I enjoyed Tombstone.

Eraserhead is a notable flick I've watched over the past month.

watch men was good but way too much sex

with the 30 minutes of sex they could have explained how ELECTRICITY made a random guy turn into GOD and why no one else became god after they saw how to do it.

And really, If I wanted to watch a fat dude do a chick 20 years younger than he is, I could just watch some porn.

I went to Watchmen to be reminded that humanity pretty much blows, not to watch porn.

When I heard 'From the Director that brought you 300' I thought 'Oh great slow motion action scenes, stupid amounts of blood, and an unfitting over-prominent sex scene'

Then I read the comic and was like 'There are only 12frames (which amounts to about a page out of 100-150) of sex in the whole comic, and the action is very limited compared to most comics. No way he could make this movie like that' but I was sadly mistaken. Don't get me wrong I like 300, I saw it with the intention of enjoying epic action, but after reading one of very few comics to have real character/plot development and twist I was expecting a movie with similar qualities. Then they strayed very heavily from the plot that I had thoroughly enjoyed, and stripped out all the character development replacing it with sex scenes and action shots that didnt 'historically' happen.

Watchmen was good!!!

:colorful:
Watchmen shined best in the moments where it aped the book perfectly. If it had done that more, it wouldn't have been such a mediocre movie.

But even then, it's held up primarily by the incredibleness of the book.

That and Jon Osterman's dong.

*shrug* I thought Watchmen was great. this thread was about other movies, but saying "aka watchmen" in the first post pretty much made it another watchmen thread : (
let's try to keep it off watchmen...

The Departed is my favorite movie... I like Casino, There Will Be Blood, Survive Style Five Plus, Aliens, and a lot of others, but those especially.

As for dislike, Open Water is easily my number one hated.

Your mission is to watch Infernal Affairs (无间道). That movie is so good. I couldn't say either version of the story is better, but I kinda prefer Infernal Affairs because it's the original.

THANK YOU! I have not met anyone else in my **** life who loves the departed and watched the original!. i don't care if the ending is different, all it matters is an appreciation of original works before they go americanized.

I know Infernal Affairs, just haven't seen it yet.

But the reason I like the departed is small things, quotes and the actors and whatnot, which are likely not to translate to that movie. I am aware it's the original and such, but I like movies for odd reasons, and that one in particular for even weirder reasons.

Wow really? One less than 5 minute sex scene in a 2 hour 43 minute movie equates to too much sex? wtf is wrong with you people?

Also zoro it's better explained in the comic, as are a lot of things since it's a book without time limitations, but Osterman is able to become a blue guy because as a boy his father taught him how to reassemble the pieces of a watch and he applies the principle to his own body with the shred of consciousness that somehow remains of him after the accident.

Watchmen is a great movie. It's only march and already 2009 has produced a movie that's better than any movie of 2008. Suck it slumdog. I'm really excited for The Soloist!

5>6>4>>>>3>2>1 for me. FIVE ALWAYS FIRST. NEW TRILOGY LAST. HOPE AND JEDI ALMOST INTERCHANGEABLE BUT VADER REDEMPTION SCENE MAKES ME CRY NO HOMO.

lol.
Quoted for truth. Except that imo 1>2. But that's a small nitpick, because they're both pretty bad.

Haha Watchmen is only better than Slumdog to me because I am a super literature nerd and the Watchmen movie hit all the right notes to make me personally love it. Slumdog is a really good movie but I think if it was released in a different year it wouldn't get get all the attention it got, so I love to hate on it for no reason.

The Usual Suspects is really good. I saw Miller's Crossing recently and it's awesome but no one has seen it.

You mean translate from.

Although it's true that it you don't have much background in Chinese culture and the history of Hong Kong, you'll not pick up on all of the tidbits and neat things, so it may not appeal to you. I just happen to have 11 years of study in Mandarin and four years of study in Chinese history and culture under my belt, so there's a lot there that's fun.

I do wish I knew Cantonese so I could watch it in the original dub, because Cantonese is such a good language for being badass in (cf. Bus Uncle).

Edit: also, me three on being excited about The Soloist. Slumdog Millionaire was just not made to appeal to me. I have no desire whatsoever to watch it.

lol slumdog is so average I can't handle it. The awards this year depressed me so much and then I saw the montage at the end with all the good movies in it like Schindler's List and The Network and I was like "oh yeah, there are good movies in the world and it is an art form worth caring about." Before that I had forgotten it in all the mediocrity of last year.

Watchmen isn't that great either and in a year I probably won't care about it that much (like The Dark Knight) but right now I can't believe that a Watchmen movie of it's calibur exists and I love the hell out of it.

Hate to burst your bubble but nothing in 09 is going to touch the records of Dark Knight, and there are so many reasons that it is better than Watchmen comparing the two almost seems like a joke.
