the exact height of a grounded spring
actually you dont have to be at the very very peak, there is some leeway but you have to be near the max height you get from a grounded spring.
holy crap this thread is officially useful now, we just averted another bogus thread being made right here...
although i dont think do-day would do that but w/e

also... the greatest thread ever made on SWF...

Ah right I see. Sometimes I don't bother using Dair since using it incorrectly leaves me vunerable. I sometimes just fall down or try to (stupidly) aggresivly Nair someone. Are there any other better things I could do after using Up + B

And hey, I'm sensible :(

You can try air-dodging+fast falling.

As long as your not facing a really quick character(AKA anyone but sonic, lol), than there usually is no problem in just falling down. Although you should definately work on waiting that extra half a second so you could reach the peak of the spring before you use Dair. Autocancelled dair is too helpful.

Really, just go in training mode, jump around with spring alot, and get a feel for the height you need to be at for dair to autocancel. You best option is usaully to hold shield as you go to the ground in you find yourself in a defensive position. Be warend that a quicker character might be able to reach you and grab you though. But overall you shouldnt have real trouble returning to the ground from an UpB. Except maybe against MK, cuzza tornado lol.

Also keep in mind that if you do a spring in the air, you get less height than you would if you did a grounded spring.

Really.

So if you do a spring straight out of a SDR, it's an instant aerial spring, so you get less height from it than you would normally.

Ricker-dee peachperson visits the Sonic boards a bit, so I really doubt he would have made a stupid move like making a new thread for this.

How come Sonic has low power? why didn't the programmers make sonic have more power?
Because the game is unbalanced, he has good speed and a good grab game, so the programmers thought he needed less power to balance that out.

Imbalanced, not unbalanced.

If we look at it from their side of things, Sonic's spindashes and spindash combos really even out the whole power thing.

If you fight against a REALLY crappy player who doesn't ever dodge or shield, spindash combos will rack up damage the quickest.

Hey guys,

Does sonic have any close range game, or is medium range (spinning) always the best? I've realized that the u air autocancels pretty nicely against or through a shielding/sidestepping opponent, but what else is there to follow up? Usually any of my tilts can get punished quite easily against a shield.

I think it would be helpful to know sonic's close range abilities against spammers like Pit, Falco, etc. I've got spinning down pretty well, I just want more options against those spammers that limit my usage of it.

Thanks in advance.

Tilts get shield punished? Really? Hm, that's weird. Utilt and Dtilt might, but F-tilt has a good range, decent priority, and can shield poke. I think that's pretty good.
D-tilt is also okay at close range, comes out pretty fast and hits them up for either jab combo or U-tilt.
Jab comes out in 3 frames so it's fast, but it's range isn't so great. You can also get in close and shield-grab. Sonic has a really good grab game and pummel can help refresh your moves. D-smash is pretty good on spotdodge happy people as it lasts quite a bit and will hit them after the spot dodge. Short Hop a F-air? Jump over B-air?
And don't use spins too much. Um, but a good spin move is to jump and use Down-B.
Tenki has a whole thread on the Side-B/Down-B differences and uses. There used to be a move discussion place too. :O Check out the thread index for good guides.

Nice thread you got going on here lol It does seem to work (except that a lot of the posts are by old members and kinda spammy :/). Anyway, the thread of the same name (or topic I should say) is working. Spam threads are down but 2 just emerged. One is a "what if" thread and the other could've been a post on the Q&A thread. We're ignoring them.

I've basically covered his close range game so far in my : "Sonic Moveset Discussion" thread.
Which I had forgotten about completely since just now lolol.
I'll update it later when I'm not doing sociology essays.

Yeah, I don't know why people ignore the Q&A thread on the Link boards...

up air to jab should work on people that are shielding if you fastfall the up air correctly, but if the up air hits, it will hit them too high for the jabs to hit

also, sonic has about an average close range game.
you just have to learn how to max out the spacing on all his moves
if you are too close, everything he has is shield grabable.
but all the moves have their uses.
down tilt is quick and if spotdodged allows for a free grab or jab combo
forward tilt has good range and cant really be shield grabbed if spaced right
up tilt should only be used on opponents directly above you.
hold the a button for your jab combos so that they dont hit you back before its over.
forward smash has deceptive range.
just experiment with all the moves and figure out where they work

To name a few punishers of Sonic's f-tilt punishers, there are Snake and MK's f-tilts. Maybe I'm just playing too high of tier though, lol. I think a lot of other moves punish my f-tilt, but maybe that is because I'm not using it's max distance; I'll have to try it out some more.

Thanks for your other advice too. I use all of the stuff you said regularly except for d-smash, but it does have some uses that I'm trying to figure out. The down-B aerial cancel is my favorite mind game with sonic, and his grabs are awesome!

Thanks for your help!

Thanks for your advice too. I'm trying to incorporate jabs into my game more, and I'll try to further my knowledge of tilts as well.

I have two questions that I always been wondering for a while...

1.Because of his homing attack does sonic has a projectile same goes for his spin dash?

2.I have heard a rumor that if you pop the balloon in smashville 10,000,000 times you will unlock Roy, Mewtwo, Geno, Ridely and Jimmy T.

is it true I just want to make sure it's true before I waste my time does anybody know the answer?
