Chain Chomp had the very bad habit to drag you into **** on some tracks , or to let you and the worst places possible *cough * DK Mountain bridge, Muchroom City cars, etc...*cough*

special sure add some strategy on who you pick , when all 4 players knwo about , the race start at the character selection screen on wo will pick the best combo , me and my friends generally ended up with only one of the 2 characters we wanted when playing 4 players , since everyone wanted barrel train lol

? I thought it would be Baby Daisy with the Built Bike since lightweights are very easy to use and heavyweights are more complex. Daisy with the Mach Bike is in between easy and hard to use compere with the Baby Daisy and Funky Kong. ?
you have no idea what you're talking about, heavyweights are alot easier to use because of the weightstat being exaggerated, now 12 players on the track and most importantly positionlag.
A bullet bike (also mach, but especially bullet) has more room room for bits of driving error thanks higher drift, handling and accelleration true (though accel is actually nearly neutralised because standing MTs, and heavier players recovering faster from wheelie hits)
BUT the driving is not particularely difficult in mkw which is the mk with the smallest skillgap ever and driving well is basically all a bowser bike has to be concerned

with because of the weight while it's crucial for a bullet to be extremely aware of his surroundings as he will be tossed around by funky whores alot and his advantage is in mobility in the first place as he (on most courses, all in 100cc) is slightly inferior in speed so he needs to dodge and place items very well to manage. This is speaking of rooms with actual competetion where all players have above 9000VR of course.

Oh and heavy bikes don't bounce at all either which actually makes them easier to control in some ways too.

Sorry about the doublepost, my ps3 wouldn't let me type everything in just 1 ;)

edit: and double dash was awesome you could even dodge both red and blue shells with well timed miniturbos. The item system was a bit messed up in 4player though, but you could always just put them on basic ;)

ubermario are ultmario from the mkds days?
Anyway i guess i'll enter the whole skill debate a little. First of calling mkw the brawl of mariokart because is a legit analogy because it's been dumped down. Smash is more competetive than mariokart as a whole however.
All other kart games are quite different in how they are played effectively and it's hard to say which one that takes more skill but mkw is easily being bottom. Though it does get better for FFA offline with just 4 players and basic items.

However uber i would recommend you trying to get a friend roster with good players on and you'll see how important item strategy is in this if you want to place consistently well which some people certainly does more than others in this game. Team wars as thino mentioned are also more fun even when you aren't skyping as teamwork can still be done (very well shown by the dominant evul clan in the first 2 WCL seasons)

edit: getting 3 stars is so easy in mkw and mkds btw. only slightly worth mentioning for mksc :p

and a final message for quadruple post...

While i respect thino i disagree on character influence at least for the bullet bike. Not so much in wars where half the field will be supporting you, but in FFA i easily feel more confident with baby daisy than i do with my favourite character toad. I suspect this is simply because keeping away from people near you (potential ram) does get harder with that tiny bit of less speed which is why i say it might not be the case as much for heavier vehicles and is not as much the case in teams :)
(and the speed difference actually is rather big too. Tested it in TT on LC before and the difference between toad and b.daisy is actually bigger than the one between daisy and b.daisy...

I don't like Lightweights because they're too easy to get knocked around for the way I play, so I use Daisy or Funky Kong or my favorite, Waluigi, with Mach Bike and Flame Runner respectively. It's really not that hard to switch between heavy and middle characters. Sure lightweights are easy to use, but you're gonna get knocked around real easy, especially in courses like Rainbow Road.

Wow, a quad-post!!?? How about that edit button!?? Really comes in handy.... ;)

Nope, never heard that name before, although I'm very good at MKDS

I like playing independently (where everyone is against each other), which is why I don't like doing that.

MKSC isn't as easy as MKDS, and I could 3-Star MKWii, but I just haven't been able to find the game fun.

As long as you have a lucky break than Heavy is the best. Since drifting in MKW is easy, you won't find it hard to take the lead.

