential. With smash bros, the characters help sell the game. With other fighting games (minus crossovers), characters are made solely for that series/game.

Literally the whole point of this is comparing this character to that character. I think Meowth, King Hippo, the Duck Hunt Dog/Ducks, and Tingle are some of the least interesting characters with the least possibility. I want the characters that could add THE MOST, not the least. Seeing these types of characters added would tell me that the smash bros development team has run out of ideas. Literally Game Arts has already done enough damage to smash bros franchise already with how boring Brawl is to watch. If they did that again and put in this roster, I simply wouldn't be interested.
I do not think you are emotionally mature when it comes to playable characters in Super Smash Bros. games. Grow up.
I don't think you are emotionally mature enough to handle rejection or someone rejecting your opinions.Every time you come in here you go on and on about how we're all wrong and how you are right. Seriously, get over yourself and your ideas. Stop acting like you are better than me or anyone for that matter and actually listen to what we are saying. I worked hard for my money and I'm not about to fork over a good share of it to some game with characters I don't give a crap about or be told I am ignorant for not buying such a game. I don't do it with other fighting games, and I reserve the right to not buy it with smash!

Raise your hand if you believe you have a good solid roster. one you can stand behind.
i want to know if you would still stand by that roster if you were betting cold hard cash on the final outcome. the closest to the final roster gets the pot... any incorrect choices is minus points.

Meh, I'm just going to lump Palutena and Medusa together since they are both in the same boat in my opinion. Chrono does a good job tackling most of this, but I'll add my two cents as I have been doing. Going to change my direction of how I address the last point set of posts so they are more commentative. Although I doubt many are even reading at this point.

Palutena:
Kid Icarus Uprising is perhaps Sakurai's first big-budget project that was not Kirby or Super Smash Bros. Uprising is also one the most notable upcoming games for the 3DS. Its possible that this game will be for Kid Icarus as Ocarina of Time and Metroid Prime were for their respective series, basically creating a whole new generation of fans who love the series. There is also the fact that there are many who want to see more female characters. Unlike most other female characters, Palutena is actually the one of the most important figures in her series, and she is probably the second most important/notable Kid Icarus character next to Pit. She is so notable that she was the only other KI character aside from Pit that was re-designed for Brawl. There are some that say that she can't be in due to already being a part of Pit's Final Smash, however, considering how much new content is being added to the series as a result of Uprising, it quite likely that there will be a few changes to Pit's moveset. Also, there is a very obvious new Final Smash for Pit:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Tl4A6pvr3g Palutena will also have two OVAs centered around her in promotion for Kid Icarus Uprising. I would talk more about Palutena's moveset possibilities (staff, magic), however, I am going to wait until Uprising and the OVAs are released before I can get a much cleared idea what she is capable of. Palutena will probably become one of the most requested characters for Smash 4 after the release of Uprising.

Medusa:
A lot of the things I mentioned in the paragraph for Palutena can be repeated here. She is the third most important character in the Kid Icarus series after Pit and Palutena. Like Palutena, she will be receiving an OVA centered around her to promote Kid Icarus Uprising. There are some that feel that three Kid Icarus characters would be really pushing it, and perhaps so, however, depending on how well Kid Icarus Uprising is received, perhaps it could be warranted, especially considering if both Palutena and Medusa experience a massive surge in requests due to Uprising's success.
All of this stuff is poignant, but it hinges upon whether Sakurai's humility takes over. This is the same man that did not include King DDD and Meta-Knight in Super Smash Bros. Melee, despite being heavily requested mind you, because he did not want to cast an image of being partial to his own work. With Kid Icarus being his latest work he might approach the series the same way. Maybe his development team might be able to persuade him otherwise, I don't know. How the fans respond to the game will probably be more important in this case than others because, it is Sakurai's latest baby after all. If for some bizarre reason Kid Icarus: Uprising just did not take off and died Sakurai is probably going to be a little upset and not feel up to cramming Uprising content into the next Smash Bros games. If it does well, which is what I am expecting, than we might see one character make it. My money is on Palutena if so.

