Erich: You john. A lot. Claiming that you weren't trying to win, that you weren't in the zone, lots of stuff. You've been called out on it before, but it continues, so w/e, I've come to accept it as a normal behaviour for you. I don't care about it much anymore, mostly I let it go because barring the johns, you're an awesome guy. I mean, out of all the character flaws to have, "makes unreasonable complaints about video games" is probably one of the better ones.

Paul, when you say you went to the smashfest just to hang out, welcome to my mindset circa Brawl's release - present. It's the reason that even though Brawl is a bad competitive game, I can't dislike it...it helped me to realize that Smash is nothing but a conduit for social activity, not something to be pursued in and of itself. I'm in the same boat when you say you don't play Smash anymore (Hell, I lost my Brawl disc weeks ago). I mean, if someone asked me "Do you bowl?" I'd probably answer "Um, no," but I still don't turn down a chance to go bowling, because it's basically just several hours of hanging out punctuated by the occasional game of smash...err, frame of bowling.
Hmmm...I agree with you Steven. I do john a lot, or at least I used to. I'm better now, but I really don't john about anything else other than video games. Sometimes I'm merely stating a fact. At smashfests, I NEVER TRY. EVER. I'm always screwing around and trying to have fun or try new things(and getting frustrated at not being able to pull it off), I don't have the play to win(PoW!!) mindset. And...this might sound like(guess what?) a JOHN!!! BUT...a lot of the times recently I john for lack of a better subject to talk about, ya know? Kinda like hearing myself talk, hehe. Half the time I don't even mean it.;) Anyways, I'll try to work more on that, eh? Just recognize why I do it/the environment we're in. If I'm in a REAL tournament, slap me. If we're at a smashfest, smile and nod. :)

And I definitely agree with your second paragraph here. I play smash(almost, but not quite) solely for the reason of meeting new people and hanging out with old buddies. It's a really great social life to be part of, ja?

Hmmmm...I'm taking another hiatus from these boards everyone. See ya sometime in the future!!!!!;)

Erich out.

Erich, I distinctly recall hearing "I hate how I'm vulnerable right before I dodge" multiple times in a recollection of playing you in tournament. I love ya, man, but even I john less, son. And I can john something fierce when I'm not satisfied with my performance.

Question: who all here is a perfectionist, and do they find themselves calling out their errors/getting annoyed about their performance when their execution is spot on? Do you go away from a match happy if you feel like you've done your best, or are you still pissed that you lost?

Most of the time, when I lose I am fine with it. But when i lost because of Klaptraps and suicides, I was pretty pissed.

Ask Dai-a, when I lost to him with only two suicides, I was fine with it overall.

Tony, I think you deserve an award for being so hilarious.

In response to you Ferdi, AltF4 and especially his girlfriend are way awesome in person. I don't know what to say about the mod thing. I haven't had problems.

As for your question, Tony, I think that's all I do, but I keep it to myself 99% of the time. Unless it is a friendly, sometimes I will ask them, "what did I do wrong," or what can I do otherwise?"

It really frustrates me when I know exactly what the opponent is going to do, exactly what I need to do in response, and yet for some reason some **** will happen. For example, I know the person will land into a sidestep, so I run up and Up Smash which is a two hit attack, but they still dodge both hits. Stupid stuff like that. Next time it happens I'll wait a little longer, and it still won't work or something.

Oh well.

Didn't you pick the stage? Pretty sure the whole set wasn't on it, either way. He had to have won at least one other match.

Then again, when you suicided on Smashville during crews, you seemed to not have noticed that you were dead either way.

Davis, I tend to john more during friendlies than tournament, oddly enough. I do have my moments, though. Like when I lost to Yang in tournament, said "Fuck that! Money match, right now", and essentially forced him to MM me right after. Probably the worst thing I've done. I also have a penchant for calling out my mistakes as they happen, mainly to remind myself of what I'm doing wrong. I work on it, but it's definitely one of my flaws.

Huh. True dat, but it's a fact that you are vulnerable right before you dodge. But I'm still Johning.:lick:

And the main reason I posted this is in response to your second paragraph. YES, I AM A HUUUUUGE PERFECTIONIST. I'm never(never being an exaggeration. More like extremely rarely) satisfied with how I did. Really. Even when I win I still think on what I did wrong and why I suck so much. USUALLY. So I still have complaints, but not as vocal. That's part of why I john. When I lose, I'm more vocal as a way of running steam if I'm mad. See? Look, I'm making "johns" to explain my "johns". Bah, I hate the whole concept of johns. It's just another thing for people to call you out on.

Now...can we move past all this "john" nonsense? I really don't care anymore if I john. I'll do it if I want. I don't "john" because I want to claim I'm superior. Rather, I do it vocally when I lose or even sometimes when I win to blow off steam and stay calm. Lately this has become less of an issue, but you guys probably wouldn't notice. Trust me, you all "john" too, but at different times than me and for different reasons probably.:)

Erich, I must apologize for cursing when unnecessary as well. As for being unkind, well I can't deny that. However, rest assured Erich, I am easily just as mature as you mentally, emotionally, and socially. Excluding the physical part :p Everyone knows I just act like that because I want attention. I'm glad you liked the fest though.
It's all good Neil. Don't worry too much about it, but your concern touched me. Really, the only friend who is all that good about it is Paul. I don't know if he swears when I'm not around, but I don't care nor do I need to know. I'm very glad he CHOOSES not to do so around me. And that is a very, very big part of why I consider him a better friend-and he's probably my closest friend for that matter-than most of the other people I hang out with. Whether you choose to or not is up to you Neil, but I will always respect you more when you go out of your own comfort zone to respect other people's views.:) You're still a cool guy, no matter what you may do in the future.;)

OK!!! Last post has been made. I'm seriously taking a hiatus from the boards now. Seriously. Maybe.

