I know what you're talking about. But one of the best ways to NOT get grabbed by them is to actually grab them.

Does Mario's jab have knockback growth? I ask because I want to know if jab cancels like jab jab dsmash only work at a specific percent range or if its all the time.

Okay, so get this.

I was challenged by one of my non-competitive smasher friends to a "money match", except it's not really money but more like a "lunch match". He's really good for someone who doesn't play smash competitively, and I can consistently beat him usually on my 2nd stock with like 120%. However, the catch is, I have to play using a sidemote. I plan to use Snake for this because I'm thinking Snake would be the easiest to use with the sidemote, now I'm just wondering. How the hell do you up-tilt with snake? And how the hell do you taunt?

EDIT: And how the hell do you shorthop?

I have a question,When your in a match-up with Metaknight,Is there any good tactics to beat him in the air?

If he likes to Tornado (which you can bait by fireball camping), U-smash and Cape spaced correctly cleanly beat it.

Up-Bing occasionally is a good anti-air against Metaknight. Also decent out of shield here and there.

Crouching is good against his D-air camping, since he has to extend himself lower to hit you, which can bait him into putting himself in a more dangerous range.

Mix these in with your usual spaced B-airs I guess.

WOAH DID YOU GUYS KNOW YOU CAN GRAB INSTANTLY OUT OF CHARGING FLUDD?

Could this be useful as a mindgame, since usually Mario is assumed to have to shield to cancel charging?

Not surprised.

You can also U-smash and Up-B out of charging FLUDD (requires you to U-smash/Up-B out of shield). NinjaLink has been doing this as a gimmicky mindgame for a while.

Not my thing personally.

I didn't like it at all! I wanted to hype up SiiS5 but I couldn't! Lol so I am so psyched for this weekend! I want to do well in my pools! I don't think wanting to get into bracket is a realistic goal for this tourney but I have to try to do my best! Hopefully I'll get some good replays too!

@Jimmy: I think so, either that or its really hard to hit him.

Also, how the hell do you fight Game & Watch, god he's ******** with Mario.

Quick question, can Mario crouch under samus Zair?
YES you can, but not the tip of the Zair. If they space perfectly it will still hit. Crouching is still very useful though. I play a good friend of mine who mains Samus and that is what I can say about that.

It's ******** :(
There are like 4-5 GnW mains here and it's just stupid. Fireballs are pretty good in this MU if you use it properly. If you can bait a bucket with them, then you get a free hit on them in exchange for a bucket charge.

Don't try to gimp him, it will never work. And I haven't really found a way to safely recover against GnW :/ His dash attack goes through our up'b and stage spikes us, it's pretty gay. I guess we can cape stall, but meh.

I have no idea how to fight against the turtle, I just kinda run away from it. I think there's a way to SDI it, or angle your shield in a certain way to achieve something, I don't know. A2 probably knows something about this.

Oh, and if he chaingrabs you. FIST FULL OF COINS!!!

I hate Pit, lol. Should I be camping or rushing this winged *******?
Never played a real Pit, but I did secondary him for a little while. Cape doesn't work on his arrows, he just has to angle them towards your feet right before they hit and the cape just sends them straight into the ground.

Yeah, cape only works under some circumstances.

It's his priority that annoys the bejeezus out of me. His jab is just like Falco's.

Yeah, there are 3-4 GnW's here too, luckily none of them are amazing or anything so I can still win, my yoshi completely butt ***** them with 2 stocks most of the time (and its a -2 for yoshi lol) but with Mario I seem to go even/slightly lose with them :/

Just talked to Today about the GnW MU for Mario like 2 hours ago lol. SDI turtle towards GnW and you can get through pretty easy and punish that ****. Also, Today says GnW relies a lot on punishment and reads so I would say play very safe.

I did very well at SiiS5 today, if I do say so myself. Won a MM vs Gifts (Mario vs MK no less), Auspher (Wolf), and had some very close games with Tech Chase's DDD and Nope's Snake. I had a lot of people tell me that I have a very legit Mario and I had several times where when I was playing a match people would come over and not just glance, but stay and watch my matches. It was an awesome feeling. I did alright in pools, (6th out of 8 I believe) and I almost took a game off of Mister Eric. My pool consisted of Inui (MK), Y.b.M. (Kirby), Mikey Lenetia (Peach), Mister Eric (ROB), Mr. H (Snake), Thugz (MK), Commander (ROB), and myself. I beat Mr. H and Commander, and almost beat Thugz. It was a hard pool for a Mario main, but still I learned a lot and I am improving all the time!

Glad to hear that you won your MMs and some pools matches. Yeah, your pool looked tough to me...

How was Auspher's wolf?

Hmmm... Steep I have to find a way to play you again. I want to see how much you've improved since last time I played you (That was what, 2 SiiS's ago?).

Are you going to go to the OUGA tourny?

I played against you too Steep!

2-0 win for my Sheik/Pit. Like i told you in person, you did very well vs Pit on Battlefield (though i was trying to influence you towards PS1...) and wasnt it last stock last hit? I was a bit surprised to see you take me to Frigate when i played Sheik, but i dont think you knew that i love playing on the "strange" counterpicks. I love Frigate, Halberd, Rainbow Cruise and etc. It was smart but you didn't know that I favored that stage.

