If I hosted another Smashfest this weekend, would anyone be interested in coming over? I've got plans next Saturday, so that's off (season two premier).

That MU isn't that bad. The old MU chart had it only as 55:45 in D3's favor which is hardly unwinnable. I would argue that the new MU chart will be the same or 50:50. Even if D3 can perfectly chaingrab you (extremely difficult on stages like Yoshi's and Lylat, 2 neutrals) then it's still pretty hard to gimp Marth. My scrub Marth does pretty decent against 4GOD already and I'm really pretty bad at Marth. With time and experience I think I can do that MU just fine. It doesn't anger me at least like some of the sillier MUs against him.

Marth only loses really to MK/Diddy/D3 and Diddy might be arguable not sure. With MK gone and Wario for Diddy, I think Marth is a solid pick-up. He'll take more time and love than MK to be good with but hey, everyone takes more time/love than MK to be good with. Might as well pick a char that is similar to MK and has even/good MUs with almost every character. Plus, I really like him and started playing him a couple weeks ago already so we'll see

I'm just your problem~
With Marth, your "not-unwinnable" MUs are just a matter of you not ****ing up. The only reason Marth is good in general is when it's under the assumption that the player's precision and decision making is on point the entire time. That's why it often looks like a rough MU for Marth- If you pick the wrong move in the wrong situation, you're taking damage you can't afford whereas D3 has a little more room to **** up in the same regard.

In general, yes, but I was trying to imply that it's moreso the case with Marth. Most characters seem to be able get away with doing their respective typical things in a general scenario (I guess think of Olimar spamming pivot grabs) as opposed to Marth whose moves mostly have to have a specific purpose/placing/timing to be any kind of effective. Without precision, Marth is more likely to be punished than other characters would be in his situation. It's hard for me to fully explain the way I see it in words.

I thought that was the case in every game involving competition between two people.

The fact is the punishment for mistakes in this game are often more subtle unless you are substantially better at keeping and maintaining momentum. D3 just needs to get a grab and assuming the player can CG Marth appropriately, the momentum sways immensely given the context of the game played.

D3 can afford many more mistakes because he has guaranteed damage and undeniably good positioning (especially since Marth is a very weak character on the other end of the edge) from a simple chaingrab and can KO Marth easier than the other way around. Marth often has trouble landing definitive kills and has to work harder to get D3 to the KO threshold to begin with.

Logistically the match-up is even (imo), but the Marth player has to know the match-up to a higher degree than the D3 player does. Stage layout also has a notable effect on the match-up because of how these two characters use their assets. Practically speaking, I'd given a slight edge to D3. The ratio isn't important though. Whoever sets the pace of the match will win.

To people coming over today, setups and TVs are encouraged. I have two TVs, and one setup. I'll have the place ready by 1:00 PM.
