I keep seeing this and it gets on my nerves. Stop using it's. It's is a contraction, the combination of it and is. It's should not be used to show possession. Its should.

I don't know if this is some sort of series, but it ought to be. In fact, I like the idea a lot.

lol It doesn't bother me that much, but it's kinda sad that most people don't know correct grammar.
That, or, you know, not enough people care to bother with proper grammar.

I know I don't.
Trust me, I tried to wrongfully put its in here somewhere on purpose, but I couldn't find a spot.

I also dislike people who misuse "your" and "you're".

It grinds my gears, especially when said user is giving an English lesson on behalf of another member's grammar mistake.

"LOLOLOLOLOL, SPELL THIS RIGHT, YOUR DUMB LOLOLOLOL".

It annoys me when people use "me" as a subject pronoun.
Example: "I helped her with her homework" becomes "My friends and I helped her with my homework". But people too often say "Me and my friends helped her with her homework". Would you say "Me helped her with my homework"? People understand this logic but nonetheless keep putting in "me" when the subject contains multiple parts.

I use "its" so rarely, but "it's" so often, that it's more happening out of habit if I do it.

However, the most common thing I see is "your" instead of "you're".

Strange, I don't remember anyone ever using this one around me.

Something ironic about this topic: You misspelled 'misusing' in your title. :3

If I can be honest, I really do not get how people can make this mistake. I only saw people using Its instead of It's or vice versa at the age of 16, and never saw it in written form even at primary school.

Yes, it's an easy pitfall for people unfamiliar with English, but...seriously.

Hell, I can be a pretty big grammar Nazi sometimes (not on AIM though) and I'll mess up "you're" and "your" occasionally, and I piss myself off whenever I do. "It's" and "its" I rarely mess up.

But yeah Khold, I know what you mean.

I think you guys also need to remember that this is not a place to spam one liners and smileys.

Just a thought, this is not the Disco Room or a Social Thread.

I support this blog and demand an ongoing series on this topic.
But then this would turn into an English Class and who wants to learn Grammer?

But I find it weird how people correct me whenever I spell "color" with a "u".
Colour, flavour, favourite . . .

It's still technically correct even if you're not in the UK.
The random "u" makes it look better for some reason :/

I dunno, but I can think of someone who should probably learn spelling...

I concur; despite living in the USA, I like British spellings better.

In first grade I got a point off on a spelling test for spelling it "grey". To this day I still think that "grey" is a better spelling. It was a bad idea for Americans to diverge from the British spellings on "grey" and many others, and they should feel bad.

dude, its an internet forum site. theres going to be a whole lot of spelling/grammer mistakes.
Yeah, thanks, this stupid attitude is exactly WHY there are so many spelling/grammar mistakes on the internet.

In response to the OP: Yes, I've been annoyed by this for so freaking long. The most annoying part is that it's not even like people are so lazy that they just don't use apostrophes, because more often than not, I find "it's" used in the wrong place.

If you can't be bothered to learn/use proper grammar in everyday life, I encourage you to continue that habit, and screw up on major assignments in school/job applications/something related to your job and have fun seeing where that attitude of "Ohlol nobody cares" gets you.

I find it sad that people just don't care about grammar, etc. I myself am pretty loose on my typing style, but at least I can convey myself in a manner that I believe is appropriate for an online forum. Of course, it depends on the milieu...

As long as I can read a post and not have to correct it a ton in my mind, it's cool with me.

I usually use the "normal" way of spelling those words, and I use the "u" for formal essays and such in school. It just feels natural I guess.

This post wins in my mind. I agree with everything it said.

That being said, I am completely inconsistent with my spelling of words such as color/colour.

I will type color twice in a sentence, but the next time I use the word colour it's spelled differently. :x

I seriously didn't even know there was an it's or its. I thought it was always spelt like it's. I went through english, and I never once learned the difference between the two (or the other one even 'existed.') Or I've forgotten, but teacher's never corrected them.

In defense of average-grammar people, "it's/its" is a WAY easier mistake to make than other ones, like "you're/your."

Apostrophe S usually shows possession (with nouns), so it makes sense to see the apostrophe S on "it's" and think it's a possessive word. But "it" is a pronoun :(

The other pronouns don't have esses and just use a completely different spelling (like their), which is easier to keep straight.

I forgive the "it's/its" misusers. :)
It's an understandable mistake.
