The Hobbit's first few chapters are terrible.

Opinion, I thought that whole book was amazing.

You've obviously never read Hemingway or Card.

Opinion/Assumption.Although I will admit to never reading works by either.

So how many episodes in is this show supposed to get "good"?

First 2 are lame. 3 is okay. 4 is amazing. Then it's mostly uphill from there. The further you go, the better it gets. Though there are a few weak episodes along the way, like any series has.

rofl @ x-factor x) I meant him. From my experience with those authors, their books always start off fairly slow, but they end up as some of the best I've ever read.

Just in case you haven't actually started watching the show, the first two episodes are the weakest but provide a good intro to the series and it's universe.

EDIT: My favorite episodes are 13, 4, 16, 18 and 9. Idk what the others recommend or think are some of the better episodes.