The reason I feel Palutena has an edge in this matter is because there is a trend among each series in Super Smash Bros. There seems to be this habit of adding a support character after the main character of a series is included. Patterns are not absolute, if you need evidence of that just look at Pokémon Black and White 2, but it is something that makes you stop and go "huh". Outside of this little thing Palutena also seems to be the recipient of the most characterization in Kid Icarus: Uprising. Lively personalities are attractive and the dialogue between Pit and Palutena, while cheesy, is endearing and able to make both of them stand out. Since Pit is already in Super Smash Bros and not going anywhere this does not do much for him, but it does help Palutena.

Medusa will receive a bit of support because the combination of being a female and a villain is attractive to people. Whether that is or is not to Sakurai is uncertain. Whether both make it in I could say. That really depends upon whether Sakurai thinks he, or anyone else, may ever revisit the Kid Icarus series.

#2 is still pretty high for him. I don't think Little Mac is anywhere near as popular/seen as likely here. We tend to think that someone like K. Rool, Dixie Kong, Ridley, or Mega Man are the most likely (along with a 5th Generation Pokémon).
Takamaru doesn't get much love :( but someone recently made me change my mind about him. I had him in my roster, but if I had to ax 4 people, he would be one of them. Now I'm considering putting him back in.
He isn't a well known character (outside of Japan), an people tend to be naturally pessimistic towards characters they don't know. He is very popular in Japan, and Sakurai has stated (on the Melee Dojo) that he likes Takamaru, and if he got another game, he would probably add him in smash.

I think with a few characters short of all the big name Nintendo characters already being playable in smash, Takamaru has got at least a decent shot at being playable.
Balloon Fighter gets a lot of hate because Sakurai apparently said he'd be stupid w/o his balloons. But, he could just air them up with Down B like Olimar and his Pikmin. But we don't really talk about retro that much, but Lip seems to dominate currently.
Sakurai said (again on the Melee Dojo) that he didn't know what the Balloon Fighter would do without his balloons. In one of the balloon fight games (at least the cover) he had a gun, lol! That could work!
The people there said Japan like Victini, but I would trust this board more. It's basically 50/50. Also Mewtwo sounds like he's debated more than he is here. A lot of people aren't convinced he'll return.
From my reliable sources (ChronoBound, I think KumaOso, and Shortiecanbrawl) Zoroark is hated in Japan, but they see him as inevitable (and possibly a replacement for Lucario, whom most smash bros fans like). They like Victini (probably more than Zoroark), but again, they see Zoroark amongst the most likely newcomer character.
Isaac is considered a shoe-in on G-Faqs. One person didn't put them in their roster, and the whole topic was flooded with people telling him to put in Isaac.
I haven't visited GameFAQs in a while since my bro Super Smash Bros. Fan disappeared because he saw Victini's chances as zero. However, for some reason I wanna say a tad more people here see Issac not making the roster than making the roster. Most of us, again, love him, but because of Matthew, they don't see him getting in. It is a mystery to me because many people have Saki in, even though his franchises' two games has sold maybe 100 copies (versus about 3 million by Golden Sun's 3 games).
Around here we think that characters represent themselves and not their franchises, and get in by themselves. Generally we don't think there will be another Zelda character. Some people think Tingle (most of us here don't like him), and like 3 people say Impa, but most who do say we'll get another Zelda character say Ghirahim. That is it. Oh, and most of us want Ganondorf to get a sword, which is self-evident.
Personally I say Paper Mario > War (no shot except as a random) > Toad = Bowser Jr. > My poop > Waluigi. I think only Paper Mario, Bowser Jr., and Toad will be considered. I have stated multiple times I personally have a "gut feeling" that Paper Mario will be playable.
Lol, is Arcadenik of all people telling someone to grow up?
I had my laugh for the day.
I don't understand why he chose me to go after. I try to treat people with respect, be funny, and give good points. I do that right=??? I don't act too immaturely, do I=???