♣ I don't think it's that easy to get a 3 star rank. Mostly you have to avoid getting off road, don't get hit by the stage, don't fall off the stage, always place in first and make sure you finish the race quick etc. Playing SMK and MKSC would be the hardest to get triple star compare to MKDS and MKW. ♥

I know what you mean. I have Mario Kart 64, DS, and Wii. 64 is easily the hardest of the three in Grand Prix. I can one-star DS and Wii, but struggle past 150cc in 64.

Has anyone hacked the games or faced a hacker in a race? I ocassionally use AR in DS and have seen many hackers in both DS and Wii.

I thought it was impossible to use an AR for Wifi play on Mario Kart DS or many DS games with Wifi unless it's Tetris DS.

Nope. There are codes specific to wi-fi on DS. I frequently use the moonjump and speed codes. It's great to see a birds-eye view of Waluigi Pinball.

Oh those codes, yea I've seen them before, though sometimes those codes can backfire and make them lose as well. XD

Yep. It hasn't happened to me (probably because I've been playing Mario Kart Wii too much), but it did happen to someone else before I started using codes. He would starman everyone but this Bowser, but I was able to win against him by out-maneuvering him, thus making him fall into the water on N64 Choco Mountain on the final lap. I got away with a 2nd place win out of three (one disconnected).

It is easy.

Just drive properly and don't go off road or get hit by too many items and try have the lead all the time.

If at the start of the race you get item haxed just restart and try again but don't restart if you are on the 2nd, 3rd or 4th stage as you might still have a chance to get the 3 star ranking depends on how well you do in that race later on. You also need to come 1st in every race most likley.

Make sure you know what way to race in each track. Just watch some WR replays and you will see exactly how to drive.

I've decided to bump this in favor for a hack-attack story every week. Feel free to post your own, too.

It was 2:30 AM and I wanted to do some battles. The first battle, I saw Anarion was there. I recognized him from Jughead870's Youtube race against him; Anarion hacked on DS Delfino Square. He was on the opposite team. On my team was a hacker named ribbit. It was fairly normal until the end, where Anarion was able to prevent the results screen from appearing while being able to move on Block Plaza :psycho: . Since I couldn't move, I quit and joined another battle. I forgot the next hacker's name, but he used his Mii on a bike and would always choose GBA Battle Course 3. He could use all items and could moonjump. I and another person befriended him for ~12 races until he left. The best part: Anarion came to the other battle for one race without his results freeze thing  . I then went to bed.

So, what's your story?

Umm... what?

Anyways, here's of hoping the next Mario Kart for having the right character... and vehicle balance. I do wonder, since every Mario Kart had one game per Nintendo system would they break that chain? Since Super Mario Galaxy 2 broke the chain of one Mario 3D platforms per system and all.

Mario Kart is easily my favorite Nintendo franchise and I’ve been a fan since the first game on the SNES. I didn’t get it at launch but it was one of the first games I got for my SNES in 1995.

I discovered Super Mario Kart quite by accident. I’d read how great it was in the gaming magazines but never really felt compelled to hunt down a copy. Then while at a friends house I was shown the, at the time, visually stunning Rainbow Road track and I had to have a copy of the cartridge. Ironically the game was so popular that I literally couldn’t find it either new or used at any of my local retailers. Back then the Internet wasn’t what it is today so I had very few resources available to me to secure a copy. What I ended up doing was calling Nintendo’s 800 number and buying a refurbished copy directly from them. Even at that the game was still kinda pricey but I wasn’t complaining because I finally had it.

I played the single-player nonstop and marveled at the games technical and creative genius. It was unlike any other video game I’d played before and spoke to my inner child as well as the competitive gamer that lurked deep inside me. My friends and I even started including it in our Street Fighter II Turbo and Mortal Kombat II rotation with Mario Kart usually getting more play time than the other two combined.

By this time I had become a hardcore Nintendo addict and when news of the N64 was released I immediately started saving my money for a prepayment. Of course, the game that I was most looking forward to playing on the new machine was none other than Super Mario Kart R.