Our Mario ditto was kinda hilarious and awesome. First time I really enjoyed the ditto IMO.

From, I wish you would have been able to come. I saw Iska and Fizzle and was like: "Where's from at? noooooo".

Auspher's Wolf has certainly gotten a lot better, but it's kinda hard to explain it now since I've been playing vs it for years now.

I decided not to enter Brawl (I think I will do Melee) but am playing MMs. I beat steep 2-0, didn't use Mario though. Lost to Sombre 0-2 (I messed up an edgeguard last stock, we were both high % with Mario on BF and lost a lslh with Pit on Lylat). I'll be play Cheese with Mario today and maybe some others. I think I want to play Mikey L as well and probably Nicole also. Mostly Mario and some Pit.

Yes we did play Juu! Really nice Sheik and Pit and our Mario dittos were a blast! I have to learn that Sheik MU because you completely ***** me that game.... And no I didn't know you liked Frigate when I picked it.

Auspher's Wolf was pretty good but he should work on his defensive skills I think. He was awesome when he was on the offensive but as soon as I got inside he took a lot of damage / lost a stock.

Well, they didn't tell me they were going until about 3 days ago, and I need to know at least a week in advance if I'll have a ride if I want to get a weekend off. Sorry :(

I mm'd cheese's ICies with Mario. Lost game 1 on battlefield by one stock. It wasn't very close and he really took advantage of me having to reach and get aerials on his sheild. His edgeguarding with them was also pretty good but I only got gimped once.

Took him to frigate game two and he just kinda took over from there. I struggled with his sopo after making a risky, but successful attempt at blowing up his Nana with a max charge fsmash while they got separated.

He controlled the pace rather strongly throughout, but I felt relatively well with how I did vs him. He gave me some good advice too.

Not sure if it helps much, but if he is ever in a position where he needs to UpB offstage, even if it's just to recover Nana, hit him with a fireball. It clashes and makes the whole move stop and they fall in freefall.

Tip number one against Sheik: Stop jumping against her. Regardless of matchup, she ***** you if you jump (seriously, best anti-air options in the game by far). Once you learn to do this and become comfortable with your ground game, the matchup becomes bearable. She wins it slightly though.

If you understand how Street Fighter works, you'll probably do better in the Sheik matchup. Jumping is bad in Street Fighter, and the most important skill in Street Fighter is probably footsies. Being able to actively gauge ranges at where you can threaten to poke.

A2Z, you do seem to know a lot man. I wanna play you sometime. Thanks for the advice on the Sheik MU.

Does anybody have any advice on how to practice for tournies? I feel so bored playing against computers. I play against cpu Marth's when I want to practice spacing, and I put on a handicap when I want to practice safe playing/DI. Any other advice when not being able to play humans? I would greatly appreciate it!

I just practice technical tricks.

By technical tricks, I mean almost anything, ranging from:
*Jab cancels, timing and ranges where you can sweetspot Jabs (refer to this picture for information on the frame advantage for Jab cancels, if your frame advantage is 10 or higher on a character not named Kirby, you can reverse U-smash to juggle out of Jab cancel)
*Spacing where fireball -> reverse F-smash combos
*juggle "combos"
*how to navigate Rainbow Cruise comfortably
*knowing edgeguard limits on YI (you can really edgeguard low on this stage thanks to the wall)
*practicing positioning where you can bounce fireballs off objects on stages like Brinstar
*fooling around with items in training mode
*How to buffer anything imaginable. Fullhop U-air -> autocanceled D-air I believe is underused. U-air out of shield is actually still underused by most Mario users and is something that requires practice for proper implementation.

That's an example of what I do when I practice.

I also play a bit differently of a Sheik, steep. When I played TuTu back at SiiS4, I learned how long she could keep me (as in Mario) in an ftilt lock, but I usually do other things (like dsmash or grab to set up into goto throws or aerials) because my tech skill is admittedly poor.

I also DACUS pretty rarely, instead going for hyphen smashes since I know and control the range on those better. Play Judo next time you seem him for a bit more of a technical Sheik who is arguably closer. Seriously, he's ****ing amazing.

A2 is right about tech skill stuff though. Learn your stages, how they move and work and ideally, search around and see how your potential opponent's characters do. It certainly doesn't hurt to look at who you're likely to run into (that is, top players ofthe state like count or Krystedez) and learn about them.

Matchups like Sheik, Marth and like... Zero Suit though valuable are still rather unlikely for you to run into. Focusing on MK, Snake, R.O.B, Wario, Peach and the like are a lot more likely for you to see here in this side of the MW.

What do you practice on? Training mode? Lvl 7 cpu? Lvl 3 cpu?

Thanks for the advice btw, Juu and A2.

Not really, Z'. At least MK can't jump however the **** he wants. I would imagine Yoshi really can't either... but I don't play Sheik vs Yoshi either.

Judo, I summon you! Don't you have hadesblade experience?
