Epona never died. Didnt Skull kid just banish her into Termina field, she got taken by Romani Ranch and then Skull kid put the boulder there so that Link could never get her back?

Btw, we dont know exactly how much time there is between Skull kid making Link a deku and when he goes outside of the clock tower. Remember that Termina's time flows faster than usual and the mask salesman does distract u for a while with his talk :p. So there was time for skull kid to do all that (about Epona).
I have always thought the same thing about Epona, but these people swear up and down that she's dead. Go figure.

The first time I played this game, I was so dumb. The Skull Kid's taking Epona really tore me up and I thought that he did kill her. When you first emerge into the Clock Tower at the base of the stairs, there is this old cog. I thought the Skull Kid turned Epona into stone, and the cog was her. Man, I was freaking out about that for a while. You can imagine my relief when I saw her at the ranch (which later turned into frustration because I saw her on the third day and couldn't get to her behind the fence).

Just finished Majora's Mask for the first time and really liked it, so think I'll start up some discussion (and see if anyone can clear up some questions I have )
  • Since Skull Kid is from Termina originally, does Skull Kid have a counterpart character who is native to Hyrule? Any ideas?
  • Is it supposed to look like Link is sleeping/passed out while riding his horse in the intro and ending? Like it really looks weird the way his head is positioned, it HAD to have been done on purpose for some reason
  • Anyone else have a problem with how all of the evil NPCs who fight you, after they're defeated, claim to have been "cursed" while doing all the bad things and thank you for saving them? Like, for example, the biggest problem I had was with Sharp. According to the game, he "sold his soul to the devil", he locked his brother's ghost underground, and then he tries to kill Link, but apparently, as he explains, this all was only because of a "curse." This only bothers me because forgiveness of friends is a major theme in Majora's Mask but you can't really forgive someone for doing something for which they weren't responsible due to a magical curse cast by an evil mask.

Also, about whether Epona died or not, imo the original intent was to have Epona be killed by Skull Kid at the very beginning of the game. And that's the impression I got by playing it blind (especially since I never saw that text about Romani Ranch finding a horse). Here's two quotes from Tatl that give very good evidence that Epona was killed imo. It seems like Nintendo wrote them in a way so that only older players would understand:

In addition, I think it is very fitting that the game begins with a death (Epona) ends with a wedding (Anju).
I think the Skull Kid in MM is the same one whom link gave a happy mask to in OOT.

Hence Skull Kid's interest in masks and why he says "your scent is familiar" in the end. Furthermore, Skull Kids were once Kokiri and there are no Kokiri in Termina, so how he could have come to be in Termina is a mystery. I believe that Skull Kid is from Hyrule, though what's more interesting is the fact that he was once a Kokiri. Who knows how long he has been a Skull Kid.

We are never told anything of his past, but there is implied history with other info from the games. I'll list some points of interest:
  • Kokiri who become lost in the Lost Woods turn into Skull Kids.
  • The Kokiri are temporary forms of a species that could be summarized simply as "Deku Spirits" or something of the like, since they have been known to change forms (see: Koroks and the theorized Monkeys).
  • Since Skull Kid, all of the Kokiri from OoT, Fado from WW, Makar and all the Koroks from WW, and theoretically all of the monkeys from TP all have Kokiri roots and are thus related to one another, not by blood, but through the Deku Trees. The main point being: Skull Kid and Makar are related, which is interesting, even though Makar exists in the Adult Timeline separated from the events of Majora's Mask.
  • Since Skull Kid seemingly lived on for centuries after MM well into the TP era, it can be implied that he's still alive in the Adult Timeline as well; or he was killed in the Great Flood. If he was still alive, both he and the Koroks would be the only survivors of the known Kokiri race, two branches of one original people, represented only by few in number. Though with his complete absence in WW and PH, it's implied that the Korok are the sole survivors of the Kokiri.
  • If Zelda Wii is based in the Adult Timeline, don't expect to see any form of Skull Kid. If it is based in the Child Timeline, then Skull Kid may return.

I always thought it was a different skull kid perhaps a different kokiri got left in the forest and somehow made his way to termina and became the skull kid? he says's you smell familiar so perhaps he is one of the kokiri you live with in OoT (child)? not sure how they got to termina though..

They got to Termina through the Lost Woods, which is what I was saying. I'm staying with it too. ;)

Then what about the flashback Tael has of playing in the Termina fields with Tatl and the Skull Kid before he stole Majora's Mask? That was before the 3-day cycle.

edit: Oooh, nevermind. The flashback shows that Skull Kid is lost and afraid and the fairies befriend him so I'm probably wrong.

The fact that ALL Skull Kid were normally(and only)lost Kokiri in the Lost Woods(Hyrule), I would think the fact remains Skull Kid had to be originally from Hyrule. Maybe there are a couple of contradictions here and there about that, but it's not uncommon in Zelda for this to happen. I really don't think the developers look into it as much as the fans do.