To be continued…

;) I'll be doing Mario Game Connections in a little while...

Speaking of Mario Kart: I LOVE MK64. The tracks, the items, the noises the non-speakers make.

…Eventually the Super Mario Kart R moniker gave way to simply Mario Kart 64 and slowly details about it started to emerge from Japan. By now the Internet was the premier source for video game news and information, and I remember staying up late one night to get the latest impressions of Mario Kart 64 from an American reporter that was getting an early hands-on preview of the game.

My heart sank to my stomach when that writer basically described the game as an utter failure and an affront to the legacy of Super Mario Kart. He further elaborated that the tracks were too long and much too wide to be challenging. Although this was bad news to be sure I didn’t let it diminish my enthusiasm completely and I continued looking on-line for information on MK64 like a pubescent boy looks for pornography. :chuckle:

Upon the games eventual launch it became clear why the tracks were made so wide and another chapter in the genius that is Mario Kart was again being written only this time 4 people could race together rather than just two.

Eggmanland, obviously.
64 is brokenly awesome.

I still play it sometimes. <3 Choco Mountain.

I don't know why, but I hated Double Dash. I think it's because I can't attack enemy drivers without a second player. Two people in one Kart isn't that bad, though. Petey and King Boo were broken as h*** and I hate them to this day.

Wii is really fun!! Don't have a particular reason for saying so, but I love it!

Yeah, the fact you could punch other karts to steal items was pretty awesome in Co-op mode for Double Dash.

If they can, I'm gonna get one. :D

Although I thought that the connections were wired to each other.

I don't think Mario Kart Double Dash can go online, though I haven't seen it go online. This game and Kirby Air Ride is the only games I know that a Broadband Adapters with, maybe Fantasy Star Online.

Odd, the device HAS online capability, but only four games (which sadly includes this and KAR) are forced to only use LAN.

However it seems there's away to use your computer as a router to get Double Dash and Kirby Air Ride online using an unofficial program, I wonder if it works . . . .

The program is called Warp Pipe and I have it loaded on my computer. You can also use XLink Kai although it’s kinda fussy to use. It’s probably best to stick with Mario Kart Wii for on-line and Double Dash!! for LAN.

I think I'd go to DD if it had online options. I really liked the team racing and the special items.

I kinda hated MKWii. I owned a copy of every single mario kart game up until the Wii one...I played it once and was turned off by how retarded the items were, and the chaos with 12 people racing at once. It was fine with 8...but now its sofa king impossible to drive for more than 6 seconds w/o getting hit by random shells, bombs, bananas n s*** and its ridiculous...it's the most luck-based of them all by faaaaarrrrrr

MK64 and MKDS are probably my favorites

Super Mario Kart got me hooked on video games, it started a hobby for me haha. I've also played DD, Wii, and the 64 one...my least favourite is the Wii one. Online is such a blast with a friend though.

Definitely, although it would be more epic if it temporarily (i.e. 5 seconds) made your car behave like an airplane, since the high jump from the original would be pretty broken due to it's ability to go over practically any wall. Even Nintendo acknowledged this since they self-banned Feathers from all of the SMK Mario Circuits.

…Mario Kart 64 was the third game I purchased for my Nintendo 64 and it was the first that allowed for 4 players. Almost immediately after the games release it became nearly impossible to find extra controllers for sale which is a testament to just how popular the game had become. Sure there were some whiners who complained that MK64 wasn’t as serious or competitive as the original but those cries only made it obvious as to who didn’t have any friends to play the game with.

Me and my friends played the game literally for 12 hours at a time taking breaks only to go to the bathroom, eat slices of pizza and down some Mountain Dew. Mario Kart 64 was addictive like crack but better still the game was just flat-out fun; so much fun that all of us adult males laughed like 8 year old school girls while playing it.

Nintendo had done it again; they had completely rewritten the book on how a kart racing game should be played and along the way created what is probably one of the greatest party games of all time. Could they do it again with their next console?
