Grammar Nazi 101: Stop Misusing 'It's'

I don't know if this is some sort of series, but it ought to be. In fact, I like the idea a lot.

Apostrophe S usually shows possession (with nouns), so it makes sense to see the apostrophe S on "it's" and think it's a possessive word.

This is why it annoys me far more when people pluralize words with apostrophes. Don't get me wrong, incorrect it's/its usage annoys me too, but using apostrophes for pluralization just goes completely against what people have learned since like 1st grade. Not to mention you're going out of your way to type (or write) an extra punctuation mark, which runs completely counter to the laziness argument for not using an apostrophe in "it's" or "you're."

Maybe you're actually asking the question though. Hell if I know. (Edit: looks like you are, not meaning to go off on you bro.)

I seriously disapprove of the douchery that some grammar nazis come with though. I can understand y'alls cause, but some people take it overboard.

Not that I recall Straked, they never did. I never seen them marked on other's writing as well, if memory recalls correctly. Maybe Canadian writing uses it's and its the same way?

Correcting someone for the sake of looking and feeling superior is a very lame and douchey thing to do.

However, correcting someone's mistakes in a polite and helpful manner is a great favour. I mean, we all make mistakes, and we'll keep making them unless someone steps in. Responsibility lies with both parties. That is, the correcter shouldn't be arrogant, and elitist about it and the individual being corrected shouldn't be offended.

Having said that, being corrected is probably the one thing I absolutely cannot stand, which is why I keep my mouth shut unless I'm sure I know what I'm talking about, and what I'm about to state is correct.