Nah, Erich, I know EXACTLY what you mean. Even when I win, if I'm not playing at peak performance, I get kinda annoyed/really annoyed, tangent on how bad it is. I also do the "I should be doing this" thing to both remind myself and let off some frustration.

Ask people about me complaining about Sonic's mid-air dodge for the longest time. It was sad.

I need some help. I am going to the Colorado Thespian conference, and I am going to be auditioning for scholarships, I am trying out in the Musical Theater division.
My range is a low a to high F#, before going into Falsetto.

Anyone got song choices from musicals?

Is there any more news for the tourney on the 20th?
News is:

Tourney registration's starting around 1ish, during which we will set up and make for absolutely certain that we've got all systems set and ready for the tournament, as well as making sure there's no lag on screens ~.~

registration is 1-3PM, meaning once one system is set up and good to go friendlies can start there until registration ends.

The pay-in is 10$/person for singles and 10$/team for doubles. Same rules as the tourneys prior.

Now my question for everyone else: do we want the semis/finals to be done on a modded wii without tripping? Of course, my vote is yes, I'd just like everyone else's opinion before throwing it in there (but honestly, need it be asked? I mean, that s***'s random T.T)

Also: the reasoning for changing venues from Ninja to DMD is 1) Ninja takes money from the tournaments despite it bringing in booming business in the first place and 2) Ninja is a tiny lan center with not nearly enough screens/seating for any decent sized tourney to run well.

I'm all for the ARd Wii for semi's and finals for no tripping. One question though, after the registration ends are we going to be doing Singles or Doubles first?

Yeah, I definetly should be there! I've only been to one real tournament before and I wasn't as good as I am now (which isn't that much better, haha) but I'm looking forward to playing some friendlies with you guys and maybe getting some smashfests set up.

I might be able to make it. It depends on how long my mandatory rehearsal lasts.

Hey guys. My internet's been down for the last two days :(

So I love you all so much (Tony's right this thread is too much fun, almost as fun as playing smash itself) I really really really want to throw another fest :p But I think we're burned out. If you want to smash though, I'm free this weekend :)

Zach: I understand your shunning me at school. I know that anything I say or do won't change your mind or make it up to you, so all I can say is that I hope our friendship can repair itself over time. Nothing can outlast time, not even your grudges against me.

Davis: Sooo my dad who sounds like a constipated chipmunk went to Lowe's and I got a replacement for my favorite light :lick:

Erich: Just because you said that, I seriously will stop cursing at any smash event. Evar. For me, cursing is rather easy for me to control (hence the AZonetwostep bet). Thanks for the motivation buddy.

Steven: I didn't get a chance to talk to Christian, but I really need to know: which of the three is the best? BTW teach me to be pro in SCIV.

Xion: It was a pleasure meeting you, and I can't be more straightforward in the fact that your ike is better than mine. Simple as that. Also sorry the tourney took too long (it was all my fault). Still, use a GC controller.

Sinz, I don't know anything about musicals, except for the simple fact that doing High School Musical is a taboo. Also I wouldn't mind having my VCR back by the next fest. Thanks.

Paul: Well, I can't stop you in your life's pursuits, so I wish you the best of luck for the future if you truly intend to leave the community. Still, hang out with us. I know I'd give up a $1000 moneymatch in melee with a certain person just to hang out with him instead. *wink*

As for the Sept 20 tournament, I think I'll be there anyhow. Maybe I can coax the manager to changing the lighting through my lack of puberty. for a side note, cameron burgard sucks at this video game franchise.

Peace, and to reiterate, I still love you all. This thread has been getting too hardcore and as Steven said, the Twinz need to haul their *sses over here and fix and/or hurt this thread.

It's friday afternoon and I want to play melee. I just invited Paul and he's coming over. If anyone else wants to play smash (brawl/melee/SC4/whatever) and just hang out for all of Friday evening, I'm down.

This was posted on Friday at 3:00 pm. Give me a call at 400-9215 if you're free right now and we can smash it up for at least 6 hours. :)

Xion: Way to use normal logic to pwn my neilian logic.

I have a vrc tape, not a vcr. I never took your vcr, so I am confused.

Holy ****.

I'd fly in for $1000.

Does anyone want to hang out today and smash (or play any other game)?

Just call or text me.

And by smash I mean Melee.

Mother of god, despite how I don't think the opponent was that good, the diddy was still insane. That was melee speed right there.

lol @ neil.
I stay with the wiimote because I feel it is most sensitive and has more reaction for me.
Are the finals going to be put on the big screen at the tourney on the 20th?

except when falco, ddd, wario, rob, gaw make it to the finals

I mean, really, any tourneys(outside pound) where the top guys in MELEE showed up, was it fox/marth almost everytime? Oh really? I'm fine with your claims about brawl being bad for other reasons, but you can't try to say brawl is imbalanced when you played melee as much as we did.
