not really. their consoles were always region locked. the game boy series was region free and so was the ds, but starting with dsi even those are region locked now. so if anything they are changing to even more hardcore region locking.

without good content to me console specs are pretty much redundant, just because it can pump out better graphics doesnt neccesarilly mean that nintendo will suddenly start pushing out better games.

I theorise:

Smash 4 Special Features:

1. Random Character Selection
2. Random Stage Selection
3. Random button layout that changes mid-match at random intervals
4. Random chance of spontaneously dieing for no reason.
5. Randomly generated items with random textures/random polygon shapes with random effects.
6. Random Damage/Knockback on all attacks.
7. Random inputs required for attacks.
8. Randomly generated music/sound effects.
9. Randomly generated ruleset.
11. The currently winning player will have a 100% trip rate and 8x lag on all attacks.
12. Wii-U will randomly turn off.