Oh, and Zelda Wii is apparently to have Majora's Mask sidequest styles, and time travel, if you guys haven't seen the newer 2chan rumors.

Although I usually don't like time limit kind of games MM came next to OOT and TP in my favorite games. I think it's the storyline and etc that made me want to play it.
The moon itself was quite scary since well it had a face lol (So the Skull Kid gave it a face? I don't remember how it got a face, but if you look through a telescope you can see that the face looks like a mask zooming close).

I love that mask where the chickens follow you or any others, the Deity Mask was pretty cool as well (I can't tell you how much I wrecked vengeance on that darn Fish boss, I remember dying all the time when I first started because of him. The Snowpoint Boss was my favorite though)

I just noticed something

The happy mask salesman at the end of the game says
"oh, so the evil has left the mask after all"

And subsequently say
"Where there is a meeting, there is a parting, but that parting need not last forever."

The latter is beleived to be directed toward navi/link, but could he be referring to the mask and its power?
The happy mask salesman seems disapointed when he says "oh, so the evil has left the mask after all" so he could possibly even try to revive the masks power.

I just thought of this, as i just played MM for the first time in a while, meh.

The moon itself was quite scary since well it had a face
And it looks so sad....

It's a different universe. Think of Wonderland where things reflect reality but everything is topsy turvy. Nearly everyone has a different name and personality from their OoT counterparts. They are all exact replicas from the game, I imagine, because the devs didn't feel like making many new ones.

I imagine you must have been very young to not realize. I was 10.

Bad logic is bad since every single character in MM has a Hyrule counterpart anyways there's no reason Skull Kid's wouldnt.

Happy Mask Salesman and Link traveled to Termina and they didn't have counterparts (unless you count the children on the moon as the HMS's counterparts). Why couldn't Skull Kid travel to Termina also? He lived in the Lost Woods, so it's entirely possible for him to stumble into the dimensional warp.

Charmander- It did kinda look sad upon scary, especially when it's really close on the 3rd the final minutes,.
pickle- lol yeah the final day makes it so sad though so it's like we have to save everyone who has lost hope. And it doesn't matter where you are, even in the ocean underneath you will still die.
Lunar- I have always see Termina as an Alternative Univerise, so as Luigi said they have different lives, different choices etc.

As for the Skull kid maybe the one from Lost Woods wasn't the one and the one we had was the AU one, or there isn't an AU or somewhere else. If you want to question that we could wonder where are the AU of Zelda, Link, Navi, Malon etc.

I don't think counter-parts allways look the same, as I'm pretty sure the gate guards in MM are the counterpart of Mido, the kokiri who doesn't let you see the deku tree unless you have sword + shield, perhaps counterparts either have the same personalit or role OR the same character model

When I said "and it looks so sad..." , I was making an adamwestslapdog reference, lol :)
Haha, I got it. I meant to comment on it too, but I got too lazy. Kind of like how adamwestslapdog is soooo lazy that he would stick his nose out the window just so that the wind would blow it for him.

I have some questions about Majora's Mask (sorry if this is the wrong place, I don't come here often D:)

1) It takes place after Zelda: OoT but before. When Gannon dies, and Zelda sends Link back, it happens XXX years after that?

2) Is this Wiiware download? If so I'm getting my connection to work, I've really wanted to place this for quite sometime...

3) <.< Dumb noob question, this is the game with the coolest version of Link ever, the white haired... bad..cool..amazing.. oh my god I wish I was him link, right?

Yep, that'd be what I'm talking about. He seems so cool, and I finally found it, you get him when all masks are found, so I'm totally getting this. I don't care if I have to get a n64 since mine is dead.

I just cheeked and you can download it to the Wii Virtual Console for 1000 Wii points (which is apparently $10)

The Wii Virtual Console version is the best. Failing that, get the N64 one but DON'T get the Gamecube Collector's Edition version.

also, so you aren't disappointed, you can only play as Fierce Deity Link during bosses. Some glitches allow you to roam around Termina as FDL but it's very limited as the game often crashes or leaves you stuck in certain spots.

also:

so what do you allthink the deal is with majoras mask being so alike to the fused shadow?
what?

10 Dollars is worth it, and I already knew. I did some research a few hours ago, but he looks so cool I could care less. If they gave FD Link Wii Graphics... or let you play as him in brawl... god v.v

true, I'm getting it on wiiware so I can't do that though. As for brawl, I'm too lazy to mod. Honestly I just wish they added him, >_>

Or keep Young Link from melee and let FD be his smashmove

Then again, Toon Link is my main >.>;

Playing it on emulator. Going to get bluetooth just so I can hook up my classic controller to my computer, to play the game because the shooting gallery cannot be done without an analog stick :(. Cant play it on wii64, due to mask of truth glitch :( The game over all is very epic. It feels dark, but I dislike one point of the game. The non mask usable items. The dungeons are too focused on bow&arrow. You have very little other than ocarina+masks+b&a, and a addiction to magic. It almost feels as if the mask it self is the dungeon item.