@ TheFirstPoppy
I already ate everything Shortie owns, including Krystal, his love of Ridley (meaning I love Ridley EVEN MORE!), and his life. :troll:

@ Yani
Act like this too. ;) Either way is cool by me!

@ Star
We ought to start archiving good points (like yours' and Chrono's) on specific characters on the SSB4 thread. Pros/Cons as to whether or not they will be/should be/could be/are worthy of being playable characters in Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS.

TL;DR

This accurately sums up 95% of character arguments.

Raise your hand if you believe you have a good solid roster. one you can stand behind.
i want to know if you would still stand by that roster if you were betting cold hard cash on the final outcome. the closest to the final roster gets the pot... any incorrect choices is minus points.
I think mine is solid, but I'm not betting anything. It's got a good number of requested characters, a few bizarre/random choices, the retro characters (Lip and Takamaru) and a WTF?! character in Tom Nook.

All of this roster talk is making me want to do my own (possibly silly) write up as well.

@Johnknight: Archiving those points? That may be a good project for the BRs to do as a separate project from the info thread (yes I have plans for the future).

I have made rosters, but my opinions, views on things, and "gut feeling" have changed a bit or become more clear to me than the last time I did a roster. I think I will, however, save my roster for a character prediction thread once Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS are formally revealed. I think I have a few "unusual" ideas a lot of you haven't thought of. Plus, I want to be Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS' character guru on Smash Boards (much like Wiseguy and McFox were with Brawl).

@ ---
Exactly. That way we can get good ideas on each side and good points archived for later use.

@ augustflores
I think, in terms of Victini support, asage is clearly the heir to the Smash Boards throne... just like how I own the Toon Link throne pre-Brawl (along with my pal y.toonlink.underestimated).

I wouldn't be surprised if Toise opened up a betting thread at some point.

As for SSBF, I've been trying to contact him about that, seeing as I've been voted to take up the torch. The better question is, what the heck happened to Spydr?

I don't remember Spydr's post too well, aside from a few posts and making the SSB4 Back Room. I think he posts a lot in the SSB4 B Room.

Anyways, you tend to find during character prediction periods people tend to disappear randomly, even if they have a ton of posts.

Also, what the heck is up with Toise=??? I only ever see him on in the
Smash 4 Back Room!

you should have your roster before the big reveal or else you're the kind of weenie who waits until things get revealed to you.
during the big reveal, there will most likely be characters whom are new the the scene... those WILL inevitably be on your roster if you wait after the (hypothetical) reveal.

@Johnknight: Spydr has been gone for quite a while now, just look at this profile, it'll say he hasn't been here since Mid-January. For the most part though, he keeps his posts in the Discussion Group (where he is king).

Toise pretty much hates this thread (calls it ****** City), so he really only posts in the Discussion Group, I honestly don't blame him though.

This is probably the last post of Chrono's I'm going to comment on. Everything else is fine and does not need any further expounding on. Plus I'm a little tired and want to close this up. I really procrastinated from my schoolwork this evening...

