At the moment Cal is in Perth receiving extensive training from Perth, so chances are when he goes back to QLD he will be playing aggro rushdown low tier :D When I see him today I'll give him the heads up.

Lucas main? Pro stuff :D If you need tips/help let me know. I don't play much anymore, but still know all the Lucas strats/techs.

I won't be able to brawl you as I don't have WiFi, however if you manage to get in contact with Cal he'll be able to tell you the differences between your Lucas and mine.

The most crucial part of Lucas maining is the recovery: you should be able to recover using PK Thunder without being able to see your character like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NjD_YS9a8_s#t=2m32s and this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ly_4f4p01hk#t=1m18s. You should be able to "Zap Jump" consistently like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ly_4f4p01hk#t=3m27s. You should also know how to "Magnet Pull" like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9RXv3Pq1Ww#t=2m13s. Getting these three things perfect will allow you to stay alive long enough to actually win matches :p All of this and more can be learned on the Lucas Thread Here: http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=297530

It's probably a lot to read in one sitting, but keep in mind a lot of the Advanced Techniques there have little practical use and are merely flashy/situational (namely Magnet Pull Double Jump Reversal :p). Keep in mind Lucas is quite a technical character, so it's going to take a bit of dedication to learn him well.

EDIT: Lucas Up Smash is a great move, but you need to learn when to use it. Even I get a bit trigger happy with it sometimes, but there are ways to make it safer. If you can predict an airdodge or spotdodge, or if your opponent is recovering above you, you can try for an Up Smash. Just make sure to only use it when you're at low percentages so that if it doesn't work you won't lose a life for it ;) It's definitely not his only powerful option though, and generally you can get the same result with a safer attack.

learning gimmicky techniques isnt going to help him too much.
you need to start by learning how the game breaks down, spacing, options, how to have 'safe' attacks, predicting opponents and patterns, that **** is all much more important.

Gimmicky techniques like recoverinq? It's kinda important to learn at least the ZapJump, Magnet Pull and PKThunder control. Mostly everything else in that AT thread as I said is flashy and situational, and aren't really necessary but they're still good to learn once you're used to the character. Taking those out though Lucas is still a very technical character with all of his autocancelling and tilt lock setups. I'm basically giving him Lucas tips here, not general game tips - it'd be better to receive them from someone who can play him IRL and figure out where he needs improvement.
