Can't wait to see how the Melee part of Hobo16 turns out... Any current brawlers that are going to give it a shot?

and I dunno why the sbr gets so much crap...
I know that I'll wanna try the melee thing out. I main a low tier in that game though D: Oh well :p

idk why the SBR gets so much hate either. I personally like what the SBR does...

Edit: Oh yeah, I guess I could start learning to use Samus in Melee... since I already know how to SWD

any form of planking is extremly gay. gayer than any falco laser camping or grenade camping snake. true story. for the sake of brawl don't plank!:embarrass

allan please don't just ban MKs. if a pit for example gets a lead, some characters can't do **** if he decides to plank. same goes for other characters who can plank too. if MK can't do it, then no one can imo. i think you just want to plank with samus and get away with it ya slydog o_o
i can name 10 charcters that can stop samus plainking....nice try though

I wont argue this with anybody, its the way it is and i wont change my mind. Assuming i do do this LG rule. but i havnt decided yet.

krd: super wave dash in melee is 100% useless. dont bother

RT: this u need to watch this http://gonintendo.com/?p=75936

Do any of you even have experience against planking or are you just using arbitrary arguements to justify your beliefs?

Planking has never been an issue in Texas, or most of the US actually. When people point out something that might make the game seem less fun or fair though, people tend to jump on the bandwagon quick.

People are discussing this like they are experts on the matter and deal with planking at every tournament haha.

Not saying don't voice your opinion, just think about how much it's really worth.

Also, thinking others are stupid or wrong because their opinion is different then yours is childish.

Just sayin'.

Regardless, the issue is the same as ever. Banning something prematurely will just ruin your experience against it and gimp you as a region/player. Has planking really done anything to the metagame? Is anyone winning that wasn't before? Plank has been running away since before Brawl even came out.

So what you're trying to say is....you won't date me? Because after reading that, I look at your description thing under your name, and that was what I paid attention to the most lol

.....*runs off and cries because Hylian won't date him, and something about planking*

wether we have had exp with it or not doesnt matter. wether its here in tx it doesnt matter. I make my tournaments as fair as possible for the noobs while still allowing the pros to win(like they normally would). NONE of my rules hurt us as players. Not one time have my 2 limites on CG hurt a player. If they did...well then that person needs to go play melee cause 98% of the people that go to my events LIKE the rules or else they wouldnt go/make thier own event.

ive limited IC/DDD INFINITE chain grabs....INFINITE means it never ends untill ddd/ic want them too. IC can still cause MASSIVE amounts of damage through NORMAL CG and DDD still has a 75-25(or more) advantage on those 6 characters he can infinite.

I MIGHT(key word) limit metaknights ledge grabs because i feel that people WILL gravitate to this tactic in the long run(after all, more and more people are picking up metaknight.....college station). SBR refuses to takes out metaknight so now we have to make stupid stuff up like the LG rules to help keep this game a little less gay. Oh and if you didnt read it before, it DOES NOT effect metaknights match ups in any way it just makes him a little less gay.

Please dont come back and argue this cause the things ive said are fact. facts are facts. they dont change.

PS: you dont need to get shot to know it hurts(its common sense). This is what im doing. Im stopping somethig BEFORE it gets bad.

Allan, did you read my post? I'm not even arguing with you.

And please don't use analogies like that. I could say the military isn't going to send an inexperienced person to war as a general...People can go through them all day lol.

Without evidence, something making the game unfair is purly subjective. Objectiveness seems to be a lost cause these days :/.

I don't think objectivity is a lost cause. The smash community has always been not so hot at debating or deciding on rulesets without massive amounts of unrest in the community. Brawl just happens to have more issues that seemingly need to be adressed. Well, that and when Melee was going through growing pains the community was much smaller than it is now.

Still, despite how much I disagree with Allan I do agree with one thing he says. They are his tournaments and thus he can impose any ruleset he wishes to.

and i wasnt arguing with you. it was more of a "clearing up what i mean" kind of thing. relax, me not fighting

they did elect obama........

u have see what it does in persona nd ive seen youtube vids. theres evidence right there. and IMO, you dont need to wait for something to WIN tournaments before you decide to ban it. Broken/"gay" things screw people out of doing well/winning tournies....but no one looks at that side. if they did, things would have improve LONG ago.

I don't think objectivity is a lost cause. The smash community has always been not so hot at debating or deciding on rulesets without massive amounts of unrest in the community.
i agree. and it cause we are governed by the SBR(and yes we are or else people wouldnt even SLIGHTLY use yalls rulesets) and they do not act on the IMPORTANT things that effect the whole community.......infinites/metaknight

Still, despite how much I disagree with Allan I do agree with one thing he says. They are his tournaments and thus he can impose any ruleset he wishes to.
but see, i HATE throwing that around: "its my events, i do what i want". I would rather people say " i disagree but it doesnt effect me so whatever" or "oh man i LOVE that idea" or " your poop" or just not say anything at all.

but seriously, i really hate saying "its my event, i do what i want" because i feel like you people dont get any say so but then again if i do what most of the general public wants, the scene would be absolutely horrible.

I'm much more conservative about banning things (that is, I would rather have things unbanned than banned) than most of Houston and so many people would complain about my ruleset I see as "the best."

