Lmao, Dair is not safe, ever. There's no good way to use dair that leaves you safe. The only time you're not punishable is if you edge cancel it, because the last hit of Dair when you land is extremely punishable(11 frames whoooooooo) Fair is much less punishable on shield, or on anything really.

And as for coming down with Dair, if your opponent is below you, whatever they have, Uair/Utilt/Usmash, will usually beat Dair. It's not particularly disjointed, and even if you dont get outright beaten, a clash is also a super negative for kirby since his multi hit Dair will only get 2% out of it while other characters will get a full hit. Dair is probably Kirby's second worst aerial, right in front of Nair.

Dair isn't more vulnerable than fair on shield ... they both have 10 frames of lag when l-cancelled. A retreating dair spaces itself well because the hitbox juts out a little bit in FRONT of Kirby.

Ok, i was gonna post something else, but let's go with this instead: What does Retreating Dair keep you safe from? What does retreating dair BEAT?
Well, there's this thing called a good player who pays attention to your patterns and attacks you based on where he thinks you'll be vulnerable. Since Kirby has a good wd back game, a lot of players will overextend their attacks, expecting you to retreat in some way, but instead of wding back you just SH dair and if they run into it (and you retreat the dair a bit) it'll catch them in the tumble animation we talked about.

See, there's two things that could happen... The opponent will notice something's wrong becaus eyou're jumping and not going backwards thus avoiding the dair, OR he'll space his attack and hit you anyway. Why would the opponent rush like that, seriously? Spacing and zoning are all that people need to do to slap Kirby around something good while he's in the air, dair won't make them stop zoning and mindlessly run into your move.

A lot of characters, like Marth and Sheik, have exploitable zoning, that you can find holes in with run up shield, running crouch, or even by approaching with dash dance.

Now, Fox and Falco are another story. If they decide not to approach you, there's not really any way you can win, unless you're just better than they are at the game, by a lot. :(

Falco is beatable with a much smaller skill deficit. Fox is nearly impossible without a huge difference in ability.

You can exploit a lot of character's zoning with kirby's wavedash. It's not bad at all really.
Wavedash > dtilt is one of my favorite strategies, it's like ghetto shines!

Yeah, it's as fast as f-tilt, reaches maybe a little bit farther, can duck under some attacks, um, has a bit more lag, but not significant. Good for edgeguarding too.

Ability to use computers naturally declines with age. I can barely type up posts as it is, I can only imagine that they've already lost that ability.

I'm still washed-up and "retired", but I was curious to see if anything new had come up with Kirby since I stopped being a regular. Doesn't look like much has changed lol. I can swear this same discussion was happening in '06. Yeah, back then we had to travel 15 miles uphill BOTH WAYS to get these posts up.... it really gave you character.... and.... zzzz

Yo i got so many new trixies, but like, it mostly involves F/Bthrow so like, there's no point in even bringing it up cus you cant actually make them work cus Kirby is bad.

Imma go watch The Kirby Cheat and beat up a lvl 9 computer walk 15 miles up hill in the SNOW to play smash brothers.

They were lvl 1s, btw. It's not my fault smashers can't understand combo videos in the traditional sense XD

Kirby has always been bad, it's just that some people aren't used to the trixies right away. So the real secret to playing Kirby is to only play him every other year, so that people forget again and you can make-believe that he's alright that way.

I'm trying to play Kirby legitimately, but Fox is demoralizing to fight.
If you can't win, be as annoying as possible.

D-tilts won't kill him, but they will keep him from approaching in any appreciable way. Do it long enough and he'll wish he was dead... right up until you get up-smashed randomly and die at 35%

The trick is to make them hate playing the matchup so much that they'll play a different character that is possible to beat.

Amidst the abounding light of heaven!
Ftilt him into the wall on Corneria till he's about 60%, then jump in place and Bair him on the rebound, Fsmash his recovery and Dair the followup recovery. It may require another move like Dtilt or Utilt to get started.

Assuming Corneria is legal where you play, that's enough to make any Fox hate Kirby, even if it does only work on them once.

Corneria is probably the absolute worst stage to take a fox.
WORST.

Uair is amazing, just takes some work to get down consistently. COMMIT TO YOUR UAIR AND IT WILL BENEFIT YOU. I mean really, it's like his only move that actually kills at a semi-reasonable %.

Dair never ever ever feels safe. Retreating fairs seem to poke shields well if I -ever- get the urge to be aggro with Kirby? (re: no.) but I find myself using dair very rarely.

I've been sick but missing RICH CHOCOLATEY KIRBY DISCUSSION. <:

My Kirby beats Sheiks that don't use needles. It's awesome. Then she uses needles and I stop wanting to play. 3:

I think I'm going to start using him in bracket for all sheik and peach matches.
...it's just less annoying.