Saki:
The appearance of Saki as an Assist Trophy and the release of Sin & Punishment for the Virtual Console made many people think of Saki as a great addition to Smash 4. Sin & Punishment even received a sequel since Brawl's release. Due to the success of the Virtual Console release and his Assist Trophy appearance in Brawl, most S&P and Smash Bros. fans still prefer Saki over his son Isa when the topic of a playable S&P characters comes up. However, a major concern over Saki is that S&P is still very niche and a much smaller series than every other series with a playable character already in Smash Bros. (with the exception of the retro characters). Sakurai seems to think highly of him even remarking that he was highly requested even back during pre-Brawl, and remarking how well Saki fit in with the rest of the Smash Bros. cast despite being an Assist Trophy. There is also Sakurai's love of rail shooters in general. Another advantage of including Saki over Isa besides familiarity and more popularity, is that the Virtual Console release of Sin & Punishment means that people would be able much more able to buy Saki's game than Isa's (which is a retail release).
Saki is one of those characters that Brawl introduced me to. I remember seeing him on the Super Smash Bros DOJO update having no clue of who he was, but thinking he looked cool. Him being in the game spurred me to purchase Sin and Punishment (and the sequel Star Successor) which is a title I probably never would have looked at otherwise. Why I mention this is because I was not the only one. A lot of people were introduced to Saki the same way. Sakurai mentions that he included Saki because he got a lot of votes from fans. Whatever votes he received then is only going to be more in the next poll. More people are familiar with Saki now than before. I'm sure there will be kids that will recognize him as "that one blonde kid that pops out of the trophy thing". Brawl has helped to make him a character that will always be recognized. This is why the niche nature of his game and the sequel really holds little bearing on whether Saki can become a playable character. If anything the release of Sin and Punishment: Star Successor gives Sakurai more material to work with than before. I'm sure he will be looking more at the fact that a sequel was made than how the sequel performed.

Saki was also teased in his update as looking like a playable character, or in Sakurai's word "he rivals just about any main character." Nit picking a little, but still he seems to emphasize the fact that Saki looks like a fighter. Which is kind of funny because Saki appears to have the highest level of detail for any Assist Trophy character apart from Grey Fox. He also happens to have some of the most animations apart from Grey Fox. If Saki, or any other AT, went from special character to playable would not be too shocking. Charizard was unplayable in both Smash 64 and Melee, yet playable in Brawl and probably will be in the next games as well.

are there other characters that stand out in the S&P series that you believe may show up as a boss or AC?

I will and kinda have. I am, however, not going to do a traditional roster, but a roster with 60-65 characters so I can get a lot right.

I made this video predicting the Brawl roster. I made the list the day before Ike was revealed (I uploaded the video a few hours after Ike was revealed), and I was right on nearly everything. I just didn't have the Pokémon Trainer, R.O.B., and Olimar (I accidentally forgot him on the video!).

Saki is viewed pretty highly on G-Faqs, just sayin'. No one really debates him; everyone accepts him basically. I haven't seen anyone reject him from a roster in weeks if not months.

And I'm pretty sure near-everyone on G-Faqs looks at series representation. They don't look at what each character has done. For instance, I made a roster with the same 4 Zelda reps, and was told to add another because it's a part of Nintendo's Big 3, and it deserves a 5th rep if Mario and Pokemon are getting 5-6 reps too. Then I went on to mention that it would seem like filler because Ghirahim or whoever I'd add would be sooo much less popular that the Triforce Trio. I feel the same way about Waddle Dee.

BTW, In any roster I make, Tingle is out of the question. Little kids getting beat up by that freaky dude isn't a good thing. He's creepy and not a fighter.

Here we all generally like Saki, but we are mixed as to whether he is "worthy" for smash bros. I think we all agree he could fit, but I think many/some of us would rather have this character or that character.

I use to be like all those GameFAQs people, but then I realized we don't play as franchises; we play as characters. No one plays as the Legend of Zelda franchise. They play as Link, Sheik, Zelda, Young/Toon Link, and Ganondorf. That's it. All the other "represented" Legend of Zelda stuff is the stages, music, trophies, stickers, references, bosses, event matches, pictures, etc.

Some people here think Tingle could work as a fighter. I kinda agree, but he isn't interesting enough to make me wanna play the game more. I want characters that interest me enough to make me want to play the game more; that make me more hyped!

I have no problem with Spydr wanting to do that, especially with the great discussions we have in the group.

I won't lie though, I did bring you up on the recruitment thread.
You were turned down...

60%!? I'd say around 30-40%. Anyway most of us keep our serious posts in that group rather than here anyway.
