It's still a double elimination bracket yes?

So winner's finals, loser's finals, and then grand finals alone will take 1-1.5 hours. So you're saying that the entire bracket leading up to the finals can be accomplished in 1.5-2 hours? Don't think I buy that, unless again, the turnout sucks.

I dont think you understand RIT tournies goggles, the last smash(melee) tournament held by EGS had about 75 sum people. Which is why it always made me upset they only gave me a gift card or a wii or a ds instead of the cash. EGS has a very grim view on smash mostly because every tournament they have ran has gone over the time they wanted it to and been much more work than they have realized.

especially since they dropped us (Smash Club) as an affiliate of EGS.
They didn't drop us, we're still technically a part of them. However, I'd like to become an eboard member for EGS next year. If that happens we'll be able to reserve our own rooms and stuff (although i'm kind of enjoying the fireside lounge).

I only post every so often so i like to state my inputs.

This tournament is going to be mad fun, New players, a whole new venue (For me anyways), and of course the great game of smash.

However i dont understand why a lot of people are complaining. From what im reading its in regaurds to the money issue. The way i see it this is a really cheap tournament. From what i see/been told they aren't charging a venue. And the entree fee is only 5 Per event. So for some of you it will cost 10 and other it will cost 5. So Esg is taking 20% of the pot. This really only affect people with a chance for money. On the other hand it makes it better for people who dont place. Unlike SOY2 Where they took a 10$ Venue and then a 10% house cut. Compared to that this really isnt bad at all.

However i will say the payment method is a lil troublesome. Also the main point behind any social gathering related to smash its to spend time with people you share common interest with and expand your knowledge and skill of the game while keeping to the competitive nature that is a tournament.

As far as altarian not driving every where for once, sounds like a good idea to me. Seeing how he does it every tournament with out complaining im sure it'd be nice for him to not have to worry about making stops or what time he has to be home or others. And for him to be able to freely leave and go when its fitting for himself.

On the other hand. I have a full Rock band 2 Setup if someone is willing to bring a ps3 im sure we could bring that along.

The only thing that truely bothers me about this tournament is no doubles. Just because i personally like doubles.

And as always there will be a fest at my place the night before. Come and get practice!

It sucks, it's loud and ping pong balls randomly fly at you whilie you play.
He's suggesting you rent it out, meaning you don't have everyone playing pool and what not on the other side, and you can shut people out. It can be done.

In addition, 6PM is just not the case, to my knowledge. EGS made the flyers, and they explicitly say noon to "Whenever."

sounds like the place where we had the U of R tournament way back when Xiivi was still around.

for those of you that dont understand:

sounds legit.
Actually, that place was hella small. Barely larger than Jesse's living room. If you think you can successfully hold a tournament with a larger attendance than we were experiencing back then... well, you should probably be medicated.

I've been to ritchie's, it's not big but it is deeefinitely larger than Jesse's living room; I swear it on my ROR swine flu.

I meant that for friendlies afterwards. I really don't find most of RITchies bothersome, ping pong balls aren't to bothersome, at the most you pause the game for like 3 seconds.

Oh and they have Rock Band 2 there.

It was really really poorly setup too though.

And size...? How many people do we expect to stay for friendlies afterwards?!

I can post snapshots of RITchies if everyone wants to see what is like.

That's good, because people always seem to underestimate the time it takes to run a tournament. The first rounds feel like they breeze by because you can take advantage of lots of setups, but the last couple rounds only require a couple setups, but are even longer matches, and in the case of all the finals, you have to wait for one to finish before you can play the next. Glad to see they're being flexible about the run time of the event, cause it's pretty hard to predict without knowing your exact turnout.

So will EGS just kick everyone out as soon as the tournaments are finished?

I can't imagine them sticking around for friendlies.

@pika, thats why I say that we should just be happy were getting more than we used to.

@cura, I love doubles too, but its gonna be super fun regardless and i agree with just about everything you said.

@pyro, I dont mind either of those two things...

@SHETH, lol, isnt "explicitly whenever" kind of self contradictory?

We did rent it out last year. People still showed up and we still had to dodge ping pong balls while we were playing.

ok so Ian's decided to pay my brawl entry fee if I wear this mask (below, from a locally produced movie I'm in) in every match posing as some sort of superhero/villain and shout out a choicey catchphrase after each win/loss. I'm pretty sold on the idea myself XD
