So far all the reviews have been positive...and they all mention the game is fairly challenging...some even complaining that the game is too hard, which makes me laugh...because it's a NINTENDO game. Bottomless pits and lava everywhere.

As far as the tourney, he can have one if he wants...just decline to enter.

I'm definitely getting this. The donkey kong series is still my favorite platformer series around.
