Awesome post. Melee had a ****ing awesome year besides the tragic loss of NES n00b.

It looks like 2010 will be even better with Pound 4 kicking it off!

So what can we look forward to in 2010? The first words that come to mind for anyone should be *Pound* 4. The highly anticipated event looks to break records, as Plank and the MD/VA crew will host the tournament with a giant venue and a massive undertaking of resources to ensure the success of what should be one of the largest nationals ever - top players from across the country, Canada, and Europe have already been confirmed.

Without a doubt, the Melee community is still one of the most prosperous fighting game communities in existence. Though it is unable to consistently compete with Brawl for turnouts at the local level and regional level, the massive attendance at Genesis and the number of pre-registrants for *Pound* 4 should serve as proof that Melee still creates incredible national hype and can continue to produce healthy turnouts without the help of big names such as MLG or EVO.

Indeed, the excitement and incentive for players to keep playing has come from the heart of the community - exhilarating moments of commentary from West Coast, active-as-ever Character Specific boards on SWF, and great rivalries such as Mango vs. Mew2King. Furthermore, with TO’s everywhere embracing events that run both Brawl and Melee and it is hopeful that both games can co-exist in peace throughout the future of Smash.
legit. hooray for the most exciting/challenging game ever. long live the melee brothers. :bee:

****!
Amazing thread!!
Any doubts I had about the melee scene surviving totally 100% squashed
Shame on me for thinking such an amazing game could be brushed aside by the likes of brawl.

Long live melee, it's community, and it's **** *** videos!!

See you guys for years to come! And everyone out there, there's still time for upsets, make it happen !!

Any word on how different characters developed? I mean the tier list hasn't been updated but surely there's been shake-ups and changes... i.e. a huge revamp of the Jiggs metagame, Falco improving, Fox making less of a show, rise of Ganondorf, etc.

lol i wanted to make a sig w/ this Re: girlfriend johns

Girls will be remembered
but MELEE NEVER DIES.
well, i think melee will forcefully be killed. normal tvs, melee game discs, controllers, and cubes will be all extinct. grand finals of ROM 5 will be a bunch of sweaty late 20-30 year old ppl, whom most of never had a GF, hudling infront of one small tv yelling "WHERE YOU AT WEST COAST!"

we're doomed.

well, it was kinda an over exageration. you get the point though. melee will live, even without tvs.
By ROM5 i expect you'll be able to get $10 computer/tv hybrids that emulate melee perfectly while giving you a handjob.

Genius post, just the right length and i feel the European scene/character metagame etc... would be interesting but in another thread.

'twas a great year, full of surprises and revivals.
with yours truly finally going to tournaments this year, 2010 could be even crazier.

wars not make one great
Great op. I love how the Melee metagame is constantly evolving. Just look at Pound 3, which was the biggest and greatest Melee tournament before Brawl's release, and at a time where Fox and Falco reigned supreme and dominated the tier list, it was won by a West Coast Jigglypuff.

New things will always be happening and the upsets at national tournaments are always epic. This game is amazing.
