Just out of curiosity Glenn, what is the other community you're talking about?
The DDR/ITG community.

I've said this before in person. ITG was the new game, DDR was the old game. And I was one of the people that liked ITG for a couple weeks when it first came out, then said "DDR is better. Everyone should play DDR. ITG isn't that good."

DDR is bad. lawl. too ez

ITG is like PIU, it takes skill. >_>

DDR is too clumped together, but is the over rated game, kinda like brawl.

Are you ****ing serious? PIU's perfect window is ****ing huge compared to DDR and ITG. You can try to get greats and you'll still get perfects in PIU it's ****ing stupid. That's why there are no technical tourneys for PIU because there's too many ties, everyone's AAAing everything.

Anyway, I'll get off this because people want to ***** about melee or brawl in this thread.

i dont miss melee...i play it more than brawl nowadays...you cant miss it if it never left

i know whatcha mean tho mike. melee is great...alot of social ties started with melee for me too...good memories. And its a game that i can play with someone for endless amounts of time and not be tired of the game. and i dont forsee people just ditchin melee anyways. brawl is ok. but there are too many people who like melee for it to die out...so cheer up homie. we gotta fox ditto MM still anyways....ahem MELEE....fox ditto. lol

Mangos is more of a "let's do smoething about melee"

But you can't compare DDR/ITG community. ITG IS better. Crisp and easy to read arrows (how could you NOT WANT that. unless you like weird looking arrows that do rainbow sh*t on you) and plenty of mods that make it easier to read or give new challenges. If you don't like the songs on ITG, just put DDR songs and stepcharts onto your flashdrive and play custom songs on the machine. What more could you ask for? (ZOMFG I CAN SEE HOW MANY CALORIES I BURNED TODAY.)

Well... unless you like the overflashy animation and the dumb commentator voice interrupting a good song by saying, "You are tOO GOOD".

f*** that voice.

It's like Brawl had an option saying "MELEE PHYSICS MODE."
Man, if it had that I would buy a Wii just to get Brawl.

I would've been a lot happier with Melee 2.0

I seriously dont know how i even got to this thread, it was just open on my laptop, so i read the first post and dayum, i know exactly how you feel. When people ask me what i think about brawl, i dont know what to say. I dont mind it as a game. I have fun when playing it with friends, but i HATE its existance. I'm so bitter towards brawl because of what it did to the melee community.

In spring 2007, there was a decent sized tournament every weekend in different cities in texas. Every weekend for like 3 months, we'd drive to whatever tournament, Adrian (caveman) would win, then we'd plan the next tourney we'd travel to. spring 2008 sucked balls. ZERO melee tournaments in Texas.

mlg dallas was my first large tournament and the tournament that really hooked me into smash, playing competatively, and being a part of this wonderful community. So i wasnt around as long as a lot of you smash "veterans", but still. I miss melee sooooooo much. I just got back from that Georgia melee tournament and had a blast and that tournament gave me hope. it made me realize that melee is NOT dead, that a lot of people feel exactly like i do. it was encouraging. i'm ranting now. but anyways, good thread, long live melee, and **** everyone who tells me i should "just move on to brawl because melee is dead". melee is NOT dead, and i'm not just playing it because of its popularity anyways. i love the game and i dont care if "everyone else is doing it" I'm not gonna just "move on" to brawl. ugh, feels good to get that **** out.

Well hell I'll just say it, The only reason so many of you think "Melee will never come back because no one will play it since brawl's out" are only saying that **** because everyone else think you and your crew are going to say that? Cant we just learn from mikes example here and just admit that we want melee back, Brawl drew in so many new players that it can be a community all on its own, it doesnt need anyone from the melee scene, and believe it or not, theres been people getting into smash for the first time with brawl and then going to melee.

Honestly guys, we love melee. lets not use excuses like "Im not getting stuck in nostalgia about melee" or "Everybody else is doing it." cause I know not far underneath it all lies the fact that we all love melee and would rather be competing in that.

Lets just let the brawl community grow with the new members it drew in. Bottom line is, just please, play the game you REALLY like the most. Dont settle for something you like second best.

no one has the balls to do that lmao because all their friends are playing brawl etc. plus incentive to win (or perception of incentive to win) means a lot.

hey mike
to tell the truth, i've barely touched brawl and i just joined this website tonight to discuss things about melee. i've been playing SSB 64 sporadically at friends' houses and at band practices for the last three or four years and i actually just graduated to melee in november or so. i know that i'm about 6 years too late in saying this, but it is suuch an insane game. the battles are almost always brutally intense, the gameplay is beautiful, and nearly every character has loads of potential to be played terrifically. although i may be too attached to and flattered by melee, brawl has seemed less exciting and rapid-fire- my friends and i are much less frequently perching on the edges of our seats.
anyway, i really appreciate your posting.
am i too late in responding to ask who everyone's melee main is? i feel like i have come closest to mastering yoshi and jigglypuff- they are definately the characters i play with most. yoshi is my all-time favorite, though.