Most of your specific rules that are exclusive to HOBO events don't directly effect me. Peach has no real infinites except maybe a weird one on Wario that doesn't even matter, the only lock I have is a bair lock that is crazy hard to do, and I would be stupid as hell to plank. Oh yeah, don't use Meta either.

But the thing is I might disagree with your rulesets even if it does benefit me because I think that liberal amounts of banning to fix issues in Brawl is akin to just throwing money at the economy and hoping it magically gets better. While not that great of a metaphor, my point is sometimes a ban is just avoiding a perfectly fixable issue that falls down to the players, not the game.

while i agree with what you said about the economy, i choose a more liberal set of rules because stupid crap is allowed due to the SBR. If broke things were banned and meta was banned i would open the doors to about 7 or 8 more levels/lift limits

PS: the vid is even more reason to use a ledge grab rule. please watch ALL of it

SCOTU, while being in favor of getting rid of planking, even said, "It did not help me win against players better than me."

Get the % lead and Meta has to come to you or he loses.

The issue here isn't planking, but its what is NEVER banned at tournaments except in extreme cases, despite it being clearly banned. Stalling. That's what planking is, isn't it? There's no point in having an arbitrary rule like 70 grabs to the edge when the rule can be gotten around. An MK can just wait until the last part of the match and start to get on the edge.

At the same token you can't disallow people to regrab the edge, as sometimes they really are pressured and need a few second before getting on.

If you really think this can't be gotten around consistently to the point where a rule needs to be made, I would suggest considering an alternative to the 70 rule. Though what exactly would cover this? Any rule can be abused or twisted. Really I can't think of any foolproof rule to this specific problem right now.

Still, how many matches has planking won? BOTH players were planking there and it didn't even work that well for them. It took SCOTU 3 minutes of doing almost entirely nothing but planking to reach 70 grabs, and he wasn't even using his jumps or shuttle to extend the time even further. What happens if both players go over 70? Even if you DQ both someone could get a ******** bye late into the bracket. Are you going to use the rule over if it goes over time? (That's the rule being currently discussed. If you go over 70 grabs AND the time runs out) If it doesn't the Meta still got three kills.

Just some food for thought.

but you DO do that in the end.

Planking = non-issue

Stalling.... it's a part of the game, and planking is the simplest thing I've ever see in any fighting game whatsoever.

Ya know they had the same thing in Melee but just harder to do consistently (Shiek Up+B stall, Gannon infinite stall, Zelda infinite stall). Well it was easier to counter but still about the same.

Skill involved or not, it's the same thing, and even though people can master it in Melee, it didn't become a rampant problem, so I really can't see why it will become a huge deal in Brawl. Besides it's built into the game and not even a real exploit IMO of anything.

The 70 limit rule, like the post above me said, won't mean anything if I just wait until the end of the match to stall. Or do 69 regrabs.

Stalling happens, and most attempts to ban it end up being arbitrary. When it's easily identifiable (MK cape glitch, peach bomber) that's easy to ban, and understandably so, being that it really doesn't have a counter and can force you to lose a stock.

You need to stop getting upset over every single issue that comes up in the Brawl metagame. So far there really hasn't anything major in my eyes save maybe DDD's infinite but I haven't even bothered to ban that, and no one cried to about it.

Don't let personal philosophy govern your ruleset. I use the best players around to make a good ruleset, and in the end I probably get the fewest complaints about my rules of any TO in Texas.

The argument as of right now is that while Melee had clear solutions to the issue, Brawl does not. Whether or not I agree with that is still up in the air. Just sayin'.

But yeah, watching Plank up + B stall with Shiek against Kage was pretty funny. Kage still *****.

Just some food for thought.

Heres the facts:

1. both metaknights were stalling and at one point there was a quick instance of plainking(falling uair to UP+B).

2. they ran the timer on a METAKNIGHT DITTO(even at tip top level this does not happen)

3. this sort of thing(stalling/plainking) isnt new but its becoming more and more common. Just cause we dont have a problem NOW doesnt me wont wont have the problem EVER.

4. there is a difference between what the video showed and some one simply being pressured into grabing the ledge and droping off to re-grab. the video was outright, "i want a % lead and im gonna stall cause i know he cant get me"

5. The limit of 70 grabs is WAY to high for 7-8 minutes. If i do it, i will do 50-55.

6. Yes a meta could wait for have the time limit to go down by half(or the last part of a match) then begin using up his 50-55 LGs.....but heres the key, it teaches the foe to kill early or force the meta on the ledge more often. That is fair and legal.

7. By allowing plainking or stalling you are giving ANOTHER advantage to a character that already has the best EVERYTHING in the game.

Planking IS much harder to counter, I do agree with you. But it's ingrained into the game engine so the only difficult thing is preventing it through a rule.

However, since it isn't really a problem, then there isn't a reason to ban it. Too many people are trying to put out a fire that doesn't exist.

What you don't seem to get is that you don't need this rule here in Texas... no one in Texas really planks... the person to come closest is kown... and once in a while bwett... and their characters aren't even super god tier, nor does this always guarantee their win.

Planking is silly. If you do it, you're silly.

Don't be silly, kids. :)

EDIT: Since take got 5th at Mizumi, I propose we flood the next tournament with lots of Metas. What better way to show our love then to give him his most hated character. <3 take.
